Well that’s certainly different. I didn’t know he liked McDonald’s. He likes Starbucks right? I wonder what other restaurants he’ll do a commercial for in the future.

Yeah, Starbucks is one of his usual places to get coffee (as well as Marin's). I think this McDonald's collaboration opportunity came from his gaming work, actually, because McD has an active collaboration with the game Street Fighter 6, the one Shoma has been playing and competing. McD also sponsored the team competition “Shishiro Cup” Shoma was apart of, and played quite well too for his position (streamer division, not as pro gamer).
I'm actually a bit surprised.... because I didn't really expect Shoma to be offered these kinds of opportunities after retirement, this feels more like something he should have done after 2018 or 2022 Olympics. But I think being able to show his wit on social media and also officially enter pro gaming spaces are giving him exposure to opportunities that may not be there during his competitive years.
McDonald's Japan actually teased the collaboration yesterday by tweeting this:
It's a callback to Shoma's big viral tweet of his Olympic medal back in July and still stands at 53 million views:
Also the McCafe video showed Shoma's high-speed spin (for him to transform to.... a glass of small sized coffee lmaooo) and he recently had another viral tweet where he did a high-speed spin. This may be a coincidence, or the advertising agency is purposefully highlighting skating stuff that goes well with the online audience.

unfortunately... no broadcast is scheduled yet huhu. TBS (a broadcasting channel) is organizing and promoting the Tokyo shows and they have been more active than usual, so I hope there will be a delayed / edited broadcast scheduled for the Tokyo shows...

Aww, Nobu quote retweeted Shoma's commercial, reminiscing about that recorded moment where Nobu and a MC were teasing Shoma at an ice show interview about his inability to do silly things when he was younger.

Shoma will appear at "The Best Restaurant in Life" variety show on TBS next week. TBS is organizing Ice Brave 2 Tokyo so there may be some promotion as well. He looks good!
