Only figure skaters, hockey players and speed skaters are in Milan. All other athletes are in different parts of Italy and will walk in separate opening ceremonies.

Is this the 1st Olympics where they marched in different arenas. The skiers, snowboarders, speed skaters, hockey, bialathon , luge, curling, and others all marched in one area before. It was a big deal when Scott Hamilton was flag in 1984 . The other federation had more pull or nominate one of them.

In 2024 the surfers were in Tahiti. They had a very laid back opening ceremony where they pretty much just chilled on a beach and waved.
During the Sydney Olympics, equestrian events were held in Europe (Sweden, I think?). Couldn't tell you more about that opening ceremony.
I am sure there were others where certain events were dislocated to a certain degree, but Milano Cortina are the first ever deliberately geographically spread out Olympics. This is why they are struggling to sell tickets and are at this point begging people to come watch the OC. The audience is spread out all over northern Italy and transport for those wanting to be at the OC in Milan and needing to be elsewhere for their events the next day is difficult.
The large, televised opening ceremony will be in Milan. There will be two Olympic cauldrons - one in Milan, the other in Cortina. There will be several athletes parades - Milano, Cortina, and I think two more in Livigno and Predazzo.

Though this thread is about flags, I write this here, you can move to better place if needed. Maurizio Margaglio will be a torch carrier, and this is second time for him. This was only in skating Finlands' Stories, so I cannot put any link yet.

Vladimir Litvintsev in the opening and closing ceremonies for Azerbaijan. They have two athletes at the games.

They probably wanted ethnic Georgians (at least partially) to carry the flag, a man and a woman, and Berulava is more likely to podium than Egadze.

Many ice dance or pairs teams may be broken up with the selection of the woman and man flag bearer.
It will seem odd to me to see Lilah without Lewis, but most four year fans or Olympic casuals won't know. Congrats to Lilah.

They're not the only team to be 'split' up with only one of the partnership flagbearing. Although I wonder if he'll still be next to her for most of it and helping with the flag as the other Team GB flagbearer will be in Cortina. They can only name two official flagbearers (there was a point where Romania had named 7 but they reduced the number recently) ((I think someone had misread the rules as allowing two flagbearers per location instead of two regardless of location.))

I agree. The news said 3 cities. I am completely clueless as to how they can allow this to happen....Will there be big screen TVs at two of the venues so the flag bearers can watch the main ceremony?
That's idiotic. Can we just get back to one opening ceremony in a stadium with all of the athletes gathered together? Enough of this nonsense like Paris where the opening ceremony was in boats or 3 opening ceremonies in 3 different cities.

As I am at work and can't watch live the first day of the Team Event...I had to check on the down-low, and it looks like this will be the final version of the figure skaters flag bearer list....unless Taiwan finally names Li Yu-Hsiang(other male athletes are in the snow sports, so theoratically he is the only one on site at the Milano ceremony
