2025 Skate America Men's Short Program

Well, I can't help but feel like this olympic season has many skaters lowering their BV instead of rising it, but at the very least we got to see some nice skating. Both Liam and Daiwei Dai looked fine, with good knee action and nice lines. Does anyone else also think that Jason didn't look quite as sharp as usual here? A bit slower and "heavier" with his skating to me, or maybe it's just camera that did him disservice. But still, his spins were awesome, his flip easy and light and overall he is a joy to watch. Kazuki is a natural performer, I'm not sure if he is that connected to the music in this particular program, but it is entertainting nonetheless. As for Shaidorov, while I do agree that everything else other than jumps needs more work, I have a feeling that if other skater jumped 4toe from lunge and landed it decently, GOEs would be much higher (i'm not saying it should tho, i'm just saying it's sometimes hard not to wonder if judges also have favorites). Good for Kevin for delivering his program, hope he can keep it that way in the free tomorrow.

I think Jason does need more time focused on training and getting those run-throughs in. He has been on a media tour this fall promoting Nationals and Olympics, appearing on the Kelly Clarkson Show and the Olympic Media Summit. Once he finishes his GP season, I expect to see his trademark sharpness and lightness return. The US men aside from Malinin have been vulnerable, so he certainly isn’t losing any ground in his 2nd US man standing, as of now. Naumov skated well in a less prestigious challenger event, but everyone else has been pretty underwhelming this GP season.

Thanks for telling me where the golden ticket may be hiding to get into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Peacock needs to have its feathers plucked.
Peacock drives me nuts. I have it for one reason and one reason only: figure skating. But each time it will be “gathering” information about me and will recommend anything but figure skating, so every time, I have to start typing f-i-g … This is not unexpected, as all subscription services do this; try to push you to new content. Same happens with Hulu. I watch one show on it. Oh, and try finding figure skating under Sports. Even in CTV Canada will give me speed skating and I need to dig for figure skating. Oh, how we fans suffer for our “niche” sport!

This program was clean but odd with multiple music cuts that do not seem to go together seem to find someway to work. Johnny seems lives it as well

While I agree with the general description I strongly disagree with the last conclusion. Actually I think it is exactly the other way round - it is the perfect balance of artistry and athleticism that makes the bigger audience interested, at least for FS audiences (I do not watch other "artistic" sports so I can't tell much about them). The current quad race is not able to gather the crowds which were an every day routine for this sport just several years ago. Both the audience's and sponsors' level of interest is shrinking, not rising. This is the current quad's reality, despite the PR push. This competition attendance is no better than the previous ones so far. Lots of empty seats,
I don’t know that we can judge the entirety of interest in figure skating by attendance at this event. It’s notoriously difficult to get to unless you live on the eastern seaboard of the US and expensive to stay at.

Fans like quads (see Ilia). They don’t like splatfests.

Oh, I don't know about that,, and that's not what I did anyway. Even if fans like quads, they do not like quad drills, splatfest or not. And this event is not an odd one out in a series of well attended events. Quite to the contrary, it's just another one with lots of empty seats and just another excuse,

I agree that this event is an outlier. For some reason USFS did the ISU a solid by switching its GPs, and LP was the only available host at the time of the switch. SA in Boston, as I recall, was very well attended.

I don't agree that fans like quads per se. They like Ilia. If he was winning everything skating doubles, they'd still like him. And I don't think he could attract an audience to LP on a non-holiday weekend. (Folks liked the last SA in LP, but it was over Thanksgiving and people could make a weekend out of it)
