Hi, I have been wanting to get a new dress for my program this season, a snow white song. I wanted a dress that's not too expensive or flashy, I'm not a super serious skater. I found a dress I actually really like and one of my coaches offered to add rhinestones to it which I think would really elevate it. It is on a site called lightinthebox (link to the dress). I am thinking about the Royal Blue one.

I need it by mid-December at the latest, which I think should be fine if I order within a week.

Their website does seem sketchy, AI products and whatnot.

However, I feel like I have seen skaters at my rink wearing dresses I saw on the website, but when I looked at reviews of the site there have been some very mixed reviews. Some say that it is a great, cheap(er) place to find pretty decent dresses. But I also saw many reviews saying things like they got sizes completely wrong, their dress never showed up, and that they steal designs. I reverse image searched the one I want, and found copies of it on amazon - although those looked pretty sketchy 😬

I realize that their dresses are probably all shipped from China, definitely not from a super high quality store, but I am fine settling for it. The return policy states that you cannot return made-to-order items; which includes this dress.

So, I'm not really sure if I am willing to take the risk of ordering. It isn't an expensive dress in the figure skating world, but it is $100 USD which is a decent sum of money.

Does anyone here have experience ordering off them? Thanks!

I ordered tailcoats from them for my teens for Halloween this year. They took awhile to ship, but they were pretty quick to arrive after shipping (and came within delivery range posted when ordering...although they came in 2 packages with one arriving right at the end of the window). China to New York via air then transferred to USPS. We read a lot of reviews because the site does seem a bit shady. Product reviews were accurate about sizing. Apparently, their return policy is strict/very short window, but I don't have experience with that. We got what we ordered and kept them. I don't know to recommend or not, but it worked out alright for what we ordered.

Skating costumes I mostly have sewn for me here, but I ordered a long ballroom dance competition dress from them once as an experiment. I tried it on, found it didn't fit in the body and the armholes were so tight I couldn't have raised my arms much above waist height. When I went to take it off, the zipper came away from the dress down one side. (And I'm thin, so it's not as if I'd put a lot of strain on the stitching.) While telling other dancers at my studio about this, one of them said she'd ordered a dress from them that came with one sleeve sewn inside out.

I returned it right away; I did get a refund eventually, but very slowly.

Two flukes maybe, but I wouldn't order either a dance or skating dress from them.

Beautiful design, classic. Looks good in all colors but guess you'll have to take a chance which happens on most products originating in China. Sometimes it has a happy ending with the item matching the picture, sometimes not. And sizing can really be off. Plus the sparkle....I hope the item matches the placement and the quality shown. Bonne chance!
