2014 Olympics Ladies Short Program

Panini, I'm sorry, my first language isn't English and I probably mixed some words. What I meant is Yuna's skate is smooth and technical but I think that isn't enough to easily win right now. I meant no disrespect. It's just my opinion. You don't need to be so aggressive.

Meoima, exactly! I'm not saying that Yuna is bad or something, just her SP didn't impress me that much.

Artistry, thanks for the back up:)

Julia's coaches now have to slap her out of her funk and wake her up to the fact that she is in medal contention with hugely competitive FS in her arsenal.

I don't think she'll need help. She always skates clean after a bad short. If she falls in the long I will be shock out of my mind.

I agree that Carolina, as much as I love to watch her, has limped hrough her long this season. I don´t understand Sotnokova´s placement. Lot´s of dramatic posturing but were those really level 4 spins and footwork? I find her skating a little unrefined - I´m not talking femy here - just a little corse for an Olympic metalist. Gold will skate well. But, she needs more time to be at the top level. only time will tell if she really wants that. One thing i learned from Davis and White is that today you have to have 1. the intelligence to understand such fine nuance in style and execution 2. the detail orientation to go through it. A lot of remarkable people just can´t deal with the tediousness of months spent on infintesimal changes.

To be sure I'd watch Adelina anytime over Yulia. I have maintained this opinion throughout. Adelina's skating is beautiful but Yulia's isn't. Only thing Yulia has over Adelina is her stamina. But Russia decided to prop up Yulia instead of Adelina, thinking figure skating isn't a sport where fairness must be insured, but some sort of symbol that serves their nationalism. I can't imagine the pain Adelina had to go through while Yulia was undeservedly groomed to be some sort of mascot.

But getting a higher score with that contents than Kim and Costner, when neither made any visible mistake, is another matter altogether. It only highlights the invisible hands behind. Conveniently, Yulia is still at 5th - in case Adelina falters in FS Yulia can be pushed to the podium at the least. I mean, come on..

WHat the F*** is up with your blatant anti-Kim propaganda? I see it throughout the forum
If Gold skates like Kim does, I think you would be crying injustice if she scored anything below 90 today
How old are you, 7?

1. Yuna Kim
2. Carolina Kostner
3. Adelina Sotnikova

At least the judges got that clear. Oh, or not. 2 and 3 unclear.

plas·tic
ˈplastik/

noun
1. a synthetic material made from a wide range of organic polymers such as polyethylene, PVC, nylon, etc., that can be molded into shape while soft and then set into a rigid or slightly elastic form

adjective
1. made of plastic
2. (of substances or materials) easily shaped or molded

Stop being so literal. Seriously. The original poster was trying to say Yuna's skate was emotionless. S/he already said english is not their first language. Back off.

I'm glad you didn't mean what I thought you meant. Sorry if I came across as aggressive, but the internet go-to slur/insult for South Koreans, especially females, is "plastic", and I don't think Yuna deserves to be called that.

Synonyms for plastic, used as an adjective in the way daaRia presumably intended, are: artificial, false, fake, superficial, pseudo, bogus, unnatural, insincere
Omg, do you have any common sense in your mind?
English is not my first language and i don't see what daaRia said meant insult anyway, we just meant we find her program today kind of predictable and not much joy as before. If there is any word that does not sound easy to your ears, then it's your fault for nitpicking us, we meant no harm, no insult.
We don't find her program lively and fresh, then we are the villain here? Stop quoting dictionary because we meant no harm, you were just thinking too hard.

The original poster didn't clarify her meaning until after my posts were made. I've already backed off.

Reading these posts is killing me. I'm @ work in the middle of a big deal project and haven't dared tried to watch anything b/c will get too distracted. This earning a living thing really puts a cramp on my style...

More to the point, sounds like Mao was really struggling. Such a shame -- that Chopin program is lovely and suits her perfectly. Hope the comments re: Carolina mean that she did as well w/ "Ave Maria" as she did in the Euros. She actually made me like that piece!

OK, back to the spreadsheet. :disapp:

Glad to be back and skim thru threads like the old days.
Not much changed:laugh: Lovin' the steamy discussion!!

I am so happy for Yuna but I tend to agree she was a bit tentative.
But ain't it great to be a Yuna fan that you can trust her to deliver.
Don't want to sound like a bot but Yuna has a HEART of the champion.

Over the moon for Carolina that she's finally skating to her potential in the Olympics!!
Always thought Caro's the only one I can actually take if someone's to beat Yuna.
Well, she didn't beat Yuna but I'm okay with the scores being close.:p

Happy to see Adelina doing well.
That said, I'd love to see her grow more.
Love the youthfulness but I never truly got her.

Never a fan of Mao but heartbroken for her tonight:disapp:

Well, I'm a proud Yuna uber so I hope she'll skate lights out in the FS and hopefully gets another Olympic GOLD!!!
Hope Carolina puls it together in the FS and wins a medal.

One happy camper for now!!!!:party2:

I don't think anyone needs to slap her out of a funk. She looked quite pissed off and will be coming to snatch Adelina's weave.

Well, now that we have all that clarified, I do want to say that the French and Russian meaning of “plastique” that Olympia wrote about is completely the opposite of artificial. How funny languages can be!
In my view, probably the most “plastique” today was Carolina. ;-)

No joke. It sounds like she was really upset and bummed.

The advantage of being fifteen is that until something goes wrong, you are unshakeable and don't feel the pressure, which is fine. But one of the problems with being fifteen is that if something does go wrong, it's the end of the world. The same lack of perspective that protects youngsters from being intimidated also can keep them from rising above adversity that everyone faces at some point. I hope that her coaches (and her mommy, if necessary) can remind her that in the free skate, she can start fresh and wow us all with her beautiful skating.

Sotnikova's program seemed to go on forever, and the last several minutes of it was just her spinning and lurching about the ice.
