2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

I loved petr janoschek
what happened to them / what's the link with toller ? yup for Dubreuil Lauzon..never liked the Bulgarians

I support local talent too...
Ms Petr and husband got banned for life - see wiki link for details. That is the ick part. Mark seemed to live a more peaceful life.

Toller choreographed for them their breakout season - yes Toller coached ice dance for real.
He gave them a program skated to the circus music from Pee Wee’s big adventure giving them a striking modern art program with his trademark colorful costumes that would’ve probably gotten a nomination even today. I loved it all.

I think I will nominate them for a lifetime award next year cause this makes three costumes
Yes the music is also memorial used by Grishuk & Platov

I don't know what Mark Janischak is doing now, although I believe he's coaching in Ontario, but Jacqui Petr and her husband, US pairs skater Joseph Mero, were banned for life as coaches in the US (and presumably elsewhere). They boarded students in their home and Jacqui was banned for, to put it delicately, having inappropriate relationships with under-age male pupils in her own home. Mero was also banned, partly for turning a blind eye to his wife's activities, and officially for "harassment and abuse" of their students. A nasty business all around.

She had previously been warned by the CFSA, while still an underage teen competitor, for "harassing" older male ice dancers at Canadian summer camps, having told other girl skaters that her goal for the summer was to check off all the straight males on her target list. One of them, a friend of mine who was in his early 20s at the time, told me he turned her down, saying "I don't do 15-year-olds". She then attempted to get him expelled from the camp but that came to nothing because she'd bragged to too many other girls who quoted her when questioned. Not one of our most illustrious medallists.

Poor Toller - he had this team and Chris Bowman at the same time. No wonder he left coaching.

OMG.

Yes, he told friends if that was what coaches had to put up with, on ice and off, he wanted no part of it. He'd been a good coach and great choreographer, but couldn't stand the personal side of the work.
talk about bad luck though... getting these skaters in particular... at the same time, maybe he should have said no to them and coached skaters who were a bit less complicated to deal with ? I mean, I do that... so why not others ? If some students are problematic or if their parents are hardcore, I don't bother.

I'd have to go back and read that part in whichever of his autobiographies it appears. I can't remember if he needed the money, or if he got talked into making an attempt where others had given up, or what it was. He knew Christopher's reputation, but wasn't aware just how much Jacqui and Mark loathed each other (but were persuaded to stay together by the CFSA because their skating matched each other so well even if their personalities didn't).

Attention !

I will be soon starting 1) the new main Canadian thread and 2) the various competition threads as the subforum for 2026-27 is now open for business.

We do have a competition coming up this weekend in BC. So feel free to jump ship into the 2026-27 Canadian skating thread.
