2025-26 Grand Prix Final Rhythm Dance

Wow did not expect this outcome. Sad for Piper and Paul. Hopefully being in the final group will help their scores in the FD cause they should be not so close to F/G! Interesting what Mark said about F/G bringing new audiences to ice dance with their social media… Chock and Bates have improved a lot but I’m not sure I would have them in front of the FB/C - they still seemed slow to me in parts! Maybe it’s just the camera and it’s different in person 🤔

ISU is desperate for a heterosexual couple to win, but Chock/Bates did perform best today.

I really feel for Piper and Paul. 5 pts behind the leaders. OUCH. The judges are clearly sending them a message. In no universe should they be this far behind but that's ISU judging for you.

They should be that far behind. Paul skates to the music like it's a ballroom dance, totally wrong, and the choreo isn't very good to begin with.

Too many similar programs this year, mostly of the "Look how sexy we are” with lots of posing.

piper and Paul were lowballed IMO, I don't even like their program but they are just more skilled than the Brits.

Anyone knows what was the "illegal element/movement" for which Zingas/Kolesnik got a deduction in the protocol?

I think the Canadian judge secretly hoped that FBC were the threat to G/P silver.

After it became obvious it's not the case, they will probably support FBC because at the Olympics G/P will be fighting against C/B.

Also, let's not forget it's only the third competition for FBC. Would be a weird message if they overcame C/B already in the rythm dance. I am confident that with this dynamic they are taking the olympic gold.
If will be a different judge at the Olympics. There is more than one Canadian judge.

We’re going to get two back to back “I’m too sexy”s. I don’t get the appeal of this song this year.
Thing is, it needs to be yobboish and somewhat sleazy, the song itself is yobboish and somewhat sleazy. It's meant to be. No ID team with half a brain cell is going to offer the judges yobboish and sleazy which is why at the start of season I really didn't think anyone would pick it, and I still think they shouldn't have.

Mark: "Everybody wants to see the success of the sport"

Not the ISU! The things they are doing are turning people off!

If you are them, what do you do between now and the Olympics to up your scores? Is there anything you can do at this point?
This was always the likely outcome, given the politics we've seen in the last few years. Even when they were clearly better Piper and Paul couldn't catch a break. But it was even more likely after Piper spoke out over Finlandia. The powers that be hate criticism — any criticism.

That said, I don't really like any of these rhythm dances this year, so really don't plan to watch this segment. The only two I actually, genuinely like are Lim/Quan's Men in Black and Fabri/Ayer, who are being completely dumped by the judges, in spite of actually having improved programs, IMO. Some are more tolerable than others, and I include Piper and Paul's in that. Loathe both Chock/Bates and FBC's offerings.

To me, it's like one can think of Piper and Paul as doing a traditional ID in the style of [fill in the blank with the RD of the season]. Whereas other teams seem to approach the RD with the mindset of "How do we perform this style of dance on ice?" I still really enjoy what Piper and Paul put out there -- but I do see your point.

Piper and Paul skated well. This program has so much potential. I wish they could work with some drag queens before the Olympics. There are moments when they should be fierce and they're playing it comedic. They need to own the ice.
I agree this was by far the best performance of this program for them this season. I love hearing Mark searching for words to describe what I felt about them skating this Rhythm dance though - that they are just too stiff. Mark said much more diplomatically that some have called them to formal and old school for this, probably because they skated when they were still compulsory dances, so they are great when it comes to the traditional patterns and whatnot but maybe not as language and loose when it comes to what is needed for this type of music and style.

Again, it’s really confusing that this quad we’ve seen C/B get as high as 93 in the RD and now this same team is habitually getting 84 in the RD this Olympic season. Shouldn’t they have been judged with this much scrutiny all this quad? Why is this just now happening in the Olympic season?
Different season, different dance, different requirements.

100% I've said that since the first time I saw this dance. Besides the fact that the choreography is just not that inspiring, the most distressing part about this is Paul's posture. I agree 100% that he States far too stiff for this and exactly as you said, like he's dancing a foxtrot or something. His posture is perfect, but it looks like he has a 2x4 down the back of his costume. It is just not convincing and he looks incredibly uncomfortable. Especially when you see it in slow motion, he looks so incredibly uncomfortable and forced. Which is sad, because I have wanted them to win the gold medal for some time now, but other than the year when Piper had her surgery, the Rhythm dance has always let them down, and I think the same is the case this year.

Obviously I am not in the arena - but this Spice Girls dance just doesn't seem to move across the ice.
Watch the ice coverage - not as good as Piper and Paul. But they sold the hell out of this, and unlike Piper and paul, they're much more balanced in terms of the expression component of the dance.

and this is the problem, they are displaying the skills and striking poses, but not dancing...
I'm genuinely interested in knowing what you mean by this. I am no ice dance expert, so I'm always interested in learning more. What aspects do you mean? Do you just mean the fact that they're doing a lot of side by side skating, not much in hold, not a lot of turning and moving around each other?

As usual, I don’t understand why C/B are scored 5 points higher than G/P. I do think being in the first warmup group deflated G/P’s chances of scoring higher than they did though. This definitely was a pro IAM panel too, which is the case with every panel.
Piper and Paul do not skate right at all for this dance. Paul skates way too much like a ballroom dancer, and while their speed and Ice coverage is superior, Piper looks like she's skating with a mannequin for most of it. So while they are slower with a much smaller patterns and less ice coverage, Madison and Evan outperform them in lots of other ways. That said, it's pretty crazy that they are beating them in the technical category, because Paul and Piper have always been solid technicians. So I do agree that it is a little confusing...

I have loved many of Piper and Paul's programs, but this one is just not it! I'm not saying the others have amazing programs that I love either, but the way they skate - their basic technique and posture - while fundamentally solid and impressive when it comes to blades on the ice, just does not fit the loose, more casual feel that this type of music demands. Paul is skating this like it's a foxtrot or some sort of compulsory dance from 1995.
