Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

Hello from a newbie fan, here. This is my first post after having read through most of these pages. Awhile ago, several of you commented that you're too old to be fangirls, so you are instead fan aunties. Well, I'm even too old for that. I guess I'm a fan grannie. I've been watching figure skating for a very long time on US TV. I'm old enough to have watched the original 1984 ice dancing performance of Bolero by Torvill and Dean! Back then, my favorite skating event was ice dancing. The jumps and spins required for competitive figure skating just seemed more like gymnastics than artistry. But times have changed. For me, Yuzuru's Olympic SP was like a wake up call. I'd only seen such figure skating artistry before that from Johnny Weir. I know it's all about aesthetics. I love the long-limbed grace, elegance, and adrogeny of Yuzuru's skating/dancing/flying. Skaters with more muscular bodies and movements just aren't as beautiful, IMO. When Yuzuru skates he does it with so much passion and abandon. No wonder he's exhausted after most of his FSs!

I'm so glad I found this forum. I'm so grateful to all of you for sharing your enthusiasm. And I'm thankful to those of you who speak/write Japanese who translate into English and post the news and links those of us in other countries can appreciate too.

Indeed,I think that's what I love the most about him...the passion and determination he skates with. I guess skating represents his whole life and world .

And Welcome! ;)

In Yuzu’s biography, he mentioned that attending many shows in off-season could keep the tension just like competitions. He could also improve the stamina as well. It's real experiences in past years.

Besides, whenever audience watch the show, they might to be touched, feel joy or sad emotions and then someone could create energy from his performance. It is the most fantastic thing of figure skating brought to audience. That’s why he works hard to make it happened.
Haven't got any chances to read his biography yet. Do they have one in English?

He last year already jumped this combination.
Hopefully this time we get video!!

My mom told me we can go to Japan or Korea after i graduate high school. maybe i can convince her to take me to a ice show then :think:

Wow, this thread really does move fast, doesn't it? Today I come with a whole lot of video links!

So I found these team japan compilations a while ago and I absolutely LOVE them so I thought I'd share with everyone here. These feel like officially made videos, does anyone know the origins of them? I've been checking that youtube channel pretty obsessively hoping for a Worlds 2014 compilation since these seem to come out every year, but so far no luck ;_;

Opening 2011 World Figure Skating Championships (no Yuzu, but still cool): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R2MaVExt9U

OMG, thanks for posting these, I haven't seen them before. So many great performances, it feels like living again those moments:)

Sure thing! They're so awesome I just had to share =D And I love all the little behind the scene clips thrown in. Though I gotta admit, the skates breaking sometimes is a scary thing o_o

well, there's me and there's..... gotta be somebody else out there, I'm sure of it :laugh:

but now that you mentioned it, of all the pages I've seen over the last few weeks I don't recall any German fanpages

Hi I am not German nationality, but I grew up in Germany; my family lived there since 14 years now. :) Also I don't know any German fan pages for Hanyu...figure skating is not so big in Germany. (mostly they just love soccer! xD). It seems so many people recently joined the forum, it is fun to see people gather here from all over world! I am a new member also, although I am not a new Hanyu fan. It made me feel so emotional to read through these pages and see so many people express love for him that he inspired them and give them some joy to watch his skating efforts. I never wanted to join a forum before because normally there always happens a lot of negative comments made and people say destructive things that are unnecessary. But this forum (or this thread for Hanyu-san) seems everyone very respectful; thank you to everyone! And special hi to Windy and Pamina from Germany :)

There was news from Hanyu on German TV though during Olympics...my mom who knows I love figure skating sent me this article, it makes me smile because he looks like maybe he is dreaming:laugh: sometimes he is in his own world : http://ard.br.de/olympia-sotschi-20...skunstlauf-herren-hanyu-olympiasieger100.html

Btw, I think I download too many stuffs of Yuzu already :bow: Videos, photoes, gifts, fanarts... Someone should teach me how to cut yuzu's parts in videos ASAP cause my harddisk is going to explode soon... (Sometimes I try to restrain myself, but because it's Yuzu, it never work :laugh: )

Hi Windy, I try to use the program smart cutter (for DV and DVB) to edit the video clips. I'm still very new at this but the program seems easy enough to edit out parts or joining different files together (I use the "add batch" feature to create my own fluff files sometimes).

Hope this helps :)

I haven't actually read German in a while and never tried reading skating terms in German. haha, our words are so long. And I didn't realize there was a German skater in competition =X

Welcome, Nomi! It's always nice to hear about Yuzuru's international fans and their love and support for him. (But out of all pictures, they had to use that one? lol)

I'm sorry but no other picture can beat this: http://troublemakerstorm.tumblr.com/image/81874077645
I'm dying :rofl::rofl::rofl:

and a very special welcome and hello back to you :party:

February 2014 was actually the first time in my life when I was really glad that German tv stations spend a "§)%load of money on sportscast :laugh: (I don't even own a tv and was so glad that I could watch everything online without any problems)

Hi Windy, I try to use the program smart cutter (for DV and DVB) to edit the video clips.
I use freemake video converter. that one is kinda foolproof (which is good for someone like me :P )
just to offer another alternative ;)

very much OT, but: just last year they eliminated the longest word German bureaucracy has ever come up with:
Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgaben-übertragungsgesetz
(there is actually no hyphen in it but without it the forum won't let me post a word that long :laugh: you have to appreciate the insanity)

Thank you Pamina!! Yes, that is one thing I miss about living in Germany; sports and sports news is very easy accessible!! :) And yes I think German has the gold medal for most ridiculous words...I love that instead of coming up with new words for something, they simply put together all the words at once, so there are words.:roll eye:

And Sajoya, thank you for the welcome too! Wow everyone finds so many amazing videos and photos:eek:

Aww, thank you! I'm very honored ^^ Yes you're true about this forum, everyone is respectful and people have such insane knowledge about skating (however, there could always be crazy bloody battles in some threads (which I find kinda scary) so I think I'll just stick to this fanfest. Sweet people have sweet fans :love:)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'll go try them now :)
