2025 Skate America Men's Short Program

They have scored him like this now a couple of times - they are being fair as he backs off of the spins and footwork to conserve energy

Yeah but there was also an UR that I really didn't see personally.

That was... curiously unsatisfying. As was the pairs. 😐

Kevin does always skate well in the US - it is lucky for him
I considered that in my predictions
Sadly there was one time where he skated badly in the US-- Skate America 2021, where he withdrew after a really bad fall in the short program. I was there in person and still remember how sad I was. 😭 I'm amazed that he has had a lot of luck in the US since then-- but I haven't been able to see him perform live in the US since then. 🥲

Proton VPN is free
For others looking to try it, I will be using proton on my phone and sharing my iphone hotspot internet connection with my TV. So I can watch my normal way just using a different WiFi connection. That’s option #1 which I prefer.

I guess option 2 is to stream on my phone and share/cast to the TV. The cast can be unreliable sometimes especially if I get a phone call or something.

Option 3 is to set up my computer with Opera as someone suggested and use my tv as an extended monitor. That one’s a hassle! But will make it work. Thanks y’all!!

I will watch Kevin and Jason all day compared to the others. When will this sport give the components the full value they deserve? A well executed quad deserves a big score but the exemplary performance is given too little credit ! We should see more of a component gap between the mediocre and truly exceptional. Kevin deserves to be first and Jason should be ahead of Daniel.
Exactly ! The gap in points doesn't reflect the actual gap in performance.... It is a bit better in free programs but there is still a long way to go. In fact, it is the same problem in all artistic sports (I'm especially thinking about artistic swimming but not only), difficulty is given much more credit than artistry, and these so called "artistic" sports are losing their artistry to athleticism because athletes are leaving the artistic side to focus on a crazy difficulty race (the most quads, the most difficult combinaison ...) that earn them much more points but doesn't keep them safe btw...

Giving more credit to artistry who help preserve athletes and force them to work on artistry to put it back at the heart of performances, but it would also make the sport less appealing for general audience/medias/sponsors and I guess this is the reason why most federations are not making the step.

So happy Kazuki is leading. I love that program and, honestly, a Japanese Olympic team of Kazuki, Shun, and Yuma would be perfect imho.

Kevin pulled it off! I don't like this program as much as some of his others. But, I hope he keeps it together in the free.

Shaidorov needs to work on SS and spins. I think his lack of flow on landings makes technical panels check the jumps and if a jump gets checked it's rarely a good thing.

Daniel has been working on his extension. I think he should have gotten an UR call and been under Jason but the program was fine.

Jason"s jumps were squeaked out but the program was lovely. Fair score, I guess.

Kazuki ❤️ My boy delivered! How can be 27? Forever 18 for me. Amazing performance, he's the best entertainer and the crowd loved him.
Kevin served his usual drama but he skated really well. I don't get this program tbh, I get he needs that lyrical part to pace himself through jumps but it doesn't go well with Judas. I don't like the costume as well. I wish he brings back Anohni program for the Olympics.
Mikhail's jumps are fantastic but he loses so much on the other elements, he really needs to put some work on that.
Jason's Riverdance is a treat but I wish his costume was a bit more creative than just black turtleneck and had some more green accents.

Looked at the results, and I think i will just skip it and watch free live or something.

While I agree with the general description I strongly disagree with the last conclusion. Actually I think it is exactly the other way round - it is the perfect balance of artistry and athleticism that makes the bigger audience interested, at least for FS audiences (I do not watch other "artistic" sports so I can't tell much about them). The current quad race is not able to gather the crowds which were an every day routine for this sport just several years ago. Both the audience's and sponsors' level of interest is shrinking, not rising. This is the current quad's reality, despite the PR push. This competition attendance is no better than the previous ones so far. Lots of empty seats,

Funny calls must have a different angle then what i did !!

I'm usually good at spotting those without a slow-mo but here I didn't see those, neither the lacking rotation on Brown's triple axel. Maybe the angle wasn't optimal or it was too late for me to watch with my full attention (was past 3AM local time!)

Thank you for the suggestions!

That’s right! Also, while these GP results appear to be underwhelming for a reigning world silver medalist, the reality is that Shaidorov largely benefitted at the last Worlds due to the underperformance of Kagiyama placing 10th in the FS and due to Siao Him Fa placing 9th in the SP. Had they skated to their potential in those portions of the event, the judges would have rewarded their better overall skating and their points would have placed them above Shaidarov, who would have placed 4th overall due to his comparative lackluster spins, footwork, and PCS. Shaidorov was at his technical peak with the jumps in the Boston Worlds FS; he hasn’t been able to duplicate that same magic yet this season. The men are so volatile though that no one appears secure in their World ranking aside from Malinin, who would have to absolutely have a nuclear implosion it appears to lose Olympic gold. Since 2024 Worlds, the excitement surrounding the men’s event is the wild guess as to who will win silver and bronze.
