Absolutely, How would anyone ever think anything else. And we are "here and now" so keeping reality "honest" is likely going to provide the best result. Of course we could take seriously that 2+2 in 30 years might equal 5, but for right now it still equals 4.
What is with this, cart before the horse, importance glorified and yet now with trying to belittle my comments it seems they are only getting more and more valid. I feel like bringing people back to reality is a aspect that is only done if the person responsible for the "reality check" is argued and not validated. Lord I know Just how Jimmy Carter felt when he gave us the bad news.

Wrong; in most schools in Tibet, children are taught in standard Mandarin once they reach secondary school, thus why more Tibetans in urban areas speak Chinese than ones in rural areas. Also, all these dialects are considered fundamentally "Chinese" since they originate from a shared culture, not necessarily Mandarin. "China" is being used here to refer to the Chinese culture, that is a group of people with a shared identity of some sort (albeit also with unique differences depending on the region).

yes, I have. but I would have to say they aren't teh norm for the rest of the states... Creole and Cajun, yes, they are definitely their own language, a mixture of French and English with a Southern accent... but in the two days I was in New Orleans (and the one night I was in Baton Rouge) I never found one of those stereotypical Cajuns... I grew up with a friend who's mama was that stereotype cajun, but she wasn't difficult to understand. The ones on TV/in the movies are.
The better argument for different dialects of English would be American English, Canadian English, Modern and Kings English... there are definite misinterpretations when trying to speak those...

Most American politicians seem to take law degrees. My impression is that in China it is common to get a degree in something like engineering, then work your way up to be in charge of big public works projects, and rise in political responsibility by that route.

@Seanibu: Okay. My issue with your wording was not dialect, but grammatical issues (BECAUSE YOU WRITE SO DARN MUCH).

If you'd written a sentence or two, I'm sure I would have understood you just fine.
My point is, I wasn't trying to attack your grammar; I wanted to comprehend what you were saying!
In my personal opinion, I don't think Michelle is without flaws (i.e. public speaking) and I don't worship her as some great being in an ancient tree. I like Michelle because she was my role model growing up as one of the few Asian-American in the spotlight. So she isn't "very important on a world level" but as you said, "She means so much to us". It's not like she can't be a source of inspiration for people (in their "world", so to speak). But I don't blame you for interpreting many of the posts here in that way.
Some of us are joking. May not seem like it, but we are. And I would think that all of us are down here on Earth most of the time. And why can't we go over-the-moon about something we love sometimes? Like right now, I am over-the-moon because this week's episode of NCIS is still online, therefore, I can still watch it.
Since this is a Michelle thread, why can't we hope for the best for her or joke that she's can change the world with a flick of her hair or something?

Example:
I misunderstood this because it was written out. After I read it out loud, regardless of what "dialect" of English you were speaking, I understood what it meant. It's similar to how people have to say things out loud to realize or process what it means. There's a difference in processing something visually versus something auditory.

I never felt attacked, but thank you - one of the things I love about this forum, even when it is attacks there is still the decorous nature of compassion so prevalent on GS - although I did really like it. It is enjoyable to me and I hope these "heated / passionate conversations" are still appreciated. As well, hope they bring more hits to GS *bow and thanks Paula!* MK is wonderus to me, and she has been for a while to a lot of people. She is headed in a great new direction in her life and I think that is the inspiration that could be.

Second meaning, having to do with planning for the future in a prudent way.
My wife is into the craft/hobby of rubber stamping. She made the picture for me from a stamped image.
