Why is mao mentioned so much in this thread you know you can prove your points without draging other skaters into it. Julia was great she won sp, if you a Julia fan should be happy what does that have to do with Mao.

No I wasn't watching last week unfortunately. I no longer consider Sotnikova a baby... As for Pogo, she looks like she has very big jumps indeed. Call me a stickler for the old timers like Yu-Na and Mao, I just get a sense of ease when I see them jump (well, when Mao is on anyway) compared to the Russians.

But then we can go on the next level and say that the female skaters today don't have the ease of jumping that someone like Midori Ito had. By the way, I don't think that Mao Asada has such ease - She's done some borderline underrotations rather frequently, for instance. I think that all of Lipnitskaia's jumps look effortless apart from her axel and I actually preferred her choreography over Kostner's. I dislike this program for Kostner.

When Mao was 16-18 she was a little jumping bean. Her jumps were big and she skated with abandon. I think when she started 2nd guessing her lutz she lost some of that spark, but I think it's coming back. In my humble opinion, I prefer skaters who skate BIG and jump BIG. A jump is not simply a little pop with fast revolutions.

Julia is a real senior lady now, maybe a little young but she is skating with great confidence. For jumps, her 3Lz+3t has really good height considering her body type. She had a worse double axel in the previous years, now it looks decent with good transitions before and afterwards.
It looks like Julia skating this much perfect and getting these high scores make people worry a lot for their favorites. Noone can say Julia is a better skater than Caro, Mao or Yuna. Or even Adelina, Anna, Liza.. But it's obvious that she is the best spinner in the current ladies field, fastest spins with stable positions, great elasticity. Also she has much better nerves than many others. She is determined to do her job perfect, and she has been doing so far this season. That's why she is being rewarded by judges. All we should do is congratulate and clap this young lady.
Being so young helps her on strength and elasticity side, but it's also a disadvantage for experience and presentation. Julia is overcoming these disadvantages very well. She is improving on the presentation side. Anyone will accept that Caro has much better steps and flow on the ice. But today she was a bit buried on the technical side by Julia, that's why I think her PCS is not so much higher than her. Still big congratulations to Carolina, I enjoyed her program here. Much better than COC. She presented very well with her usual self confidence. And she has shown that she will get more stable jumps as Olympics are approaching. Many said she is not in the mix for olympic medal anymore, she has proven the opposite here. Well done.

So basically she needs to win! If she scores anywhere near 134 She wins this competition, question is can she?
She might not. Julia can score 131+ as she did in Skate Canada and take the gold easily.
Julia has scored 131 at SC and chances are she could do even better on home turf. So 134 for Caro will probably not be enough.

Not really. Lipnitskaia already scored 131.34 in her last FS and with the same score, even if Kostner scores around 135, Lipnitskaia would still win the competition. This is why I believe that the point tiebreaker will be most important for Kostner, because I cannot see her actually winning this without a score like that(total something like 202.36+ is something Lipnitskaia will achieve with just a 130 point FS). Of course, that is assuming that Lipnitskaia doesn't fail her FS but that's not been the trend and even with one failed element, she could probably still score over 130.

I actually started to like Julia this season, but her PCS are crap. She shouldn't be able to get anywhere near a visibly clean Kostner. She rightfully won the TES, she rightfully leads, but no way in heaven or hell or even in Russia should it be a nearly 5 point difference (and I'm not even liking Caros program
)

Note you're comparing half a line with an approximation and multiple lines with accurate numbers that needed to be looked up.
I really hope that Julia can skate clean. 133 is a very low estimation by you here. I would say that she should score around 142 assuming she has actually improved legitly as well.
