Ladies SP

Tesla, I think she must have gotten a L1 on the layback and possible mandatory -3 GOE on it because it's a required element to hold it for 8 revolutions in the main position? I'm less certain on GOE rules

Melissa Telecky (French Tango)

3T+2T nice
3Lo bad 2-foot and fall, possible UR
FSSp3
2A ok
LSSp3/4 (sped up a little, not a lot)
CCoSp4
She's not really using this music at all, unless that's just the feed
SpSq 4, slight bobble on COE and her unsupported spiral would be beautiful if her free leg was actually straight...

Good for Czisny, but I would not want to send her to Worlds.

Well, that's not really at issue here. Remember Nationals is not a qualifying competition for Worlds. Only the national champion is guaranteed a stop on the Worlds team. Others are named at the discretion of the USFSA.

Oh, man, usually the layback spins nets her a lot of points, because it's level 4 and high GOE (2-3). If it was really just level one...

Wasn't her PCS (25 something) really low, considering her presentation?

Totally. I'm really curious how other top rankers will do in terms of pcs.

Czisny 65.75

Hacker 54.79

Well I guess Alissa will just have to win then. :)

I don't understand. The US judges alway seemed very harsh on Caroline. I will see how they judge the rest of them this year.

By doing so, they are only mirroring the international judges: Caroline had had a lot of UR deductions not to mention other elements.

*sigh* I think with a score this low, Caroline might easily end up 5th or 6th again, or 7th like last year. Alissa is already ahead. Ashley will beat her she's clean, or even if she has a fall without downgrade, since she's getting high PCS for her SP this year. Rachael will probably go clean and beat Caroline, too. Mirai gets very high PCS, and can afford a downgrade and still beat Caroline. Bebe is a dark horse, and she's skated very good SP at National's before, so she can maybe get around 60. If another one of the up-and-comers, like Angela Maxwell, Becky Bereswill, or Alexe Gilles, has an amazing skate (clean, with 3-3, high level spins/spirals), then Caroline could easily fall down to 7th.

Have I missed anyone?

Her technique is so inconsistent though.

Yes, but if, if she skates a clean program like today, she has a better chance than any other US ladies to place in top five. Other ladies, although more consistent, haven't placed really high even with a relative clean program.

Molly Oberstar (Somewhere Over the Rainbow)

Gold blades
Pretty outside spread eagle to 3S hand down + 2T
3Lo possible UR
back spiral to 2A nice
They're definitely trying to gain GOE with hard variations
SlSt suits her very well
FSSp4, possibly 3 since she was technically not low enough in pancake
SpSq4, released her leg into a full split after the COE
CCoSp4
LSp3 -- she definitely did not hold the haircutter long enough, horrible bent skating leg in sideways

Wasn't her PCS (25 something) really low, considering her presentation?

Remember, PCS factors in much more than just presentation. Did she have great skating skills? speed? power? command and full coverage of the ice? strong, secure edges? transitions linking the elements together? choreography? musical interpretation? was the performance well executed?
