Any Sasha updates?

kympa- i like that answer-when it was stated disappointing of how sasha is handling her comeback. i totally agree, on her handling of it.
yes she has an injury, i am sorry about that. but it is her handling of the matter plus the usfsa in handling of it which is bad and make the sport look bad
how usfsa.--went behind scenes to get sasha 2 gp-withdrew
waited until monday to tell media sasha pulled out of skate of america when they knew she pulled out last week-tuesday or wednesday.
==let everyone know through media that it is kimmie, emily, alissa fault that the us girls aren't up there, they have skated or got scores they was suppose to,
--- let everyone know the us youngsters aren't ready.
it is the handling of the affair by sasha and usfsa that is bad.

you know, it would be fine if these posters stood up for every skater getting more than her fair share of heat but I'm seeing a little 'selection' going on here ;)

Seems like I'm incapable of not responding to posts on this thread...

Personally, I think it says more about the state of US Ladies and the reality that we probably won't have a medalist on the podium in Vancouver... I honestly don't remember the last time that happened. And despite CoP scores - this hard fact in a comparatively weak field of skaters during said olympic year based on GP results. A lot of hopes are laying on a group of inconsistent skaters and one whose so far in front that it doesn't feel natural to think she's going to win the OGM... the olympics don't work that way unless your name is Plushy or Phleps.

Sasha took on an Obi One persona despite all logic - she was the US's only hope. And her fans knew it... She was going to get her shot at being the saviour of US Ladies skating... unfortunately, she got injured along the way and now we fans of US Ladies need to root for skaters from other countries... which is fine but not necessarily speaking to the whole Nationalistic pride that comes with the Olympics and its hard on a skater's fanbase... I STILL remember feeling like someone stabbed me in the eye with a rusty, swine-flu infected fork in 1998, 2002 and again in 2006...its not fun.

But what can you do? Kick a dead horse? Take your toys home? No. You should be supportive and / or civil.

Either you're a fan or you're not. Either you want to see someone rise to the occassion or you don't. I don't spend time on GS to gloat about someone losing - a medal, a shot, a chance at greatness... where's the fun in that?!?

Granted, I have been known to start a thread or two complaining about someone winning a silver medal after stopping a program, winning a gold medal with a slide into second base and of course bad fashion... but I was wrong then and certain posters are wrong now...

fairly4: USFS did NOT go "behind the scenes" and get Sasha two GPs.

According to the ISU Grand Prix rules, any Olympic medalwinner who returns to competition is guaranteed two GP events. Shen/Zhao got two events after being away from competition for 3.5 years. Plushenko could have had two, but he just wanted one---CoR.

Kwanford: IMO, if Sasha did go to Vancouver, I doubt very much that she would be on the podium, given the state of her jumps. So she wouldn't have been any more of an asset to the US than Flatt, Wagner, Zhang, Nagasu, Czisny, etc. All Cohen would add to the precedings would be her reputation, which her performance could do nothing but damage.

C'mon Chuck - you know that if USFSA is involved it MUST be dirty and underhanded... Plus, as for her landing on podium I'm not so sure about that... if you look around at the current crop of skaters, I can see one or two or three MAJOR meltdowns looming. Sasha might fall, but I doubt she'd melt... And even if she did miss the podium, she would at least merit consideration from the judges - something the other US skaters are not going to have in their favor.

The Reputation Damaged argument is overated - I've never seriously seen anyone be damaged by attempting a return to competitive ice. Most fans are just glad to see them on the ice...

As an aside - why the angst over Emily and her last minute invite to SA? It seems that Emily would prefer to compete here vs. having to go the whole Regionals / Sectionals (or vice versa - I can never remember...) route to qualify for Nationals... if she bombs here and places low, at least she still gets a trip to Nationals for her troubles... how would it be for her to miss a trip to Nationals after her earlier successes?

Where's Sylvia with her ruthless logic to explain this rule? Oh Slyvia...Calling Sylvia

I know that and hope those claws never come looking for me.

One of the things that just make me laugh out loud is a poster here that makes statements like this whole board centers around them. How immature!!!

:laugh: I am not that bad... plus, who could come after you or Spun?? Who'd even try? That would be a battle of historic importance...

And this board does revolve around two people - Toni & Mathman! So there!

HA!!! And me the ultimate Star Wars fan...pitiful. The force must disturbed at my defense of Sasha... But I did just purchase a Yoda tree topper and matching lights for my Christmas tree!!! (at Target for my Jedi friends...)

That's a pretty mean-spirited article. I'm surprised at the Baltimore Sun publishing such puerile journalism. It comes off as something you'd read by an irate fan on a skating forum. :) If the writer, Candus Thomson, really feels that Sasha was pulling a publicity stunt, then why wouldn't have Sasha turned up for the Olympic Media Summit, where she could have gotten publicity galore?

Is the Baltimore Sun a respected paper? Because that was a nasty article. Actually, "article" seems the wrong term for it, "throwing a hissy fit" IMO would be a more appropriate description. How does the writer know that it was just a publicity stunt? Why the need to get so personally insulting? It doesn't seem that there was any research done to back up her claims. Strange.

Now, I do think that Cohen mismanaged her comeback and there might be bad judgement involved on her part. But that's just not the same as maliciously tricking people.

Thanks to such concise reporting from the Baltimore Sun I now have a better understanding about Sasha's comeback.

Apparently, this was never about skating or Olympic dreams.

I was very happy to read the heartwarming news that Sasha's lifelong dream of being the "Pepto-Bismol Girl" has been achieved.;) ::sheesh: :disagree:

More than ever I hope Sasha will be healthy enough to compete at Nationals.

Now I like Sasha and I'm glad she picked up a sponsor. But if endorsement money is growing on trees like that, why can't the other skaters get some?

Is it really Pepto-Bismol that Sasha will be endorsing? The article says she will be signing a deal with "the makers of Pepto-Bismol," Procter and Gamble.

P&G is one of the largest companies in the world (8th largest, according to Wikipedia), with an advertising budget of 3 billion dollars a year. They make more than 100 products in the health and beauty line. (One of them is Crest toothpaste -- Sasha stole the deal from its rightful spokesperson, Alissa. :) )

Good for Sasha!

Darn you mm for causing a "coffee on the keyboard " moment for me.

Hmm, no wonder P&G is also credited for the soap opera.

My goodness, look at their list of identifiable brands and it's insane how big P&G is. I mostly knew them for Pantene and Herbal Essences ;)

As a Baltimore resident, I'll say the Sun is our main newspaper. Now, I don't actually read the Sun but I think that's just a blog (i.e. someone's opinion), not an actual article. Note the web address and the page- it's not in the format of an actual newspaper article. I don't think it would be in print (but I could be wrong)

Yeah, I think it's to do with P&G (possibly) sponsoring Sasha Cohen. The Pepto-Bismol tagline seems to be yet another snitty swipe at Sasha in an article full of raging cattiness.
