Plushenko v. Abbott - Compare and Contrast

Sadly, Abbott isn't particularly charismatic and sometimes he sort of melts into the background - in a sort of "where's Wally?" or Waldo, way.

He's so thin he's almost wispy. I miss the element of power in his skating.

I'm not a Plushenko fan by a long shot and it would be a travesty if he scored higher in choreography than Abbott. But Plushenko's power is more impressive than Abbott's complexity, IMO.

It's an interesting comparison though. It makes me think that CoP is weighing unequal things as if they were equal. Maybe that's why the judges end up tweaking the PCS to get the outcome they want.

If they both skate clean i could not justify giving it to plushenko. the fact is that Abbott is almost never 100% clean, and teh question is how clean does he have to be to still come out on top.

We're talking "style" here - sure I can enjoy the "quite" inward quality to Abbott's style, but it's not a style that grabs me every single time, whereas I enjoy the excitment of Plush's more outward and confident "in your face", style, more often. Truth is, I have to be in a certain mood to fully enjoy Abbott, or he'll just end up annoying, frustrate and bore me to death - and at other times, his skating is perfetcly fine with me...like when I'm drunk because then I'm happy regardless of what they show on the ice. Now if we talk about transitions and choreography then Abbott's got the edge, whereas Plush has got the edge on the other areas of the PCs.

True, I kinda feel the same about my neighbore, because every time I see him, which is only once in a moon, I ask myself, "Hey...he's really, really good looking, how come I never pulled him?" and then he opens his mouth and I'm reminded of all the reasons why, "Ah, that's why!".

It's sort of a similar situaiton with Abbott, except there's no attraction whatsoever. I watch Abbott skate and think to myself, "Hey, he's really, really good, how come I never liked him?" and then he starts polishing the ice with his butt and the judges pulls PCS from their a** and I'm reminded of all the reasons why, "Ah, that's why!". No really, it's not the inconsistency, rather than, like I said, I have to be in a certain mood to enjoy him - drunk is a good mood to be in.

Although the title of the thread reads Plushenko v. Abbott - Compare and Contrast, seriously I don't think that Abbott could beat Evgeny.

Now in my mind there are 3 guys who I think could beat the stuffing out of Evgeny hands down.....if they had their A game on. They are listed in no particular order.

To me, I enjoy Abbott's skating. He can take me to a dreaming world where everything is so beautiful. But Plushenko's skating could grab my heart, make me hold my breath, and keep me on the edge of my seat. Which one I like better? Depends on my mood. Most of the time, I like Plushenko better.

Concerning Plush vs Abott jenny said exactly what I would say but cant express it in english.:agree:
I just finished watching all SC. My head is boiled.
Jeremy was very good, and this time paid justice to his Long, which I liked but just that. His short is a masterpiece though. But i would take Takahashi over Abbott any day, I have no idea why. When I watch a competition Takahashi comes out as a fighter athlete and I like him more. I mostly enjoyed Jeremy in exhibition. And I also liked Chan's Lp, when he doesn't jump. As a program I liked it, first half a lot, then so and so, I find it overloaded at some point and it doesn't flow but he has some cool moves, I wish all skaters were doing spread eagles in their program.

Johnny Weir, really? Honestly, I'd put Daisuke Takahashi on that list together with Lambiel and Sandhu, rather than Weir.

My favourites are Lambiel, Takahashi and Plushenko (and have been for ages) - and I really liked Sandhu too, even though he made me want to choke him.

Sometimes his skating just doesn't hold my attention, but it could be because I'm a rather impatient person. But I do agree that his choreopgraphy and transitions are miles, miles ahead of Plushenko's - Abbott certainly wins that competition, no question.

What's wrong with Evan? I don't get it. He has jumps (most of the time) he has ice presence. he has spins. I know he's not as balletic as Johnny and whatever but at least he's not a fridgebreak.

Plush skating skills and performance

Abbott choreo and transitions. And interpretation? I don't see a lot of choreo in Plush's skating so what the heck is he interpreting. I give it to Abbott.

FTR, my favorites are Lambiel and Takahashi. Also I think they are the only two who could beat Plush over all but, of course, Taka is not quite 100% yet and Lambiel? Oh and maybe Joubert..maybe.

I will say Plush has really gotten better at his spins this year because I think he knew he had to.
