Kazuki Tomono

Congrats on the silver medal, Kazuki! All things considered he did pretty well.

Now I hope he and the entire cast enjoy Kassouya (what they have in store sounds quite epic - let's hope we get to see some of it)! 😊
I agree! BTW, synesthesia... it seems Wakaba went blonde too 👱‍♀️ Given that they are both doing one of the finales together, representing Byakko (the White Tiger), do you think the hair colour has something to do with Kassouya, after all? I gotta say, as a cat lover, I am quite happy that Kazuki will be representing the tiger 🐯

Meanwhile, a fan kindly posted a fan cam of Halston's step sequence. Surprisingly, I thought that the blond hair looks quite nice with the Halston costume!

Hmm, I've seen people say on social media that Wakaba went blonde, but in the photos from the Kassouya training camp in Ehime and Kanako's recent ig story with her (which is expired now), her hair is actually red-ish, so I don't see the connection to the White Tiger. I'm pretty sure that Dai went blonde for Kassouya, though (as it's his thing to dye/style his hair to match his programs/shows - I wonder, if he represents the fifth and central element from Chinese mythology, the yellow dragon, even though it does not exist in the Japanese equivalent). And Kazuki might have as well to match Byakko. Btw, as I understand it Kazuki and Wakaba do not only lead one of the finales together - I think they are grouped together (with Kosho, Ibuki, Ryoga and Leon) for much/the majority of the show!? 🙂

Aww, tigers are my favourite animals (coincidentally it's also Dai's Chinese zodiac sign)! 🥰

That's awesome, Kazuki/Wakaba is such a powerful and expressive duo, perfect for expressing tiger energy 🐯 Can't wait to see them skate together!

Actually, I just looked it up, Kazuki's Chinese Zodiac sign is also Tiger 😲🐅 He and Dai-chan are 'tiger brothers', but according to Google, Dai-chan is a 'fire tiger' and Kazuki is an 'earth tiger'. I wonder what it means, and if they actually took this under consideration when assigning the roles - and the blond hair!

In other news, Rinka posted these cute pics from Coupe du Printemps, so cool that everyone in team Japan got a medal

Agreed, they really seem like a great match!

You’ve got me curious, so I’ve had a look at the Chinese zodiac signs of all the group leaders – only to find that Kazuki is the only one whose Chinese zodiac sign matches the deity/divine beast he represents. So I suppose that probably wasn’t really a factor in the assignments? (Wakaba was born in the year of the (metal) dragon and Koshiro in the year of the snake, yet neither of them represents the deity most closely associated with their respective zodiac signs (the Azure Dragon and the Black Turtle-Snake, respectively).)

That's interesting! I guess Kazuki representing Byakko as a Tiger himself was a happy coincidence. Wakaba being a Dragon is also interesting as 'the Tiger and the Dragon' is also an important theme in Chinese/Japanese mythology: https://new.artsmia.org/programs/te...ts/artwork-in-focus/japanese-tiger-and-dragon

Sota is also a Dragon, and I remember once in an interview how they described themselves as 'the tiger and the dragon' because they are very different as skaters, and turns out, they are literally tiger and dragon according to the Chinese zodiac 🐯🐉

BTW it was announced yesterday that Kazuki is indeed the leader of the Byakko group:

It's safe to say now that "everyone" turning blonde at the same time is not a coincidence 😅 (Wakaba's hair still has a red tinge, but I think she might have gone another shade lighter since her last public outing? 🧐)

Kazuki and Dai are filling in for Wakaba today, who unfortunately dropped out due to illness (the "Kassouya curse" continues :cry2:):

I'm really sad that Wakaba won't be able to perform in the remaining shows — she was an amazing addition and a natural fit for Kassouya (hopefully she'll be back next time ) — but Kazuki, our chief pinch hitter, and Dai did an excellent job as her stand-ins (and really got the audience going!)

Thank you for the update - I agree, it's a huge loss for the show. I watched Wakaba's solo version, and then the Dai/Kazuki version, and it's amazing to see what these three skaters have in common: a phenomenal sense of rhythm.
No shade to anyone, but I can think of so many skaters who would NOT be able to pull off this music. I think this really highlights how everyone in the Kassouya cast is really musical and versatile.

Of course, I'm also really touched that Kazuki was chosen to share this number with Dai, and continues to enjoy his status as wakagashira (second in command). I can't help but fangirl very hard seeing these two skating together 😍

Here's another fan cam:

It's not just the sense of rhythm in my opinion. Of course they have it at a high level, but a skater can't project it unless they've worked quite a lot the body/limbs move to express strong impulses etc. In my opinion, that's why they're such impressive show persons. (In my opinion, they also have a vision of what they want to achieve, but I also believe that a narrowly directed skater could achieve this without their own vision.)

You're so right - projection is also so important. The ability to channel the music and the programme's worldview, it's something that all three skaters have in spades.

I know that Kazuki worked really hard to get to this level, I'm so proud of him. This fancam left me mesmerised: the smooth flow, the use of his whole body, his facial expressions. Why is he still wasting time with competitions 😭

On a different note, does anyone remember where is this acrylic stand is from? is it from the previous Kassouya?

Updates from today - Kazuki's IG post about Kassouya:

Kassouya ~Volume 2~

I was truly delighted to be able to perform in such a wonderful ice show once again.

Team Byakko are the best!

Also, Kazuki will be performing at Dreams on Ice this year! His packed agenda continues 😄
