Let's credit @CWSkating for bringing this one up in the CQÉ thread. I take full credit for LiLa and formerly LaLa but I cannot take credit for BakerieBakerie is just too funny, it has my vote.

What about LaBakerie!Well we need to figure it out.. Is it LaBa or Bakerie ? It's already confusing enough for some when we used these monikers if on top of that we have two. people will pass out.
Bakerie is pretty clever, indeed.
Now, all we need is for Marjo & Jean-Luc to create an appetizing, mouth-watering, bubbly, warm, loafy, doughy, self-rising, tasty, buttery, pastry-themed or cake-themed program.![]()
I betcha not even they know at the moment. Let's go with the flow, not upset the applecart, allow the batter to be well-seasoned, to be whipped smoothly, to be poured evenly, and baked at just the right temperature to come out in due time looking delish and scrumptious. So are they in it for the next 4 years? Jean-Luc is not exactly a spring chicken anymore and hasn't competed in at least 3 years.
This one has my vote. It's clever and is related to the standard last initials abbreviations (ie L/B). It can even be written La/Bakerie to highlight that similarity. What about LaBakerie!![]()

There are two different reasons for team nicknames or abbreviations.but it's too long.
At this point, I would just write Lajoie/Baker.
LaBa was for the initial purposes and because it means over there in French... because that's where they are headed, France 2030.
sure but there is no need for the La... Marjo is represented by the rie. So Bakerie works and is simplerThere are two different reasons for team nicknames or abbreviations.
One is shortening the name (usually used when making multiple references in the same post or thread, and best after giving the name in full when first referring to them. For that La/Ba is an obvious choice. It's not much longer than the standard L/B, is understandable to those who expect the usual L/B, and actually has some meaning and is pronouncable.
The other reason is to show affection for the team, or one's "in" status, by using something cutesey and possibly obscure. LaBakerie fills this niche nicely.
Adding the La is just adding an unnecessary article I would probably go with La/Ba because I want to be easily understood. I would use Bakerie if it catches on and everyone uses it.sure but there is no need for the La... Marjo is represented by the rie. and two more letters
In any case, you can call them any way you wantI will stick to LaBa or maybe even Bakerie
You could also go with Marjo-Luc if you wish

I sit this discussion out because I almost never use abbreviations or portmanteau names for couples unless I'm typing in a big hurry. But I'd be amused if "Bakerie" caught on because it would be edging into ballroom dance territory, where in all lists and conversations the man's name traditionally comes first in partnerships. There's always a perpetual low-key grumbling from non-European fans about that, but no one makes a serious attempt to turn the names around.I would probably go with La/Ba because I want to be easily understood. I would use Bakerie if it catches on and everyone uses it.
On Marjo-Luc or even worse M/L or M/J. I would feel like a pretentious blowhard if I used any of them.
You can always call them by their full names. Sometimes it's necessary, sometimes it's possible but in many threads, it's just not easy to do so. For instance, in live action competition threads, when things go fast, some users, like myself, like to go with quicker versions that people understand because we are live, watching these skaters... so it's not rocket science to get that LaBa is Lajoie-Baker when they are on the ice or in the KnC. Using the full names, takes longer, gets redundant and sometimes, posts are getting too slow to write and end up appearing when other skaters are on. So I personally think it's okay to use shorter versions. What's wrong with just saying "Marjorie and Jean-Luc" or "Lajoie and Baker"?
Most of the time when nicknames or initials are used, I haven't a clue who is being talked about. And it takes far too long to try to work it out. So, when I come across a post that does that, I just give up reading it and move onto the next post.

I often watch a full event after it's completed while following along with the competition threads. I'm not often flummoxed by abbreviations, as I usually have printed the start order, but am sometimes confused by posts that don't indicate at all who is being discussed.

I believe the replay lounge was created to allow both to coexist.
If you like the excitement of live commentary, the competition threads are for you.
If you prefer a deeper experience, after the fact, the replay lounge is your best friend.
Some people do that. Some people do notFunnily enough, I have never felt the urge to even go into the Replay Lounge threads. Because I always imagined that they would be like the competition threads get once the skating has finished - arguing about the results, and the judging, and the scoring, etc. And people shouting at each other. I can't be bothered listening to that.
. You have all the tools you need to read what interests you and skip what doesn't interest you I am not sure I am following all of your channel talk so I will only say : I am glad they are locking the live threads... because it has the purpose of being a live thread and sometimes, some fans including myself, get passionate about a score, a skate an outfit... getting quoted hours, days, weeks after about a passionate post is not always funPlus, I was biased against the Replay Lounge threads because of the way that during the Olympics, the competition threads got locked as soon as they opened. Firstly because it meant I couldn't reply to posts in the competition threads when I was watching back on demand. (I don't usually reply to posts afterwards, but sometimes I do). But mainly because I knew HBO Max was launching in the UK a month after the Olympics ended, and all the content from TNT Sports would moving there. And I was intending to replace the old Discovery+ links that I had posted with the new HBO Max links. But because the threads had got locked, I couldn't edit my posts.
So, you would recommend them, then. I'll maybe call in during the new season.
