There are 8 countries bidding to host. This speaks well of the goodwill of the member federations, or the desirability of hosting the Event, or both.
Do you know which 8 countries/federations are offering to host?

"Offering to host" is not the same as submitting an official bid.

Now the ISU has a bigger problem, the locality, timing, legalties, skaters.
How many skaters will go? and will we lose the bigger names to shows?, can they get out of the agreement
It's a mess
This is when the ISU should step in, amateurs should not do shows and be loyal to ISU, if they want to do shows, they should turn pro and give up their status:scowl:
Agreed. Hernando, there was massive amounts of speculation about Canada, Italy, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, S. Korea, China, Finland and Russia.
Bin Yao ruled out China: no possibility of profit. Skate Canada ruled out Canada instantly: David Dore (the guy who helmed the Vancouver Worlds) said that it would be too difficult and the SC CEO made it clear that Canada wouldn't be giving up the 2013 Worlds (money's already been spent towards it, etc).
Sweden and Switzerland were never really on the table; nor was Germany or S. Korea. The individual federations of the countries came out and said they weren't familiar with any bids and weren't going to submit any. Italy was out because Cinquatta felt it would look like favouritism to award Italy two seasons in a row (which I have to admit is rather ironic).
So it's down to the USA (Lake Placid or Colorado Springs), Finland (late breaker) or Russia. Each has their advantages/disadvantages.
Finnice on FSU said:1, Available dates during April/May starting, if possible, with the week of April 2011 onwards
2. Available ice rink/ arena with minimum 8000 seats available from Thursday early morning through Sunday late evening (so 11 days)
3. Availability of practice rink from Friday early morning through Friday late evening of the following week.
4. Availability of about 700 hotel rooms.[
5. A TV production for the entire event and availability of the signal free of charge to ISU and its TV right holders.
ISU president Ottavio Cinquanta told The Associated Press on Monday that he has asked members capable of hosting the world championships in late April or early May to send in their offers by Tuesday, and the ISU council will then vote Wednesday or Thursday.
Cinquanta said he is hoping to have "at least three or four" candidates, and "possibly as many as seven or eight."
"We'll see what comes in and then we hope to have an announcement by Friday," he said. "We're trying to move as quickly as possible. We gave Japan as much time as we could, but unfortunately the situation there is very serious and we've had to move on. But our thoughts are still with Japan."
So add the U.S. to the "will bid" list.*Those interested in taking over the event must meet several key conditions, including:
1. Available dates in April or May beginning ``if possible'' with the week of April 18.
2. A main arena with a MINIMUM of 8,000 seats. That would apparently rule out one of the two arenas U.S. Figure Skating proposed (Lake Placid) when it wrote the ISU last week to express interest in the possibility of taking over the event. The other proposed site, Colorado Springs, barely meets the minimum.
I learned from USFS this morning that they are aware of the minimum but intend to stick with the option of both sites and will submit the formal application by Tuesday.
3. 700 hotel rooms, which would possibility rule out either U.S. site, although U.S. Figure Skating would have covered some of the housing with dormitory rooms at the U.S. Olympic training centers in Lake Placid and Colorado Springs.
4. And, the big ticket ($2 million?) item, putting up the TV production and signal ``free of charge'' to the ISU and its TV rights holders.
Thank you Sylvia and MM regarding the makeup of the ISU Council. Apparently with their power, we will not get a Worlds next week as so many TV fans want. Sad for those fans who need a quick fix. There is nothing to do until the Council makes an announcement through Cinquanta. Also it appears that Bidding has to be submitted to the Council and not just an intent to hold the competition.ISU Council members are listed on this page: http://www.isu.org/vsite/vcontent/p...161657-178872-20148-73966-custom-item,00.html
They appear to have more power these days and can make certain decisions without going through the voting of the ISU Congress (held every 2 years).
Unless some poster knows more about the countries who have submitted a Bid to hold the Worlds 2011, we are sure there is Russia and Finland. Any other BIDS, not just willingness without a Bid would be appreciated. Then the BIDs have to be reviewed by the Council and a selection will be made. Have no idea how much time that takes.
(that normally happens in olympic year, previous olympic nation host)
I think it should got to Europe, I am fed up with it going to either North America or Asia.
So come on Russia, Malmo, Helsinki, Lausanne you can do it
Sorry I know it was in Torino last year(that normally happens in olympic year, previous olympic nation host)
But 2010 Olympics Canada
2009 Worlds USA
2007 Tokyo
We only had 2008 thanks to Gothenberg![]()
*Both the United States and Russia are expected to submit formal applications to take over the 2011 World Championships. Both countries have time-consuming entry visa procedures under normal conditions.
``In case one of these two countries is chosen, of course it would be of paramount importance they guarantee to provide visas in due time,'' Cinquanta said.
USFS spokesperson Scottie Bibb said in a Monday email ``we have been in contact (with the State Department on the visa issue). They are aware of the possibilities and will assist as necessary.''
Yes hernando but would have been once in five years from 2007 if Japan hosted in 2011, i did not realise Nice was hosting next year, I assumed it was going to Korea?
1. The new site will not be in Asia.
``We cannot do the event in China or Taiwan or (South) Korea,'' Cinquanta said. ``It would be a slap in the face to the Japanese.''
