Great read! Thanks! I've always enjoyed their skating and will be eager to see them at Nationals.
Is it just me or do Emily and Evan have alot more chemistry than usual...? I don't mean chemistry as in the "work well together" sense but in the "more than partners" sense. I get the feeling that Tan and Ben are great friends and partners, and same with Meryl and Charlie (more like sister/brother in this case lol)....but whenever Emily and Evan finish a performance he's always so affectionate with her with the kisses and such that I can't help but wonder if theres anything more to it. I definitely don't get as much of a "platonic" vibe from Emily and Evan. It also seems like while Meryl/Charlie & Tan/Ben "get into character" and really effuse on ice in performance, Emily and Evan actually don't behave too much more dramatically than normal on the ice. Course, it could just be different performing preferences but I've always been curious..

I think that Emily & Evan are right. The Tango Romantica and Golden Waltz are two really hard CD's and they will defiitely show significant differences between the top teams.
I can't say I'm crazy about calling the Dixie Chicks American folk though, because they are not. (But I hope they're using the Goodbye Earl song-It would be something different in ice dance to see how they interpret Emily poisoning Evan with the black eyed peas

I am excited to see the freedance. Last year's was (i feel) not to their best advantage, the music was repetitive and a lot like the year before.

yeah, I have to say that they are strong candidates for that 3rd spot and I believe that this team will do well this coming season.
This is the first time I am hearing about back problems for Emily. I hope they are only minor.
I agree about their free dances. Hopefully they have found the right music to skate to. I just think that need to find the right kind of music that really brings out their personality
For Tanith and Ben it was classical music (Chopin, Tosca) that really brought out their choreography and the judges started to take them seriously again.

I sincerely hope they are not a couple off the ice. When romances go sour, too often the partnership does, too.

so? Just because a team is affectionate after a performance doesn't mean they're going at it off ice, and I find their connection/partnership an asset and a good thing. Unlike the other American team, S/B really work well together and the performance comes over as more harmonious than their matured teammates.

Well they aren't sloppy and look more like a unit when they dance.
Are you referring to both of the current top rated American ice dancing teams?

I don't which teams you are refering to as "sloopy". I don't see any sloppy skating when it comes to Belbin and Agosto and Davis and White. IMO

I think S/B are a great team but no one can fault the unison of either B/A or D/W. Or call them sloppy.

Yes, but at the same time, several on-ice couples have very good relationships off the ice as well. I think as long as you remain committed to your skating goals no matter what, it would be fine for on-ice partners to be in an off-ice relationship. Not every romantic relationship ends bitterly (or at all), and being very close to someone off the ice could even enhance your relationship on the ice. If two partners feel a romantic connection, why not pursue it. As for Emily and Evan, they seem like just friends to me, but I obviously don't know that much about them to know anything for sure.

I know we're venturing off-topic here but I like what you said here. I honestly can't think of any (although I'm sure there were some) teams that broke up because of a romance gone sour. I guess I'm thinking of the more well-known teams. Either they are a couple on and off the ice or they are very close as partners without being in a romantic relationship. Most of the teams seem to fall into these categories. I also don't think that the affection they show to one another can indicate how close they are unless it is very obvious (like Inoue/Baldwin). Some people just aren't demonstrative, others are. Evan and Emily seem like they are very close and supportive of one another but they do seem like just good friends and partners. Whatever the case, they are a great team.

Grishuk/Platov and Usova/Zhulin, where both teams broke up, partially over the Grishuk/Zhulin affair.
A more common scenario is where one member of a team falls in love with another skater and determines to break up their current team so that they can skate with their new love. for example:
Averbukh/Anissina ---> Lobacheva/Averbukh (Anissina then teams with Peizerat)
Meno/Wendland & Kuchiki /Sand ---> Meno/Sand Their two partners ended up out of luck, basically.

Odd reading some of the speculation about this couple off-ice.
Myself, I liked them right away when I saw them skate at their first Nationals to Luna, which I love. What caught my attention right away is how well they're matched......long gorgeous lines......pointed toes, flexibility, lovely secure long stroking, musicality. They just had everything, and it didn't hurt that they reminded me of an all-time fav couple of mine (i.e. Anissina & Peizerat). And to top it off when I heard they skated together since children (they will be celebrating their 10th year together this year), I became a fan. Yeah, I'm not sure they picked the right music to bring out all their fabulous qualities last year, but I did enjoy their Bee Gees disco routine, lol. And I look forward with great anticipation & excitement to see what they have to offer this year as well.
P.S. it's not a prerequisite, but when I found out what lovely personalities they have as well, it just made me more of a fan. I particularly enjoyed the Q&A they did with icenetwork last summer ~ Evan's really funny
~ and Emily's ladylike personality complements him just fine. They obviously work well together & are friends.
