Yes, as I remember it, Irina was super mad. Crying, inconsolable and had to be forced to go out for the medals.
Like Sasha, this is why I don't understand this "I'm thrilled for Alysa, fake smile plastered" attitude, its ok to be upset. We are human and you get 1 chance for Olympics sometimes.

Mao was a mess in 2010 with her silver. She pulled two 3A in her Lp to single out a toe at the end. She was everything but happy. Yuna was livid in 2014, Medvedeva was a mess as well in 2018 after losing to Zagitova despite being clean. Trusova absolutely lost it in 2022.
In 2006 Sasha was livid as well. I was to young for 2002 but my guess is that Irina was not very happy with her silver medal.
If you want a happy silver medallst watch Lambiel in 2006 Olympics. Absolutely heartwarmin.
For real silver medal livid, Google "Nancy Kerrigan Lillehammer 1994."

That was livid...the epitome of poor sportsmanship. As an American, I was embarrassed for the US.

I think some people are just too blinded with hate to see the truth right in front of them.

Guys I am not saying Alysa is perfect, she is slower than Japanese skaters, a little sloppy looking and her jumps can be ur and not called sometimes, but TODAY she was the best, she skated clean as the only one from top 6. She performed since the music started, not after the jumps were done.

How on earth you would have someone else win?
I've got to agree here, If the Kaori or Nanaki were clean they would have easily beaten her. But they were'nt and Alysa was the cleanest today (though of course not perfect). Maybe things would have turned out differently a different day, but they were quite close. In my opinion it was always going to be a toss up.

There were no UR's in Ami's program.

Meanwhile, Alysa had her usual sketchy 3T executed with a huge reach-around, but no call.

The judges simply held Ami down because she's not the person who is "supposed" to win. Completely hosed her on PCS and also GOE for the 'q' calls on jumps that were totally fine.
I did not expect that tech panel to hammer down like that too. She had the cleanest rotations this competition.

This. I prefer both other American skaters to her. They are both faster and have better upper body movement control. I prefer Kaori to her. I usually prefer Mone to her. Only Ami is less refined imho. But, her win is clearly deserved. How do you argue that anyone else should have won? Like Mikhail in the men's event, he's likely my least favorite skater in the whole event, much much much less artistic than even other "technical" skaters like Ilya. But, he also clearly deserved the win on the night. There's nothing controversial here ...

So, half of the field improved their SB, the other half didn't...

But while I find Ami Nakai's Components promising, I've been quite disappointed with the lack of progression of Mao Shimada in that respect.
I think Shimada being in Juniors way past when she should have been is partly why she hasn't progressed enough. When you are winning everything and not being challenged you stagnate. She will be pushed next season to be much better and know what she has to work on when she finally goes against the Senior Ladies.

That's pretty cool. Gubanova beat the team event fatigue to improve :)

While I was rooting for Kaori to win, I think this is a super satisfying podium and result.

Alysa delivered, was clean in both programs. I don't think she was over-generously scored (got ! calls on both of her flips) - she had the best PERFORMANCE -- her and Ami were the two of the final flight who I thought were performing with a sense of ease and confidence from start to finish whereas others were clearly focused on executing (including Kaori - who I thought did get a rather generous 75 PCS, and no lutz calls, even her GOE on her final spin which was a bit awkward was high, and her 2A too which was a bit shaky but got 5's - the judges clearly wanted her to win but the TES base value wasn't having it).

While part of me would have been super happy with Kaori winning - I am much happier that the fair result occurred. It would not have been fair for Kaori to win with SUCH a critical error (leaving about 6-7 points on the table) and still being propped ahead of Liu. I mean, come on, she not only didn't combo but she left out a triple. I also thought she was skating with evident pressure (understandable) whereas Liu just went for broke and got the job done (great layback spin too to punctuate the performance).

Also I love Alysa's vibe - she feels really current and doesn't fit the typical ice princess mold. The hair, the frenulum piercing, the "That's what I'm ****ing talking about." A one-of-a-kind Olympic champion and what a story!
