I wouldn't say there was anything "conservative" with how Sakamoto and Shimada were scored. Some of the others, maybe, but there were enough candies here.
They always have a few favorites who get higher scores then they would internationally for the same skates but it's by maybe 5-10 points of inflation not the 20 points we see at Russian, French, or Italian Nationals for the favorites.

Anyway, I hope Yuna, Wakaba and Rinka get sent to 4CC. Selfishly, I want to see Yuna and Wakaba skate again and Rinka deserves another chance to shine.

I'm just thrilled JSF finally decided to acknowledge the beauty that is Yuna Aoki and put her 3rd the freeskate and 2nd in PCS. Yes, she is the one that deserves 76 in PCS but 70 is still a win!

I felt that JSF has always loved and supported Yuna though - she's been the NHK host pick 3 times in a row. And in the short here she only landed a 3-2 but still get 69 points and 3rd highest PCS.

I think it's just that she rarely put down a clean skate especially in the free, and that made her PCS never as high as it should be.... Similar to Rino's PCS IMO.

It's not right that proper PCS is only awarded when one skates perfectly clean, but that's just the way it is unfortunately :( The only way I can see this improving is if ISU starts implementing separate panel for TES and PCS.

Fair point.

I would looooove separate panel

I gave in and started a VPN trial for the conference, and meanwhile looked into the greenroom feed. It is so fun looking at these women cheering for their competitors! And consoling each other. Even with my very limited japenese, this is a very heartwarming sight :love3:

Just saw on X that Maria Egawa will also retire after this season (and turning Pro)

Congratulations to Kaori!!!! I am not gong to lie I was crying half way through her FS
and when her scores came up I got choked up all over again! Her skate was amazing :bow: ❤️ ❤️

I discovered an account on "X" @Moozuro that has all the videos up on their page. Thank you!

catching up (out of order as i prioritize getting emotionally whammied)... it really feels like the end of an era with so many retirements from so many wonderful skaters. this is a cohort of skaters that i felt like i fully saw grow up as i watched them from their novice/junior days, even though i took a more recent break from figure skating after being somewhat disheartened & disenchanted with the sport on an organizational level. i'm glad that i've gotten back into it though even if just to witness these potentially last beautiful competitive skates. who knows if any of them will get one last opportunity to shine at an international stage, since the 4cc/worlds roster often gets shaken up a bit during an olympic year, but even if not, these are definitely wonderful swan songs that they can be proud of 💖

😢
Thank you for the update
I've edited the Women's Final Results and Yo Takagi who placed 11th at Jr Nationals (below the funding cutoff) was next inline for funding earned through Sr Nationals placement

Poor Rinka seriously she was crying, she deserves to compete at least at 4cc, if I could make the selections for 4cc, Olympic team/single event and worlds I would do this: 4cc: Ami Nakai, Yuna Aoki, Rinka Watanabe, 1st alternate: Wakaba Higuchi Olympic team Mone Chiba, Kaori Sakamoto, Singles: Kaori Sakamoto, Mone Chiba, Ami Nakai, 1st alternate: Rinka Watanabe Worlds: Kaori Sakamoto, Ami Nakai, Rinka Watanabe 1st alternate: Mone chiba
Minor event in January: Kaori Sakamoto, Mone Chiba
Minor event later: Yuna Aoki, Wakaba Higuchi, Saki Miyake, Mai Mihara, Mana Kawabe, Rinka Watanabe

Congratulations to all of the medallists! Great job ladies! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Huge overscores but that's typical at all Nationals the world over, or so it seems.

WonderWakaba has my heart! 😢💔 That's all I'm going to say about that.

I especially feel for Rinka. I couldn't help but think that the panel was artificially (and unfairly) keeping her scores low, ensuring that she would be below the three chosen ones, IMO. It's not hard to see why the Japanese judge at Skate America placed Rinka FIFTH there. It's a conspiracy against her and I'll fight anyone who tries to tell me different. I'm disheartened for her. I hope that she stays in and doesn't retire yet. If only she could go skate for a Federation that would show her more respect. Smh.

Agreed, they should have given her 4CCs. But since it's about two weeks before the games, it's likely there will be a withdrawal and she will be able to go.
