Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

Oh I agree with that. I did not realize that problem at first. But once realized it, it became somehow annoying when watching it. He should not have a problem of flexibility at all. So perhaps it is a bad habit. But again as long as it is not a problem causing negative point, I don't think he and his team will spend that much time on it. He has too many other things to worry about.
Well, Denis Ten was trained by Tarasova so of course he has better posture than most skaters out there.:) not to mention his current coach is Frank Carroll.

The thing is, Yuzuru is the opposite of Denis Ten, who is very composed and calculated in all his moves. Yuzuru is very wild and emotional, even with all the training with Brian Orser these recent years. I have to say, he is an instinctive skater.

British commentators said everything Yuzuru does seems so natural, I totally agree. Because his skills of jumping and spinning are so built-in, it looks so natural. And because he seems to do those elements base on instincts, some elements are beautiful thanks to his slender frame, there are things not so beautiful because he hasn't gotten enough time to polish them, or simply because he lacks that basic skills. Anyway I do think Tarasova and Frank Carroll have better taste when it comes to postures than Orser.

That might be the reason David Wilson's style seems so forced on Yuzuru. Because David Wilson's style is more suitable for refined skater who has lots of experience. I do hope Yuzuru will get ballet training soon. That will help him improve his postures for sure. When that time comes, I am sure we will shut up all about David Wilson.

Anyone has news about when will he come back to Canada for training?

I used to loveeeee Yuzuru's biellmann, even more than I liked his ina bauers. (I find the biellmann > ina bauer if both are done well)

The amount of pain/effort he takes to do the move has become increasingly noticeable though (or maybe I'm becoming more nitpicky), and in doing so takes away from the beauty of the spin.
=/

Thanks a lot, Maria Victoria!

Welcome Yay and please don't hesitate to ask questions :). I also learn a lot from the questions and answers posted here. Thanks also to all those who posted translations, links to videos and pictures. Much appreciated!

Lol, that is most likely never going to happen. He's said that he'll probably continue doing both till his back gives out.... :bang:

On a side note, I have a newfound appreciation and enjoyment for his R&J 2.0. I was feeling a bit reminiscent recently so I went to watch some programs from the past and I came across Cohen's 2006 LP and I have to say that I find Yuzu's interpretation of Nino's R&J superior to Cohen's.

I enjoy it as well, mostly because its usually choreographed in at the perfect timing, giving it that dramatic effect. But if not timed with the music correctly and just looking at it as an element, its rather lackluster compared to the ladies (for obvious reason of course)

I think David Wilson choreographed both R & J programs so if you see some similarities in the choreography, they are not coincidental. :)

I agree with you that Yuzuru will not likely give up the Biellmann for it sets him apart from most of the men, though there have been calls for him to just drop it as it is noticeably slower than his other spins. I wish though he can have a spin, jump, etc. that will be named after him. That will be so cool!

If im wrong please correct me, but i was going through element levels requirements and i think one of the waya to get a higher level was adding a biellmann. Id say that this plays a part in why he keeps doing it, although he slows down a lot and is noticeably labored when performing it.

I have a question, anyone knows who is the female commentator of NBC at Nice WC in 2012? Was watching the R&J 1.0 and really like her.

I am all for him correcting his posture but as far as refinement goes, its hard to do so without losing that wildness which he has in his skating. Its a part of him that I really enjoy when watching his performances and I hope he never loses that....though its hard to say as he continues to mature as both a man and a skater

One of my dreams is for Yuzuru to go back to the Russian choreographers, because it seems like they know how to bring out that passion in him (R&J 1.0) I hope that Orser and Wilson will come to understand that Yuzuru as he is right now skates with passion and not refinement. They should capitalize on that but the possibility of that happening is probably next to impossible with Wilson being a +1 with Orser and the Russian Fed seeing Yuzuru as a huge threat and is doing the most to prevent others from helping him in any way so... :bang:

Denis Ten has wonderful posture, and Kovtun is pretty good in the posture department as well...some of their individual techniques are superior to Hanyu's...but it is Hanyu with his iffy posture, and his rough-around-the-edges skating is what makes me feel something.
The others make me say, good, nice, well done, Hanyu makes me say 'wow!'
Hanyu, Takahashi, recently Machida, Fernandez, Jason Brown, have that 'it' factor.
I still hope he will improve, but the secret to Hanyu's success does not lie in posture.

Well, he got one more ice show in May 10th and 11th. So perhaps after that. He also got one or two in June and July. So either he flys back and forth or he stays in Japan longer. I guess it might be the former. Otherwise how could he prepare for new season?

I agree. Based on what Orser says in his interviews that I have watched, Yuzu is a really passionate skater so I think they capitalize on that. He also says that while Yuzu is keen on improving his quads, Orser includes basic foundations in his training.

I think he'll keep doing the Biellmann for as long as he can because it sets him apart from other skaters...

Does JSF decide on which competitions a Japanese skater will attend?

It is not good for his health. And I think he did get some injury on his back and/or waist at the WC although he did not say anything. I do enjoy watching him doing Biellmann but I guess I will enjoy more if he can stay away from injury and skate for a longer time.
