Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

In terms of the ice shows, I'm sure he's capitalizing on his popularity but even with expenses covered by ANA and other sponsorships, training with Orser and buying choreography from David Wilson isn't cheap (assuming he might use another piece from him next season). Let's just hope he stays strong and healthy during these ice shows and actually enjoys himself.

It doesn't matter much to him if they're cheap or not (now). What he has with ANA is not a simple sponsorship, it's an affiliation agreement: he belongs to them, that is why he's announced now as 'Yuzuru Hanyu, ANA' instead of his university or skating club as it normally is. When he signed last year, it was announced that ANA would basically pay for all of his expenses, which included not only flight tickets and reservations but also coach, choreographer, costumes, rink reservation when he's in Japan etc. So he doesn't have to worry about any of it.

By the way, I don't think training with Orser is as expensive as one might think. This is what he had to say on the subject:
“I’m the lowest paid coach at this level in the history of figure skating,” Orser said. “I get $110 an hour, and that is what I charged her. I did make something from Korean commercials, but there was no deal between us for that.”
More telling is that Javier was able to pay for all of his training expenses during the 2011/2012 season himself, and with the money he'd made that season competing internationally. His federation wasn't giving him anything because of the financial crisis in Spain. That year Wilson choreographed for him two competitive programs and an EX, and he had another EX choreographed by Buttle.

Channah, or anyone else, when you have time, can you translate or just summarize what yuruzu said on this two videos that we have posted ? As you did before.

Sports23 summary:

-The end of season, I fell somehow tired. The Olympic season is quite longer than expected.

-How do you feel to get the tripe titles? In Sochi Olympic year, if I am eighteen that might not to go as a team Japan; if I am twenty-two, the competition result might be different from now. So it is my fate to go to Sochi rather than fortuity.

-Dose your dream come true? Honestly, not yet. The Olympic is so hard, to reach the Olympic dream beyond my expection – extremely painful and difficult. Yes, I win the golden mental but I don’t clean the FP that will make me regrettable whole life. However, I can learn something for improvement from failure and it is still positive.

-You seem not to appear the weakness, don’t you? Not exactly. Negative emotion is important thing. But if you try hard to solve, it maybe add extra burden to yourself. So let negative be negative, it will be positive when negative one is over. My Olympic SP is clean which make my confidence further.

-What’s your hobby besides skating? Earphones! I prefer to listen earphones one by one. I love drum sound most and piano sound minor. I bring around nine or ten earphones to World competition.

-The next goal is PyeongChang Olympic (2018, Korea). I will do my best for every competition during upcoming four years.

Well, I guess he wouldn't have signed it if the benefits didn't outweigh the costs... still, sounds kinda harsh that he "belongs" to them :sarcasm: (do they sell those on ebay or is it more of an underhand thingy?)

You're so right! :agree: I guess I also have one in my toys collection form when I was a little child. Gotta find him and give him the right place in my room  Now he is an Olympic and World Champion
I actually have my own little collection, including several yellow bears, half of it standing right across the room  we went to Disney World about 8 years back and I kinda went batshit-nostalgia-crazy as soon as I entered any gift shop (now I'm closer to 30 than 20 and everybody thinks I lost my mind because I'm still in love with my stuffed animals  but who cares, right?! whatever keeps you young at heart)

A god's thanks for you echotpe !
This is the sentence : "But if you try hard to solve, it maybe add extra burden to yourself. So let negative be negative, it will be positive when negative one is over". ;)

Not to be alarmist, but some things are beyond anybody's control...!

Woops (at 0:27)
Near miss (at 5:20)

Anyone remember Midori Ito getting body slammed into the boards during a practice/warmup?!
Or Nan Song getting practically knocked out by Adam Rippon at CoC 2012?

PS. speaking of post-gala "extras", and Nan Song... Hanyu has been doing that stuff for years.
Here he is at 2011 CoC,

Hanyu seems to get along very well with other skaters, he has an infectious playfulness - and this is a good example of that.

Takahiko Kosuka vrs Daisuke Takahashi. I swear that Daisuke´s head hit the ice.

Good to know! I didn't know the specifics...would you mind pointing out the source?

OMG :bang: I guess things like this happen quite often. It's even painful to watch. And these are accidents, but falls happen all the time.
After seeing something like this, you appreciate even more these people who hit the ice thousands of times just to perform as well as they can for 5 minutes at the competitions.

oh goody, so if you don't kill yourself with one of those crazy falls, others might just finish the job for you  awesome

Is a scary thing, in the video YesWay posted Yuzuru was skating very slow and I guess he let himself go when the other skater (can´t tell who he is) hit him, but it was really a close call.

Is you look closely to the one between Nan Song and Rippon their heads impact because of the speed they both were skating with.

About the falls, didn´t someone mention back in the page 120 (I´m kidding) that there is a correct way to fall so that your body doesn´t absorve much of the impact?

There were loads of articles that came out when Yuzuru signed (July of 2013), and most of those are probably not online anymore. However, there are some japanese fans who collect and repost the content of the articles in their blogs. Here is one of them. Navigate to the posts from the beginning of July onwards and you'll find everything.

Thanks! So since he's not doing ice shows for financial reasons, is it just to make his fans happy? I'm sure he's super grateful for all their support and they'd be sorely disappointed if he pulled out of maybe the first few shows. And while trust BOrser squad and Yuzu's decision-making, he really deserves a holiday. Or just some time at home.

I think we should start learning Japanese!! I took some beginners lessons but I am not able to understand anything :slink: Only basic stuff...which regarding this videos,is equal to 0
