whats the reputation and history on this one?

Higashino & Gordon-Poltarek were both at NHK this year.

Higashino was the Technical Specialist there. Gordon-Poltorak was the referee, and is the head of the ice dance technical committee, AFAIR. I don't recognize the name of the Asst. Specialist, Tumanovskaya, but she did the GPF in 2006, so she's been around for a while.

Alpern was the tech controller at CoR.

Not a good news for Asada, Wagner and Sotnikova. I don't think Amano going to call Asada's single looking loops as 2lo or Wagner and Sotnikova's cheated 3+3's. Lipniskaia's borderline flutz can be a problem for her too.

Amano itself is not a bad news for Mao. When he was the TS, almost always Japanese skaters had won (at least10 times in the past, incl. last year's GPF). The most recent case is Skate America men's. The only exception (I remember) is 2012 worlds ladies.

It does look good for Bobrova/Soloviev. :scowl:

Maria Tumanovskaya is known Ukrainian Ice Dance coach.
She is coach of Maria NOSULIA / Evgeni KHOLONIUK (8th place at JrWorlds 2012).

Than that might be good for Nazarova & Nikitin in juniors.. (since the same panels go for both senior & junior events.)

Not assuming or charging automatic nationality based biases but for the generally advisable practice of avoiding the appearance of such possibilities, I observe the following:

1. JPN members on the Men and Ladies panels

2. USA member on the Ladies panel

3. Total of 3 tech panelists from each of JPN and USA (only one each from other nations including CAN, except for 2 from FIN) :

4. Complete absence of RUS tech panelist.

It's a shame that we even have these long discussions about who the panel is and how it could affect the outcome. The truth is that it does matter, but it is still sad.

I seriously question the usefulness of a Japanese Technical Specialist in the women's event when the Top skater is Mao Asada who already in her last competition got away with some seriously questionable calls.

What seriously questionable calls were these?

Shin Amano is not known to be very friendly with the Japanese Skaters. He is usually harsh with everybody (and even overly harsh sometimes).

Given the appalling judging at COR, I'd be just as interested in hearing who the full judging panels are for the event.

No Russians when most of most events are Russian? Yeah... I wonder how this will go.
