2025 Skate America Practice Reports

YES, please and thank you!

I have generally not been a fan of Madison and Evan but listening to Jean-Luc's commentary on their practice was really educational and helped me to appreciate what they do. I love listening to commentary that helps me UNDERSTAND what I'm seeing.
He is so good at explaining it so I can see what he sees.

A question when the technical controller calls a jump understated or edge, can u hear it in the arena also. Do they use a hearing device that only judges can hear or does something pop up on the computer screen?

Today’s dress was more ornate, but all black. I really like today’s version but if it is replacing the first one it should have red embellishments 🤗
In another place I posted this picture from 2015 RD with the red accents and shorter skirt

I used,to rely on getting any of the tiles I couldn't find using the You May Also Like feature, where other skating events would show up. Now I get 3 basketball games, 2 Premier league soccer games 1 vile movie and 2 Wrestling events. This makes me very angry.
We used to have a figure skating tile before the horrible cover band lawsuit. 🙄

You can’t hear it. There used to be a thing in USFS called “Skate Radio” with Jimmie Santee who would just do tech calling in your ear on a radio. But that was a sponsored thing and it went away some time ago.

“One vile movie”😅.
Most of them are BUT imagine my surprise to find they carry one of my favorite PBS miniseries from years past
My Mother and Other Strangers
set in Ireland during WW II when Americans were stationed there

I've seen a few people on X now wondering why anyone thinks this is the costume she will be competing in. To me it just wouldn't make sense to practice in a skirt that's shorter than the one she wears at competition...
I saw the picture of her new costume. The skirt is shorter. What it does establish is that they are sticking at least with the general concept of the program. They have not gone back to something else or using anew program. I guess when you are a top American team they have the resources to whip up new costumes between competitions.

Yay! I love women transitioning to pairs!
Starr has been around it seems like for a while in singles. Maybe it is just mean. AT one point she seemed to be part of the future of women's skating but she never really made the top level and in past years has "regressed" and that potential seemed gone or lost. I am happy for her if she is going to make a run at pairs thoguh sometimes I feel it is more of a second choice but a lot of ladies especially do it because they can't land enough big jumps to be honest. But pairs isn't easy. Besides synchronization a big thing is lifts, throw jumps, pair spins, twists and death spirals are very very different skills. Plus you need to be able to blend and interpret with another arist on ice. Nt easy. The only thing easy is that in the uS pair skaters switch partners all the time so there may be opportunities.

Madison does the costume designing herself. Iirc, she (with her mother) also does some of the sewing/beading, so this would not be the same as a skater who has to have a costume made 100% by someone else.
