While Kristi's is no doubt the best in terms of technical difficulty combined with artistry, I think this program is the best performance, musically speaking, of The Blue Danube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrR6nOXaXgA&list=FLT2IFgeponCwsOmaGDVXmoQ&index=26&feature=plpp_video

Jenaj, Kristi's skating as a pro was beautiful and so much better than amateur days where she was mostly bouncy and a good jumper but very lacking in style, grace, mediocre elements. Kristi was at her best 6-10 years after her OGM and she kept a high tech content. She was peerless as a pro in SOI, with the exception of Tara who was so mature at 19.

But you might as well retire every piece of music Janet Lynn skated to. Only John Curry or Toller Cranston could compete with her other worldly essence and purity and flow. Her command of the ice was not seen in other women of her era. She was so different, so much better at edges, flow, beautiful basics. Only Dorothy Hamil with her perfect back could keep you glued just watching her stroke around the rink. There is one MK program, well maybe two that compete with Janet. Lyra Angelica was MK at her purest and most inspired skating. While a more powerful MK emerges in Tosca, the young Michelle hit her peak in 97-98 with this program.I think Michelle hit her artistic peak at 17. A couple different East of Eden performances from this era evoke the magical Michelle. It is clear she emulated Janet and had that joy on the ice. To think Janet had three boys and came back after 5 years and could still skate so exquisitely.

I think no one will ever match Janet Lynn's interpretation of Afternoon of a Faun or Blue Danube, but there is always hope. I can't imagine anyone ever skating to Lyra Angelica. It should be retired. OT but I wish Laurie Nichol were searching out new and unused peices for Mirai. Her musicality is not being tapped this season.

Blues for Klook - Daisuke Takahashi

TV and CP screens don't do any justice to this performance. It is one of the skatings you shoud see live. Cameras follow his moves on the ice, but from stands you can see how he moves across the ice and how he commands the ice and owns the arena. You can see how majestic and charismatic his moves are. Last off season he took ballet lessons and went to Schonfelder to learn skating. He worked a lot to improve. However, you can't see anything he learned in the way he interprets this music. All you can see is he feels the music with his soul and just delivers it to the audience. IMO no one else, only Daisuke can make this music sound so charming and attractive.

How long was Tara a pro? I don't know but I just never saw Tara on Kristi's level as a pro. I think Kristi had the best pro career overall.

Tara skated with SOI from Spring 1998 to Spring/summer 2002. Kristi skated for 10 years with SOI + continued with a couple of additional Kristi Family and Friends shows during and post SOI.

Kristi skated pairs at senior level from 1986 - 1990 and ladies' singles senior level from 1988 -1992. Tara skated senior level from 1996 to 1998 - relatively short senior level.

I meant pro career, wasn't counting their amatuer career. didn't think that was teh issue...

as much as I loved watching Tara as a pro, I don't think she held a candle to Kristi. Not just in longevity but in the span/variety of pieces. Yes, partially due to her relatively short time skating, but most of Tara's pieces were to trendy music and very much her generation type stuff. Kristi continued to explore the possibilities. She too skated to Brittany Spears, but she also skated Madame Butterfly. She pushed herself to go beyond what she knew... Tara, too, had a growth, but she didn't match Yama. She didn't have enough time. I don't need to watch Tara on Youtube, I watched it as it was happening and have many of them on tape. I'm not a newbie to the sport, and I'm not completely stuck in the past, either. I just don't see them as equals IN THAT WAY. Both brought their best to the table. Injury kept one of them from longevity, which would have pushed her to create and recreate herself time and again.

I just included the info on their senior careers as an additonal illustration of the brevity of Tara's skating career both at senior and pro level.

I also agree that Tara (IMHO) didn't come close to Kristi as a pro. I just think she lacked the maturity to perform some of the nuances that Kristi was able to capture. When I saw Tara skate to non pop music, I didn't feel connected to her.

The Lark Ascending by Ralph V Williams:

This is my favorite Yu-Na program. A lot of choreography, and it's too bad she couldn't once do a clean skate out of it. Her entrance to the donut spin out of the inverted camel is the prettiest entry into a donut spin I've seen.

I don't know who else used that music, except Angela Nikodinov in 1999:

I agree this is her best program from "young yuna" Its lovely, she is so pure in this. It is hard to pick favorites with yuna as she did so well for 4 years. She is doing good work, am proud of Yuna the person more than skater.

Their Carmina Burana and Flamenco OD are my ultimate favorite. IIRC, wasn't their CB at the Worlds kind of shaky because of the pressure, though? Lambiel's and theirs are the best interpretation of Flamenco for me.
