What is the meaning of Cacti in FS?

Cacti? I tell you what it means…it is a broken heart of a fan! Many a time my favourites Sasha Cohen, Caro, Mika (Kolyada), Marin Honda to name a few made me regret rooting for them but you could not walk away from a
Cacti that easily you stay on and let them broke your heart again, don’t ask me why!

AsI understand it (by reading old GS posts), the term derives from a Russian folk saying about mice chewing on a cactus. It sticks them painfully in the mouth, but the next day they go right back to chewing on it anyway.

Just like when your favorite skater lets you down time after time, but you can't help cheering hopefully for him the next time anyway. :)
Ah I see. So then for me, in her heyday, the beautiful but achingly inconsistent Sasha Cohen (especially in the FS) was my first petite cactus. 🌵 Before Sasha, in the '90s, just about all of my favorites won the Olympics - in the Ladies event. Pairs too, in the Men's event, alas, the tragic Christopher Bowman was my rebellious cactus at the '92 Olympics, although Paul Wylie's sparkling silver eased the pain and I was fine with Viktor Petrenko winning...Well enough of the '90s and the early aughts cacti of my youth lol! 🌵🌵🌵🤣🤣🤣

Hi @Allclean and welcome to the board, and to your new obsession as a figure skating fan. By the way, love your handle.

We're always on the lookout for new blood around here. Fresh perspectives are always wanted.

Post a bunch so we get to know you. And never be afraid to ask a question. We're all so used to @elektra blue and her introduction of the concept of cacti, it's easy to forget that others might be left in the dark.

Edit: One of the prime factors in deciding a cactus is that they must perform spectacularly once in a blue moon so you'll always hope for a repeat, which rarely comes. The near universal choice for Cactus GOAT is Michal Březina. We loved him because we simply couldn't help it. As the official keeper of the cactus records, @elektra blue tells us the current King of the Cacti is Alexander Selevko, and really... who can dispute it.

Welcome😄. Skaters, it hurts to love them but we can’t help it - cactus.
Just wait until you hear about kids, fiances and @4everchan ’s terrace.
We have a fun time around here!

his majesty just won a GP medal with two spectacular skates, which means he's going to bomb his next comp (i hope he doesn't as usual, but i'm not confident)

I wouldn't say that it necessarily refers to men only. I, for instance, have an ultimate cacti Swedish pair that I love dearly 🥹
But I agree that the cacti garden in Men category is overwhelming these days thanks to the mandatory quad hunt :(
If it is the pair I am thinking of, I am with you 🥲

The Title may forever be his but he seems to have a good rapport with the coach at SCOB who may be good for his jump technique. Will be interesting to note in future

Reading this post, we sound like a bunch of nutters. :drama:

Oh, wait. We are!

Just root for Sasha to get another GP! He's so good in his Prince sp. Plus, he's forgiven for his 🌵 tendencies because he and Emily Chan are such a cute couple! Cuteness overload. ❣️😊 💞
