Kim's representatives end Orser's coaching relationship threads merged

I don't know why Michelle let Frank. maybe it was partially a money thing. But 1 month before the olympics? she had paid him for a decade before that even when her family was skimping and saving pennies. There was certainly a conflict between them going into Salt Lake, probably the last straw of a shaky relationship that year or two. Michelle was growing independent and didn't want to be told what to do all the time anymore. Only natural really. But the timing? could have been a lot better.

1 month before the Olympics is precisely why it was important. Frank wanted more and that would be the best time to negotiate future contract. Wouldn't you want to do that at the most crucial time? Oh well, instead, we have the worst OGMist in history. The Russian judge correctly put the OGMist in 10th place in technical after the SP.

Well, I don't think this was the case, if you take seriously what Yu-Na wrote in her letter that "how perplexed and astonished we were when the interviews started to spread on the press". Moreover, they were at the same building together. He could have talked to them directly, if email got no response. Still both of them will see each other every day.

She was in Korea. The news broke when she was staying there.

Well she stopped working with Carroll about four months before the olys, not one month. I don't think it was money, it was more growing pains and general anomie and desire for change, any change.

And Hughes was weak for an ogm, and certainly the least ... accomplished, but worst? Does the name Baiul ring any bells? And 10th was way too low (and IIRC the Russian judge ws Danilenko, a notoriously partisan judge, once disciplined by the ISU for faulty marks (how bad do you have to be for the ISU to tell you to sit out a season?)

Harsh.

But she did get lucky, no doubt, and I'm sure even she knows this. Just like Cohen in Torino.

No. Yu-Na was referring to Orser's press release a couple of days ago. She was and is in Canada.

What? you said "He could have talked to them directly, if email got no response."
I said "She was in Korea" He couldn't have talked to them directly.

When she came back to the club, it was all said and done. He was merely telling a fact that she didn't respond to any msgs.
You think Orser sent her an email when they were 2 ft apart? :)

Again, Orser might not have the authority to release the information, especially without Yuna's consensus, which I don't see how he has at this point.

Yes, Orser better watch what he says or he could get fired! ;)

Good LORD. Who are you, her marketing agent? Orser was complimenting her on the program. It's positive PR. If Yu-na's agent team freaks out over this, which I think they won't, then I really have to question their capabilities.

Breach of Emotional Trust?

I'm thinking something went down after the Olympics.

You know when you graduated from high school and say someone told you to study for college that very summer? Talk about (don't you kno how much of a hard time I just had?"

It was obvious Orser wanted Yuna to continue for her sake because she had so much potential. Yuna heard that Orser felt she should try to learn the triple axe from the media first. Mao coach incident. As benevolent as Orser may have been, Yuna may have felt he of all people should have understood.

Instead of the 2 going on to worlds, they should have taken a cruise but neither really took a genuine break. Sochi questions come up and Orser is saying he hopes Yuna will come back etc.

When Orser and Yuna didn't talk, hurt but more importantly distrust must have built up. This would align with how Yuna doesn't really have a plan yet regarding coaches, about how the problems have been there, about neglect, etc.

Why she's still working with David Wilson. Hurt and confusion on both sides and inaction bc yuna wasn't sure herself.

The really cynical people shouldn't suggest yuna chose Orser bc he's Canadian since she chose Orser bc of language barrier and bc of David Wilson. That said I wouldn't be surprised if she chose a Russian coach next but I don't that reflects at all on her motivation for picking Orser.

I honestly think trust broke down and therefore communication. Considering the emotional closeness of the relationship we cannot think in normal skating coach contract terms.

I think people are jumping to defend images that don't need to be defended so aggressively. A biased person isn't going to change his mind nor is an unbiased person w/o following their own decision making process so don't need to attack one or th other. Just will look stupid when the dust settles.

I still think both Orser and ATS could have settled this much better. Orser by omitting news of email correspondance. ATS by just shutting up for the meantime. Then again its Orser doing most of the talking and interviewing.

Sabotage from IMG? Lol I don't think so but IMG IS the agency of both Orser and Mao lol. I wonder if ATS wanted Orser to switch as a show of loyalty. Lol sorry just poking fun at this suggestion.

Edit: Ultimately stress from Vancouver did them in by not dying down. Not on the same page. Yuna was not happy with Brian airing his wishes for her to continue. Communicate the Both of you!

Edit2: Lol just read over the post again and grammar, spelling is atrocious. I'm typing with a mobile device so excuse this incompetent. ;)

^ agree. Going to worlds was foolish and she showed up unprepared and unfocused.

dlgpffps,

I don't know how you picked up just one side, but most of them in the net are actually very sympathetic with Yuna that she has to go through all these regardless of the reasons while others are not so happy with her and ATS's conducts. Even in Korea, there are people who always bash Yuna but most of them would bash anyone. So don't be bothered by them too much. Plus, naver.com is a terrible one to visit if you are interested in reading replies. I would suggest you nate.com. It's a reasonably balanced website.

I really don't understand why Brian so abruptly come out to the media and say things that are unnecessary to reveal. That is good for whom? sigh...

Keep that sarcasm to yourself.

Now, positive PR or not, don't you think it should be Yuna who decides when to let her fans know about her new program?

It was a great PR if he left off right at "It's a complete departure."

The rest, he broke the credibility with a skater. Maybe he's thinking that Yuna's not his client anymore so it's ok to disclose the information if he likes to? well, I don't know.

Here is the article from ESPN about Michelle leaving Frank.

http://espn.go.com/skating/news/2001/1023/1267912.html

Does it cover everything or tell the whole story? I guess not - but back in October, 2001 this was how it was handled and what was said to the public.

Thanks for this link, Janetfan. This article puts the matter pretty much as I remember it. I recall being tremendously dismayed--and remember this was just a month after September 11, so we were all emotionally fragile in one way or another. (I'm sure I was not the only one who hoped that skating would provide an escape from what was going on in the world.) If you notice, in this article both Kwan and Carroll defended each other strenuously, which I find admirable. Not that everyone should react to everything the same way, but they both handled an awkward situation as well as could be expected.

And now back to our present event. I will always admire YuNa and Orser for the miraculous skating seasons they gave us. This Olympics was one for the history books. I wish the dirty laundry had not been aired in public, but even this messy break-up can't take away the magic of what this team did together. They're human beings. They're not always going to gleam like diamonds.

Brian Orser!!!!!

Oh, god.007 not just put his bond girl in danger, but also he exposed her secret to her enemy! (Yuna's new long program! Brian cracked the whole plan-Yuna's program- wide open) Noop, this mission is failed. He might smirk and think he accomplished this mission, but not for the bondgirl. This is totally not Jamed Bond.

Oh, Brian! Very classy interview! Please be classy to Yuna.

Yuna, let me give you an advice In your next coaching contract, make sure you put a confidentiality clause. Business world is cruel!.

Paranoid? Ha Ha. See that! http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hCJpF5v_3ApoPEf-g9WgVTDzwD0Q

I don't woant to heard yuna's music in this way. The only one who has the right to announce it is YUNA not Brian! Brian is not her coach any more. Why did he annunce her free music with out her agreement? Kwan's former coach didn't act like that. Brian shouldn't act like "teenager" and he should learn to respect Yuna.

Okay I was dripping in sarcasm. But seriously, I can't believe that this is even a discussion point. I'd like to point out that he was still her coach until Aug. 2. Chances are that David Wilson told him about the program beforehand. And there's also that obvious fact that the choreography was being done at the Cricket Club, where Brian is still the skating director.

I don't think Brian was trying to be a jerk or doing anything by revealing her program. I doubt that Yu-na will not make a big deal of this, despite all that's happened.
