The Judging Controversy Thread

I actually support this. If they removed baseball from the Olympics, why should figure skating stay as a competition at the Olympics?

Why IOC would want remove it??, who would win doing this? Yuna fans?. Figure skating is one of the most, may be the most popular sport in the winter games, they are not stupid.

No, it shouldn't.

There are crybabies after every event. They are free to find a different hobby.

Having said that, many things could be improved. I would implement a higher deduction for falls. Hanyu's and Chan's results were ridiculous. That was a good suggestion from Ashley W.

You are making a critical mistake in logic. The points are irrelevant and only being given as artificial reinforcement of previously determined placements.

Yes, the figure skating should be eliminated from the Olympics if the present circumstances continue. If the situation changes and the judges start to give deserved scores to every skater, scores not based on the skater´s country or past results, figure skating could stay as the Olympic sport.

In current season the Russian skaters have gotten a bit undeserved technical scores and hugely undeserved in PCS.

They have also removed all forms of WRESTLING from the Summer Games. Wrestling! One of the most ancient of Olympic Sports, now, just .... gone.

FS should NO LONGER be an Olympic "sport" because it is not a sport. It is a reality TV show. A circus. Not serious competition like it used to be.

FS "competitions" are a scam anyways.

If you don't like the competitions, don't watch them. Why should they end competitive skating because uberfans of one skater aren't happy that she got out jumped?

Look, you're a mod here and you're calling forum users "ubers" for reacting to a judging scandal shaking the entire figure skating world. I would have expected a better way of making a point on the part of a mod.

I'm sorry but I find all of this a mere overreaction.
There is no perfect sport. Once in a while there might be things happening that we don't agree or didn't like. It's part of it.
If everytime a dubious penalty kick is signed by a referee in a soccer match the fans claim there shoudn't be the Euro Cup, the World Cup or the Champions League...

Yes. Reality television figure skating "competitions" should be removed from the Winter Olympic Games.
Yes. Figure skating shold be removed from the list of Olympic eligible sports.

I believe this is the direction this whole thing is evolving: if the sport is to be considered competitive and stay at the Olympics, then it needs to comply to every definition of a "sport". It has to be based on clearly measurable athletics and eliminate subjectivity as much as possible. Probably it means departure from "artistry", which to me is the right thing to do. I wouldn't mind, for example, elimination of ice dance completely from Olympics, thus also from ISU. I love ice dance, but the Olympics is not a place for it. It's simply not a sport, period.

Every element should be clearly scorable. The only subjectivity would come from deductions and bonuses.
Something like the way things are measured in free style skiing. There are certain points for certain elements considering difficulties and level of execution, transitions between elements, etc. Presentation would be just another element with a certain percentage of the total score, but never even close to present 50%. And again: it would has to be broken down to very definable and scorable elements too.

When did drivingmissdaisy become a GS mod? Have I missed something? :confused2:

Did you mean, why should they end competitive skating right after there is the coveted skandal at last that draws attention to the competition, two skaters are played against each other, outraged fans go bang, and corruption remains happily unnoticed in the shadows where it loves to be?

I'm afraid you're right. They shouldn't and they will not. I guess they will award Pissev and his spose.
