2014 Olympics Ladies Short Program

Historical means relating to history. If you mean first time ever that is fine (just say first)but Yulia would be the FIRST 15 yr old DOUBLE gold medal winner ever. Just trying to keep things on the up and up. Nobody has won back to back golds in 30 years. Relating to history this would be a historical event. Maybe not the first but historical none the less in that in 4 yrs if Yulia has a chance to get back to back gold medals we will revisit the historical value it holds since the greatest skater of the era, maybe ever, didn't do it. That might be a bit cheeky to you especially since I think Yuna will win but why not see things from every angle possible right. Harder to be caught off guard that way.

I think Lipinski was younger than Lipnitskaya when she won gold in Nagano. There are already two 2 time Olympic gold mendalis in ladies discipline. They are not so "historical" compared to the first ever "8 triples".

Either you're just trolling or not fully reading what is being posted.

One last attempt and I'll reword it in case your not just trolling......

Yulia - could be the first 15yr old to hold two gold medals while being the age of 15.
(Team and Individual)

"The best way to understand the world is to see it thru the eyes of your adversaries"

Julia would be the first lady to win 2 golds in one Olypics, due to the team event (I guess that's what Sam already meant above), which is a historical and great achievement! I'd take 8 triples in one LP as "more" historical though. :)

I don't think that's anything appealing except for the Russians. It's more like "national" rather than "historical". At least, the Guiness book won't acknowledge such a "record".

I think this statement is not something to be proud about.. especially with all the rumors and inflations! dont you think?

Yes, but that's just people annoyed that someone talented is upsetting what they thought would be the status quo. I mean, seriously? PCS can rise during a season when the skating calls for it. Mao 2012 GP, PCS=64, a few weeks later Mao=69. Yulia's PCS at SC was too low for the skating quality she had even then. 60.88 should have been at least 62-63, when compared to Mao receiving 71 at Skate America. Yulia started performing better COR, 64, even with the mistakes her IN and CH were much better. At GPF, you could tell that she was remembering the mistakes in her jumps at COR because she was much more tentative, though I still would have had her at 62 rather than 60.xx Yulia's gives skates that are miles better at Europeans and then the team event 68, 69. As long as Yuna, Mao and Caro receive 74, 73, 73 respectively for their deserving performances (I don't mean if for what ever reason they skate badly), then I won't be upset.

With regards to Gracie's scoring in the team event, since it was the placements that mattered and not the score it didn't bother me that she did not receive 62, 63 the way I thought she should have. If, however, she receives lower than 62 for a similar skate in the individual then I will have problems with how she was marked, not with how Yulia was marked.

I for one hope Mao does it. I agree about the 8 triples being a better accomplishment for the sport than just being a particular age. Both are impressive though and worthy of respect to me.

Nothing wrong with showing respect though is there?

True - yulia will be the youngest to ever won OGM she is several months younger than lipinski
True - Two OGM by a 15 yr old
this could be written in the guinness book of records
False - everything about the back to back because its already been done

What is more important for me and I believe most of the figure skating fans is
1.) landing 3 3xel in a Olympic competition by a woman
2.) 6 different triples (a.K.a 8 triples in FS)

I believe these two are more important because it is not ONLY an achievement for the skater but ALSO a GREAT contribution to the Ladies figure skating that will open a GATE to push the ladies event not only artistically but most importantly in the TECHNICAL field

it will be sad if in a year from now where all of the men's junior skaters are flying with their quadruple jumps and the ladies seniors will still be stucked with double axels and incomplete varieties of triple jumps.

Out of subject: I hate writing a message and then losing all the text because of a time violation. I wonder how many seconds are allowed for quick reply? What crime did I do?

Mao has been landing triple axels since 2004-5 JGPF, but the technical field has not been changed. This means her jump did not affect other senior ladies. I mean, some seniors were doing 2A-2T combination during 2011-12 :disapp:
Don't forget, Mao did land 1 3A in SP and 2 3A in LP at the 2010 Olympics, but she only landed three different triples in her LP (3A, 3Lo, 3F). Sure 3A is praiseworthy but having only 3 triples to win OSM? Not so much.

Kim's "quality of jumps" would deteriorate suddenly once the judges decided to favor someone else. The highest TES will win the gold medal, even Hanyu is not an exception. BVs are more reliable. You can't beat the home favorite who has the higher technical content and suprior spins depending only on the judges favors.

:disagree: :disagree: :disagree:

Anyone know how I can safely view the women's short program on line? I am a cable subscriber but since Charter just bought out our cable company I can not stream through NBC.

A bunch of non-geoblocked BBC links are usually posted as the competition begins. Just keep your eye on the forum!

Kostner is not going to score a 70. She doesn't have the content and she makes way too many mistakes. I don't know why so many people think Kostner and Akiko are in contention for the gold let alone the podium.

please stop trolling and read from the beginning of the thread regarding the historical conversations.. posters like yourself are just ...whatever

NBCSN

there will also be a few streams on gofirstrow, just scroll down (the day of the event) to figure skating, it should be listed there

Yuna has watered down her content. Have you seen her most recent practices? Her spins aren't level 4 and she isn't doing complete run threws. Is she injured or is she playing it safe and losing steam? I hope not!

She's doing the bare minimum because she knows that if she skates clean the gold is hers.

WRONG! Historical meant the first ..lipinski was 15 and Witt already did the back to back so there nothing more historical with your claim its been done already!

We'll Yulia would be the first 15 yo with TWO gold medals :)
