2011-2012 Program Stuff

K/S new SP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bycMOYi8n4&feature=related

Looks like a Mao Asada program circa 2010. That triple loop throw is impressive, very fast. Choreography is quite good, step sequence is good but a bit slow at the end. Good transition. If skated well, should put them in contention for gold after the SP.

I agree; it's really a great program for them. It reminds me of their "Blues" exhibition they did at Euros 2010. It suits their style really well. I just wish they would up their difficulty like doing a triple flip, I have seen them do double flips easily so I can't imaging a triple would be that tough if they can do triples with the other jumps. The toe pick assistance would really get her higher.

Also, I hope they change their long and add in a 3T+3T seq or a 2A+3T, I know in some cases it would add only .50 but in other cases it would add a couple of points.

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix that ugly death spiral, it looks so weird and usually they do the FiDs so well.

They still have 8 weeks to get it together and I guess both just got over a cold.

Did Morozov choose the music for both programs? (ye gods!) Black Swan/Swan Lake is not quite as fabulous as it could have been, given the talent level of the skaters in question. I really don't know how to feel about the Evanescence program. I think it has some potential....but it's EVANESCENCE. :disapp:

Seriously?! But Lori just used the music for Joannie 2 or 3 seasons ago! You would think Lori would go outside the box at least a teeny bit given that Chan is her premier client. :disapp:

Lori is a big dissapointment for me lately and so is Patrick. I was already pissed after he stuck with POTO now this one. As the newly crowned WC I am expecting him to be more original, but he just picks all sort of old warhorrses. But I am sure Lori is the main culprit.

It may be done to death but I'm sure the judges will love his aranjuez choreographed by Lori and so will I since I just love this music. I look forward to see his interpretation of it. I didn't like Joannie's version too much though.

Don't blame the store for what sells. The guy has a world title to defend.

I wouldn't be that sure. The way you like this choice and I don't, there is a chance that some judges would feel like you, others like me.
I am one of those fans, who after watching this sport for 4 decades by now, I would like to see programs done to new pieces of music more often than not. Seriously, if the leaders of the sport don't take chances, so how do you expect the newbies to be more risk takers?
Patrick hasn't come up with anything new since his great SP from 2009, as far as musical choices. That is still my favorite program he's had up to now. I am getting bored.

I disagree. Patrick is the reigning world champion with record-smashing scores. His scores and victories last season basically have established that he is going to win competitions as long as he skates anywhere near half-decently (e.g. he can still win competitions despite falling four times). He is very clearly the leader of the men's field. Of all the skaters in the world right now, surely it would be safe for him to go outside the box a bit and experiment with different styles and music. It's not like the warhorse programs he's doing for the past while are like programs for the ages or anything--he certainly skated to PotO superbly at Canadian Nationals, but choreographically I didn't feel it was anything spectacular. I don't mean that Patrick has to go all Ilia Klimkin and be totally bizarre, but why not look to someone like Jeffrey Buttle as an example and choose some unique music and really develop his musicality and performance ability, two areas that seem to be Patrick's weaknesses?

Personally, I don't blame Patrick. Skaters who are extremely well-versed in music are fairly uncommon. But I do think it's laziness on Lori Nichol's part to constantly recycle the same few musical choices she's been using for the past few years. When Lori was working with Michelle Kwan, she was openly proud of the fact she worked hard to choose pieces of music that nobody else had skated to before and create something new for Michelle. Now, it's just the same old, same old. Off the top of my head--Aranjuez for Joannie for 08-09 and for Patrick in 11-12, Firebird for Evan 09-10 and Rachael in 11-12, Memoirs of a Geisha for Carolina in 06-07 and Mirai in 10-11, Galicia Flamenco for Kimmie in 06-07 and Carolina in 10-11.....and the list goes on.

Well, most competing skaters haven't lived anywhere near 4 decades and they may be connecting to and appreciating some great music in fresh and individual ways. I don't mind seeing their fresh and individual interpretations.

Yup, Evanescence is a weird selection. Dunno about the musicality but I'm sure they can make it work. However, that throw triple twist (?) in the FS makes it clear that they do that element far better and like no one else in the business.

Rock/Blues is the style; not the song name. No one said the name of the song or artist (maybe they didn't know) both programs are choreographed by Peter Tchernyshev. Their LP doesn't need any more technical difficulty, until worlds they had the 2nd highest frees skate score, I just hope they change the choreography enough. Like taking out the 2 double axel sequences and putting in the 2 triple toe sequences or trying a 3T+2A. Other than that I just want to see them perform it injury free for a change.

Hi - don't know if anyone posted this yet but it was updated earlier this week on the FB group page and their Wikipedia to "All Alone" by Joe Satriani, the SP is here: http://youtu.be/3bycMOYi8n4

K/S has better SP than V/T
K/S has the best LP.

I hope K/S can regain their #1 status in Russia. Between the two, you can see how much work were put into K/S programs. They are interesting, intricate, and very difficult. Too bad their throw and solo jumps don't match up. Another odd detail is their lutz twist isn't as high and impressive as V/T. Yuko is tiny, rotates very fast, and Sasha looks bigger than emo Max. Why is their twist SOOOOO crashy?

You are correct in your assessment re: K/S' and V/T's programs. K/S (particularly their LP) have choreographically superior programs.

However, I really don't see K/S regaining their #1 status in Russia unless V/T crash and burn hard. Frankly, the writing was on the wall for K/S at Worlds in Moscow, if not by last Russian Nationals. Both international and domestic judges have given higher PCS scores--even in CH and IN--to V/T despite the fact that their programs were basically crossovers-big element-crossovers for the most part. Despite the fact that V/T still looked quite a bit like 2 single skaters on the ice. Despite the fact that last year K/S also had superior programs. And now V/T are the reigning World silver medalists in the first year together, a higher placement than K/S have ever achieved.

As long as V/T maintain their big tricks, no matter how sparse their programs may be and how intricate and interesting K/S' programs are, I think it's clear that V/T will be Russia's #1.

Yep. Though I think what evangeline said is also true.

Ditto from me on this. K/S do not project well together on the ice. Period. It is a problem with their lines in the first place. Most of all, their skate looks awkward and forced instead of being smooth.

I like K/S and their program but I agree with your point, I think physical mismatch is one of the factor. And Yuko and Sasha skating style is quite different from each other. For example, thier new SP, I think it suit sasha much more than Yuko. Yuko look awkward and don't really have fun with the music as suppose to be.

Anyway, I hope Yuko could gain some more weight, she is so skinny and it make her skate look powerless.

From the new GS interview with him, Konstantin Menshov reveals him program :
is a mix of fast music from Black Machine and Kill Bill with an unexpected part of Clair de Lune enhanced by bird’s twittering in the middle.

He is a motorcycle racer-the Clair de Lune with birds is a break from racing when he is in the countryside.

Oh, help ! ( I can't bear these convoluted stories... ):disapp:

As for K/S vs. V/T...I was just bewailing the situation with my sister the other night, wishing V/T had gone to Tchernyshev for choreography, too.... I so dislike the Morozov direction they've taken, and I feel robbed , darn it !

I've not been a big Yuko fan over the years ( though I've given her credit ) but loved their programs last yr.. OTOH , I have been a big Volosozhar fan , and was so thrilled even from the first photos of her and Trankov together. But these latest videos of this yrs programs ( and costumes ) just leave me shaking my head.
