2014 Olympics Ladies Free Skate

Polina Edmunds (USA)....FS = 122.21
Total = 183.25 (into 3rd)

I know people will jump on me for this but Polina really does remind me of Caro when she was young: all gangly limbs with real potential. It will be interesting to see how she develops, but that's an impressive senior debut.

Polina has great jumps and I hate to be rude but she looks like she's at a public skate for the in between stuff.

But I still love her!!

I don't think it is so bad but she's still kind of gawky and needs to grow into those limbs. I would never mock a prepubescent teenager (and I would have loved to have her frame when I was her age...it's better than short and squat) but it is kind of distracting during a figure skating performance. I'm waiting for the arms and legs to tangle.

3rd in the FS, 3rd overall
Mao Slayer Count: 8

The 16 - 1 placement looks very amusing on the results page. That's why I think COP is such a huge improvement over 6.0, bombing the short program doesn't take you out of the competition, it keeps the competition more interesting to say the least.

I love that German's dress but what the heck!? Once again, the dress does not match the music. That is not a Gershwin dress....

Polina will finish in 9th at lowest (Weinzierl would have to up her PB by 40+ to beat Polina now)

For a first Olympics, especially one that's a senior international debut and her second major senior competition ever (counting Nationals), that was a pretty great 2 skates.

Too many girls falling in this free skate, but I cannot even imagine the pressure these young women are facing. What a nice performance from the 15 year old Polina Edmunds. She had an unfortunate fall, but overall did a beautiful job. I think she was slightly underscored. The judging in this sport can be so frustrating!

I quite enjoyed her at this competition. I see where the the Carolina comparisons are coming from, but I'm liking her quite a bit more than I did Caro around her age (whom I found rather awkward then, although she sure isn't now). Looking forward to seeing how she develops from here.
