British National Championships, 26-30 November 2025

The Warm-Up music for the final group was a lot better. "We Will Rock You" by Queen, followed by "Car Wash" by Rose Royce.

Just finished watching the competition.

After Alice had her second fall halfway through the programme, I said "She's thrown it away".

I was shocked when Alice's scores were announced and we were told she had won. I genuinely thought Darya had won.

But, I just looked at the Protocols, and Alice won it on the very next element after that second fall. The sequence of jumps had a monster Base Value of 12.65, and then +0.65 in GOE increased it further to 13.30 points.

With that in her arsenal, nobody else was ever going to have a look in.

Congratulations everybody.

Lol. Darya fell over the carpet.

Lilian had a quare laugh when it happened in front of her!

And then nobody fixed it, which meant that Alice tripped over it as well! :drama:

I wonder if they'll do this for everyone? And what will they do if a Pair or Dance team are from different nations? And will the English skaters get Jerusalem or I Vow To The My Country as they play in the Commonwealth Games when English athletes win gold?

It's a conundrum! 🤔🥰

Well, we have our answer. We had two English winers today, but they only got one anthem each time.

It's "Jerusalem" that gets played for England at the Comonwealth Games. I would have loved to hear it here. Such a beautiful piece of music.

Much better than the "Danny Boy" that we get over here! :rolleye:

I do adore the tune of Londonderry Air, which is so poignant, nostalgic and lovely. But the lyrics added much later let it drift into sentimentality. They should just play the tune at Commonwealth Games, everyone would have a tear in their eyes.

Wonder if they'll play Flower of Scotland for Lewis tomorrow? Personally I loathe it, the words and tune are a dirge. Bring back Scotland the Brave! Or Highland Laddie! 💙

See, that's where we differ. I don't like the tune either. Too dreary to inspire pride.

But, I do feel that a national anthem needs to have words. I always feel for Spanish people, who stand there looking lost when the "Royal March" is played, because it has no words. It looks so awkward, and you can see that they feel awkward.

So that's what that tune is called! I have heard it so many times over the years, but never knew it's name! I love it too!

You see, every June a pipe band contest is held at the playing fields of the school I went to. I would always go to it, although I admit that I haven't been since the pandemic. I'm still nervous of being in crowds. Anyway, "Highland Laddie" is one of the tunes that would tend to be played in the medleys. And although I knew the names of some of the tunes, that was one of the ones I didn't.

So thank you   :points:

:thank:

Personally, I love "Flower Of Scotland" AND "Scotland The Brave". Both of them are so rousing, and fill me with pride even though I'm not Scottish.

Anyway, back to the question.

That's where it gets tricky, in the partnership categories. When the partners are from different places, you would need to play an anthem for each of them. But what about the foreign partners. You wouldn't want them to feel left out, but it would be strange having a foreign anthem played at a British Championships. And then there is the likes of Lilah, who has so many nationalities that they are coming out of her ears.

No, for partnerships, it is probably better to stick to playing one anthem: the British anthem. And keep the individual anthems for the Home Countries for the Singles skaters.

Day 3 starts with a lot of Ice Dancing! And then we move to the Pairs SP's, and finally we finish the day with Singles SP's.

But, unfortunately, I will only be able to dip in and out due to this being a Sprint Race weekend for the Formula 1.

Livestream for the Senior Free Dance is now on air.

Here is the link for the livestream:

All the other information you may need can be found in the OP of this thread.

Hope this helps

:cheer: ALL THE BEST EVERYBODY!!! :cheer:

By the way, Atl will be skating with new partner Mia Lee MAYER (DEU) at the Bosphorus Cup in Istanbul in 30 minutes from now.

It's a free stream, so if you want to jump over to see him when the time comes, here is the link:

Hey, if everything aligns nicely, it might be during the Group 2 Warm-Up here!

Unfortunately, there was a withdrawal from Group 1 in Istanbul. So, they are running ahead of schedule.

Mia Lee MAYER / Atl ONGAY-PEREZ (DEU) are coming on now.

Well, it did seem a bit too much to ask that they would be skating during the Warm-Up in Shefield.

On my way home to sit down and catch up on this afternoon's skating!

How are they going to decide who to send to junior worlds for ice dance? Will they just end up doing it on season's best? Don't know the criteria now that Mimi and Joe had to pull out. Such a shame as I was looking forward to a showdown!

I haven't seen Sophia for ages. She has matured a lot in her skating.
I am glad this partnership seems to be working out for her, fingers crossed - it would be really great if Phoebe and James manage to place high enough that we could then send three teams next year!

Actually when they started I was a little surprised they decided to skate for GB and not Spain, since they train in Spain. However looking at the top teams for each I think they have a slightly better chance making it to a European championship for GB than they do for Spain, at least right now.

Ok the Basic novice ice dance babies are adorable!

Sad to see noone in the advanced novice ice dance this year, I hope the youngsters keep going!

Wasn't ready to believe it til I saw proof but she is practising so - Kristen is competing! My buried hope of both her and Nina going to home Euros is tentatively resurrected!

I hope she's feeling good and not putting too much pressure on herself. I'd love to see her get the Olympic selection she earned.

That's a very interesting point. At the moment, Lilah FEAR / Lewis GIBSON (GBR) do seem to have more clout than Olivia SMART / Tim DIECK (ESP). So, going for GBR rather than ESP was the correct choice right now.

But once those two partnerships retire, it's hard to know which partnership out of Phebe BEKKER / James HERNANDEZ (GBR) or Sofía VAL / Asaf KAZIMOV (ESP) will have the upper hand in the long term.

This is where Sara Hurtado, Kirill Khaliavin and Ksenia Monko are playing a very clever game. They have a number two partnership in waiting representing both countries - Sophia BUSHELL / Antonio PEÑA (GBR) and Philomène SABOURIN / Raúl BERMEJO (ESP).

They can't lose!
