ISU Where Will Worlds BE (formerly) JAPAN QUAKE FOR WORLDS

And what did you expect her to say in her official statement, "Bite me, Speedy?"

LOL!!! i would die to read a skater sayin it!!!!

Alissas post was very nice and it is nice to listen to skaters opinion for once who are most involved in this, more than us ,the fans.

Yes , Scott Russell ! .."Hogwash".. couldn't have said it better myself. If you read back over the past week's utterances from Speedy..it's all hollow rationalization ,his reasoning just doesn't hold up and some of his references to skaters are extremely dismissive.

So what if the skaters may be injured , over trained , miss their peak in the interim ?.. It's just a "lottery" anyway , according to Speedy. In other words all the plans ,training , struggling through injury ,sacrificing family and social life, the choreography ,paying for expensive costumes, etc....all that dedication..reduced by Speedy to mere chance.

Why listen to what the skaters want ( when they say what would be best for them ), many of them are minors anyway.:eek: Can any of us be blamed for thinking he spells the respect he's so quick to cite , RE$$PECT ? Not something you can bank on, something you take to the bank.

Somebody has to say "Hogwash!" for the skaters who can't say "Bite me, Speedy." Now at least one of them, @charlieawhite, has spoken up, with a link:

Logical and conscientious blog from cbc's Scott Russell on Worlds situation. Couldn't agree more - http://tinyurl.com/4myrmfh

Scott's blog has gotten 284 thumbs up already. So please go click on "Recommend" as a support and sort of a petition.

I sympathize with the difficulties faced by JSF. In fact, this was going to be my only international skating event this season and I was looking forward to go and I know they would have an absolutely fantastic event.

With that said, it's time for the JSF to quit. There is no guarantee that Japan would be ready to host the World Championship even in October. It may take several months for this situation to come back to normal. Denying the skaters a chance to compete in a World Championship is unfair to all the stakeholders concerned and a great disservice to the fans, whose support are critical to this sport.

Since there are several countries who are willing to host an emergency event, the ISU needs to work with those members and get something done quickly. Russia seems to be the most serious of all of them and with the backing of the Russian Government, nothing works as fast or as effectively as the guarantee of a major authoritarian State. Speaking from experience, trying to get a Russian visa on an American passport can be very difficult and very prolonged process. Though, with the backing of their Government, it would seem they would also be willing to fast track these applications given the circumstances - same things cannot be said about people who need visa to come to the U.S.

As for Didier Gailhaguet's deeply compassionate offer :rolleye: to give up the 2012 slot to Japan so that Nice, France gets to have the 2013 World Championship instead of Canada - :sheesh: I think Gailhaguet is the type who will attempt to price gauge (food and water and basic necessities) to the victims of earthquake and tsunami if he can get away with it. :rolleye:

LOL, now Alice has added her thoughts! ;) :D Hmm, still awaiting the Mad Hatter to make his almighty decision, whilst his companion the March Hare sits by his side, now where's the dormouse, fast asleep I s'pose.

And where is the "Off With His Head!" from the Queen when we need it?

loved Alissa's response! if enough skaters, judges, and fans speak out, that will have to have an impact on ISU, right?

I think the ISU is more directly subject to pressure from its member federations that make up and fund the ISU, however member federations are influenced by all the groups of people you listed. The skaters are directly connected to the federations and their success and well being are part of any federation. We've already heard a few federation heads speak out in favor of relocating Worlds ASAP because they're worried about their skaters. Judges are part of the federations. And fan concerns factor in too, even if the federations don't normally care what the fans want any outpouring of fan support for relocating Worlds can be used as ammunition in their efforts to lobby the ISU.

JSF told me on the phone that they are receiving a huge amount of "C.C." emails which their main address is to the ISU, from fans all over the world saying NAY to "September/October".

Also the lady on the phone told me that the notion of "5 months time span"(*), the evaluation of the JSF's answers to the ISU's inquiry, and the dicision among possible options, they all belong to the ISU not the JSF. (* Plz refer my post #324 on page 22.)

I asked the lady to pass my opinion to those in responsibility that such passive attitude of the JSF causes misunderstandings, and that the JSF should speak out on its own, especially in terms of their concern toward the participating skaters and their goodwill if any toward this sport.

She seemed IMO rather happy to hear it (she thanked me) and told me she'll pass it on.

I'm so glad you had the opportunity to talk to someone from the federation and make your views (and the interest of fans in general) known to her. I think any personal statement of support must be meaningful to Japanese skating folk at this time. Isn't it great that we can have some connection with them and give them person-to-person support. Thanks for the news.

Just opened the petition site and there are the last 5 signatures, in the middle of them...Nikita Katsalapov:biggrin:
