Good new for Seniuk :)
Sounds more promising now - but the article also says in the end:

"Whether this process will be completed before the registration deadline for the Winter Olympics on 26 January is yet to be seen"

So they are not absolute sure it will be in time for the deadline, but it sounds like itยดs possible. At least something is happening.

I hope I am not jinxing it, but as I do believe that if they shared this info, that means that it will happen, and the fact that we are talking about 3 athletes, it is 90% done already

Hmm, Itยดs really hard to understand the article, it says that normally the prime minister has the authority to do this instead when there is no interior minister, but that he hasnยดt been able to so because of a ongoing trial. I went to a original source and translated it with Google Translate, and it seems the government wanted to give the prime minister the authority yesterday to do so, so I donยดt know if that means they he will be able to do it despite the trial? The original source also says that the deadline to this procedure is 18th of January, so they really donยดt have many days left. Anyways - if the government gave the prime minister authorization yesterday and he can do it, then itยดs just a matter of time before the athletes will have their citizenship.

About Seniuk situation, I found another article 3 days ago that did clarify to me if it was the prime minister himself who was going to do the signatures, but they didnยดt vote for it before Wednesday.

With just days until the deadline, Israel took a key step Wednesday to enable more than half of its Winter Olympics delegation to be granted Israeli passports that would allow them to compete in Milano Cortina next month, resolving a months-long saga.

The Knesset voted 16-9 to approve a cabinet decision made Sunday to temporarily transfer some of the powers of the interior minister to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, enabling him to issue passports to the athletes in question.

Now, with just days left on the clock, Netanyahu will have to approve the passports, the Interior Ministry must print them and the athletes collect them before the final Olympic registration closes on January 26

So it looks like the signature will be done, but itยดs a race against the clock making the passport, and picking them up. Seniuk will just have the next week to get it all in place. Iยดm assuming this must be done before next Friday.

There were no mixed sone interviews with Seniuk both after the SP and FS, which I found a bit odd. She must be very stressed about this situation and probably didnยดt want to talk with the press.

I couldnยดt figure out where Seniuk trains? I heard US before, but Iยดm not sure that is the case now. Iยดm wondering if there will be Visa issues for her if she will need to reschedule her trip because she needs to go pick up her passport.

Nice to know fans are keeping track of their country's athletes citizenship.

I am curious of two things 1) How they know they need citizenship in first place and not already citizens? 2) How keeping track by media outlets?

Once in social media it stays up and not taken down or possibly current.

If not dicuss situations that happen to them Personally.

I am thrilled that the athletes post their citzenship on social media.
U can see their elation and relief, and happiness ๐Ÿ˜Š.

It makes a perso. Feel warm, happy and fuzzy inside .

Often it's birthplace. In most cases, athletes have the citizenship of their birthplace, and only their birthplace. So an athlete's citizenship gets discussed if they are skating for a country other than where they were born.

There are exceptions, of course, where they have dual citizenship (or a different citizenship) due to their parents' citizenship at the time of their birth. Some countries (France, Ireland) grant citizenship due to ancestry, and some (Israel?) for other reasons.

In addition to @NanaPat response to your questions, I will add that this board is chock-full of knowledgeable fans who have followed many of these skaters for years. These questions of citizenship and what that means for Olympic dreams are not new topics. It's discussed fairly often in sports media, and the skaters themselves are generally pretty open about it.

@SmileHappy34,
I think we can be honest between friends and say that there are some countries which grant citizenship purely cause the adopted athlete is probably going to bring back good results, which the country probably hasn't ever had, or hasn't had in a looong time:)....Both of the countries I am a citizen of is on this train:sneaky:
Of course each case is nuanced if you look into it more closely, but sports funding is tied to results in most countries(and you can't get better then Olympic results), so it is understandable from the admininstator's perspective... and it is wonderfull for the athletes(and us fans) to see them achieve their dream of competing at an Olympics:yes2::yahoo:

Niina Petrokina and Aleksandr Selevko are officially going to the Olympics.

In case anyone else is a stickler for official sourcing (instead of relying on just a fan's Instagram), Estonian Olympic Committee site does list Niina Petrรตkina and Aleksandr Selevko as members of the Estonian team for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina approved by the EOC Executive Board.

(Jan 23)

Instastory highlights on Team Estonia's verified account also show that Niina P. and Aleksandr S. are on 2026 Olympic team.

In case anyone wonders, Fedir's citizenship bid was no more no less than passed by Saeima (the Latvian equivalent of a parliament) in December - and, respectively, approved by it.

When I think about it, I can't help imagining: what if Efimova's citizenship bid was passed by the U.S. Congress?... Cracks me up every time
