Plushenko will honour us with his presence in 2010!

He gets down lower, but his positions look worse to me (the speed has not improved either). The "cannonball" position he is currently attempting in the sit spin looks absolutely awful and slows the spin down too.

hey! we agree on something!

his sit spin reminds me of Timothy Goebel's attempt on a classic sit spin... bad posture... and just not all that great...

though Tim could get down low in the canonball type sit... just not with his back all the way down.

I'm critical of my favorites as well (Tim Goebel being one of them) there are few skaters that I can just gush forever about (even Kurt had a crappy sit spin, for what that's worth). And it's great that all of the skaters have their diehard fans whether I agree or not.

This thread has actually been an interesting coming together. If I may give some advice from someone who's been on Golden Skate since 2001/2002:

1 - don't take the "negative" on your skater personally. We're not going to agree 100% of the time on a skater, there are just way too many of us and this is a general skating board... all skaters are going to bring a bit of controversy

2 - we may be based in the US but Golden Skate has members all over the world, as such there are going to be very different views on how skating should look/be... none of them are right or wrong, just different.

3 - the best way to get the naysayers to die off is to not feed into their obsession. I realize in this thread I'm considered one of those 'evil ones' but seriously, just ignore it and be your happy go lucky self... you'll find it much easier lol

4 - don't retaliate by deciding if this person doesn't like Skater A they must like Skater B and so I'll be overly critical of their skater. Chances are they also don't like skater B and you'll alienate others who might be willing to defend your cause LOL

this isn't a modly reminder or anything, just some random sleep deprived advice...

As of repeating the ideas, subjects, praise, and critics, if you read them for a while, you will find that they are all repeating. That's a forum. If everyone restrain him/herself to not repeat anything that has been said by him/herself or others, there will be no more forums.;) People love to repeat and vent in the same way over and over.
For me it is completely noinventive and boring :sheesh:
.. and there has one famous thought: "If a lie repeated 100 times ...." ;)

Thanks jenny, janet and noondarkly on nice words about Plushy :agree: :party2:

Plushyta, I LOVE your signature. Can I use it too, please? Please? :)
No! :p ... but you can take this ;)

I read somewhere that Mao said something like she will watch Plush videos of his jumps to see how he throws them without doing any in warm up and Takahiko said that watching how Plushy behaved in competition, practice and warm up approach was a great lesson for him and he gained a lot from their competition.

Mishin also said he was at some point puzzled when watching evgeni improvising in his lp. If only Morozov was evgeni's coach he would have jumped inside arena from shock, lol!

I really hope the excitement of media would stop now, (although I liked some stuff they wrote including their negative remarks on his skating, mishin spotted them first anyway in press conference), so there wont be any big expectation for Plush until Olys and he trains calm. I really dont mind what he will get in Olys, of course I would like to him to be on podium or even win Olys, but not like the way I wanted him to win in 2006. This time I dont mind. But I really wish he will skate in Olys as the reigning Olympic Champion should, that would be beyond joy for me:)

What I enjoyed most in his skating live is that you dont get anxious, he looked like skating free from calculating marks or what he will do next (okay..maybe he skated TOO free, lol), I think this is his big achievement on his comeback. And no jntfan I didnt cry neither I had heart attacks when i saw him on ice!LOL! But i screamed woohoo, welcome back! the bad thing is that I didnt get synchronized with the rest of the audience and it came out late and I think I ruined his concentration, lol!:rolleye:

I enjoyed seeing "The Return of the King" and to see the "mini Plushenkos" must have been quite a site :) .

On second thought, I wish he would win the Olys so that you dye your hair blond and keep a mullet for a week, do you remember the bet?

I think she just said she doesnt comment to others' skaters personal threads if she doesnt like the skaters. Anyway, i for once, was glad to meet plushyta in person. Lovely girl and she helped me a lot with my non russian skills. My greek friends also were happy to meet you Plushyta, even if they are not Plushy fans, lol!
What happened to you Anty, you saw Evgeni's Lp and decided to quit the boards forever?I m worried about you the moment you see it, lol!Drink a beer first:laugh:

Sadly i've been too busy with work to catch up on videos from either TEB or Rostelcom :(

Maybe i'm just still exceptionally jealous that you were at both

I will get round to watching the programmes and comment on them though i promise....and alcohol will likely be involved!

Ant

poor thing, if it is a difficult month for you maybe you should skip Plush lp, in any case alcohol is recommended, unless you overdo it and you see two fingers instead of one:biggrin:

I don't know, it might be fun to see the drunk version, in which Plushenko proclaims that he's number 11 :p.

This made me think... we need a drinking game for this season. Who wants to put one together? I nominate Ant. :agree:

It will be good, if he see only 2 fingers  ... not some "wrong" one finger

what is the drinking game???
Basically, you watch an event, or a tv show, or a movie, and there are certain things that if they happen, you have to take a drink of something (or multiple drinks). So with skating, you might have to drink every time someone skates to POTO, every time a dance team does a country themed OD, every time the US broadcasters cry wuzrobbed, every time Nikolai Morozov makes a spectacle of himself at the boards, etc., etc. The possiblities are endless!

Disclaimer: I am not advocating that anyone here overindulge in drinking, or drink if underage! Drink water, it's healthier...

Your sig only loaded partially on my computer. It looked nice.

Take a shot every time Scott Hamilton screams "Nailed it!" at a barely held wonky landing.

Take a shot every time a skater says (paraphrasing) "I don't pay attention to what the other skaters are doing, I just want to concentrate on skating the best performance possible."

Take a shot every time the camera shows Mishin looking glum.

Take a shot every time one the non-skating Eurosport announcer is corrected by the skating one.

Yes, I'm actively trying to turn you all into alcoholics.

That would be good for lighweights

For those who really want to get bombed substitute "Johnny" for Tomas.
Warning: Be careful and do not play this game if you intend to operate a vehicle ;)
I am sorry, but overall I think Verner had more absolutely memorable meltdowns.

I am happy to see Plushenko back. He is going to elevate the overall level of mens technical content. I find it amusing that some people complain about his lack of choreography and transitions. There are skaters that have choreography and transitions but they can't land the jumps. Why don't we hear complaints about those? - It's because they don't win, and they can't without landing the jumps. Jumps are the biggest point getters, and jumps are what separates the top skaters from rest of the field. There are more complete skaters than Plushenko but nobody matches his presence on the ice. After a 4 year lapse I was not sure that he could still do the 4-3 combinations, but he did. They were not as good as in the past, but still better than anyone else that has been skating uninterrupted. I respect him for returning to competition. I expect he will be in better shape by February. I doubt that the judges are just going to give him the OGM; they did not in 2002. He is good enough to medal at the 2010 Olympics, which would be quite an accomplishment, even a bronze. I would love to see him win his second OGM, but I will be equally happy to see Takahashi or Oda win it. Sadly, Weir who I used to like, is no longer in contention.

I just watched Plushy's two interviews
for nbc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUB1W1Db-vc
and cbc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g29YaY9nUhI

and I cracked up:laugh: I had not seen them! He looks very happy and he is so cute in english and he keeps rumbling about food, LOL, that must have cost him a lot cause he refers to spaghetti, red wine etc and being difficult to lose kilos in both interviews!
Poor Plushy, If i knew it I would have given him a big chocolate to be happy!
I dont believe he really means he would continue to compete after Olys, I believe he was just too excited at the moment.

Maybe I go to Tallin and I ll go with a spaghetti menu!
