Mostly I have nothing to complain. I expected Sofia S to get about 70, but othervise judging was as it should be. And looking the protocols, I understand also her score. I don't know what went wrong in her case, did she not make all the demanded laps in spins, because I think othervise they looked beautiful and she had nice positions? Of course people say they favourites are underscored and non-favourites are overscored, but it in just an opinion based mostly what they want to see, not what really has been performed. Mistakes played a big role this time, as it should be. Sorry not to see one of favorites Maddie in the free, but that is how figure skating is. Two big mistakes when majority of the skaters are clean, you just cannot afford them.

We may be looking at the podium finish among the top five placements in the SP, all depending upon how the LPs go. As for me, I totally give up on the judging. It doesn't mean much, aside from how the tech specialists/controllers call each element. I see plenty of unfairness as to who gets values lowered and who doesn't, who gets qs and !s and who doesn't, who gets honest GOEs and who doesn't, and who gets fair PCs and who doesn't. This Olympics has turned into just a big 'whatever, who even cares?' for me. Maybe Worlds will go better. I will likely not see Worlds, since my Nord VPN is now useless to view anything via other countries. Right now I don't even mind that; it's helpful in other ways.

What’s wrong with your Nord VPN?

Thought one needed to have TV and cable to get Peacock, even to watch online instead? I have neither and am not interested in Peacock at any rate. I don't need the annoyance.
One only needs internet. You can watch on phone, tablet or computer.

Without the underscore on her 3F+3T it would have been 1st place if she had gone clean. Now she's undeservedly in 13th because of the superfluous 'q' call and -GOE on that element.
'q' calls don't deserve to exist in the first place. Without any guidance on how to determine jump takeoff, it makes no sense to be giving calls that landed "exactly" on the quarter - and that's before we get to how the camera angles and frame rates affect our perception of landing angles on video.

I'm a casual figure skating spectator, but yesterday I watched every performance. Now, please explain to me: how is this person still working as a judge? He should be automatically fired for something like this. It demeans the dignity of the Olympics. Lord, protect us from judges like this.

I only saw Adeliia's programme and then the last three groups. I must say it was an interesting competition, but it's also true that everything comes to a head during the free skate.

I am very happy for Adeliia, she had a clean skate without any mistakes and still managed to get into the last group for the free skate. I honestly don't like the short programme, neither in terms of music nor choreography, but I am still super happy with her. I hope her Olympic experience is as peaceful and positive as possible.
I would have expected a 3A, but I also understand why she didn't try it. It's better to skate without mistakes than to get nervous at the first element of the competition.

Jia and Haein are truly delightful to watch. It's a shame about the minor technical issues because, artistically, I find them both entertaining and musical.

I would have expected a higher score for Sofia Samodelkina. I understand that she lost points on the spins, but I must admit that while I can see the mistakes in the jumps more clearly, I find it difficult to spot the errors in the spins. In any case, I found her fresh and in good shape, and I really liked her short program.

I feel very sorry for all the skaters who doubled their triple jumps, losing an element. Amber, in particular, had started so well with the 3A that I thought too soon that everything would go well from then on. But you could see she was nervous.

Loena was interesting and entertaining as usual. Her skating style isn't exactly my favourite, but it's really heartwarming to think about such a long and solid career.
For various reasons (in recent years I've only followed skating sporadically), I had never seen Nina skate before. I really liked her, and I also thought her dress was very pretty.

Congratulations to Ami Nakai! I haven't followed her much, but she clearly deserved first place with that triple axel. In general, I'm not crazy about the short programme, but she has a delightful personality and it's nice to see the joy with which she skates.

I always like Isabeau, even though I understand that she doesn't have the best technique when it comes to jumps, but I always enjoy watching her and I like her skating style.
I haven't followed Alysa or Mone much, but I found them both solid and in good shape. Mone's programme is also entertaining and memorable.

Anastasiia was in good shape, and I'm glad she had her season best with this programme. I'm not crazy about the music (even without getting into the cultural appropriation issue that I've seen raised by some), but I'm happy for her.

Lastly, I was waiting for Kaori and cheering her on. I'm glad she came second and skated cleanly, I hope this energy continues into the free skate.
I clearly remember the first time I saw her skate, when she had a free programme with music from Amelie, and it seems like both a long time ago and no time at all. It makes me very emotional to think that she will retire after these Olympics. I really hope it will be a positive experience to end her impressive career.

Excellent judging at this event.

Everytime I saw a short triple jump, it was called a q. When I saw Isabeau triple triple and saw it clean and saw the judging call it clean, I knew the judges are seeing the jumps correctly. They even called Kaori’s jumps which shocked me.

Ami - Rightful winner of the SP. Her PCS was correct too. Congrats on the 3A!!
Kaori - The best skater. She flies across the ice
Alysa - Too high PCS in my opinion. But, kudos to her for being the only skater to go for the loop combo. Yes. It was q and it was rightfully called as a q. Does she ever make a mistake?
Mone - To me she has the best skating skills. Yes, even better than Kaori. She flew through that program. The fact Alysa scored similarly is an insult to skating skills appreciation.

Adeliya - She skated safely. No 3A means it must not be consistent. I saw no attempts at a 3A during practice. But, I did see 4T’s landed. Also, she seems to be practicing loop combos It will be interesting to see what she will throw to try to move to a podium spot

Gubanova skated a well deserved 6th place.

Under rated skates are Haein and Nina P. They should receive 1 point higher for PCS.

I’m mad Isabeau scored lower PCS than expected.

Amber - after her loop miss, she just gave up. Also, she skates slow and for some strange reason, she can never deliver on the important events. She gets too nervous

But, hugs to Amber and Maddie 😭

Neither you nor the judges are seeing it correctly. Her toeloop twists drastically on the takeoff and lands short.

There is unquestionably AT LEAST 1/4 rotation missing there.

Meanwhile they called her 3Loop as 'q', which had better rotation and definitely landed past 1/4.

Protocol check: two judges put Adeliia in 3rd place with clearly higher scores than other gave her. Guess who? Kazakh judge (formerly BLR, switched federation after BLR was banned) and Israeli judge (born in ZSRR, known for years for bias judging). 🤡 🤡
Japanese judge gave all japanese girls lower score than average (1 point lower than they actually got). :palmf:

Love the skaters, hate the judges, as always.

Can I ask you what do you think about Alissa’s 3-3 combo? I can usually spot pretty good on reply at least jumps that ar Ur or at least borderline but in this case I actually thought after watching it in slow motion that it was fully rotated.
The same with Amber’s combo that looked wonky live but fully rotated on reply. Mone’s 3-3 looked slightly off axis at landing but both me and my national comentator (former skater) were sure that it was fully rotated. I did thought Loenna’s combo was clearly Ur, and that Kaori’s was borderline. I thought Gubanova’s 3T was good (and it was) but lutz borderline (but was given the benefit of the doubt).

Mone SP was great, i like it a lot .i seen the full rotation ,loena was clearly and lutz looked no borderline (maybe need watch it again with more analysis)

Loena SP was beautiful and with a lot of nuances but it feels like a discotheque rather than ice rink and Nina SP was like tender but in some segments tend to lose that softness.

Amber was outstanding and Japanese great, about AIN skaters (the euphemism for don't call Russians) promises a lot in their SP but no enough arguments for say they did it amazing, was good but not great

The same way USA put her in 11... japanese judge are fair no matter what

Jess Perlmutter, an American slopestyle ski boarder asked for anyone who knew how to connect her so that she could meet Alysa Liu. Someone did, not in person, but over facetime or something like that, and Alysa wished her good luck and said she wanted to learn how to snowboard. They showed that piece just now before Jess's run in the final. She's 4th so far during the 2d run.
