Men Free Skating - 2013 Trophée Eric Bompard

No 10s in skating skills? I mean, it sounds silly to complain about "only" getting 9.57 but I thought he'd have deserved at least one 10...

It's very bizarre how SS is his second lowest PCS given it's his biggest strength by far.

Not surprising though given the usual automaton judging.

Pls plushy and Lysacek do consider coming back.

Plushenko is back.

Great skate by Patrick! The only thing I think he can do to improve is to tack on a 3T to his 3F instead of the 2T.

Perfect score?
It's going to have a 4 axel - 4 axel combination, right? The max PCS is 100 but tech can go way way way higher.

I noticed that Patrick received level 3 for some of his spins. I can't believe he can still improve his technical scores.

For Chan, there's room on improvement in terms of spin levels and also in GOE on some of the jumps + spins.

If he changes that last Axel into a triple...

He can't do that due to the Zayak rule. Patrick's layout is pretty much maximized to his strengths. He could replace the second lutz with a second triple axel, but his lutz is a much better jump for him than the triple axel.

He got 1s and two level 3s. There's room to go higher! Go Patrick!

That level 1 is a choreographic step sequence..you can't get a higher level on that element.

But yes, there is room!

I was most impressed by the speed at which he executed technical elements. He does nothing for me, there is no affect, impression. It is difficult to explain. He was good but in my eyes not great.

Also, two for two disciplines for U.S. contingent medaling. :) Go Ashley, later!!

If he changes that last Axel into a triple...

In terms of points, yes, repeating both the 4T and the 3A will net him more. However, I'm fine with him doing two 4T and just one 3A (given his past problems with the 3A). It's still one of the most technically demanding programs anyone is doing. It's more the presentation, for me, that he has to refine and make bigger. He's doing decent movement, but it needs... more, in both highlight and breath.

Sometimes it feels weird because if a skater doesn't have a lot of control on the landing, half-loop can enable them to hide that to an extent. Chan's 3lutz in that sequence was very solid and well-balanced on the landing, though.
I guess that was what I have fallen for. The loop was a bit "hasty" for my taste, but the judges gave their thumbs-up anyway.

I'm becoming a Chan fan. I love how he is doing the ultimate COP program. Everything he does can be counted toward points. And by that, he achieves the perfect 10s in the Interpretation and Execution of the soul of COP. I'm not even being sarcastic. I absolutely admire a good sportsman when I see one.
