Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

When looking at the result paper at Worlds, Yuzu's triple flip is received negative GOE and I remember some comments on youtube points out he did a Lip instead of Flip, and the difference between these two is the taking-off edge of blades. So can we realize this kind of mistake when the performance s are broadcasting live? Or we have to wait for the result paper?
If you look closely, and the camera angle is right, you should be able to see it. But sometimes it happens (for whatever reason) that a flip is clearly a lip, yet it doesn't get an edge call, so you might not always agree with the published protocols. That's why there are skating forums where fans can fight over the results and protocols and scores!

Didn't somebody say that it would be great if someday they were to name a jump or spin after the kid? I'd say we're on a good way (at least close to the rink)

thanks for the link cruzceleste. I just spent 40 minutes watching something I didn't understand a word of (except Orser ) thank God I don't have other stuff to do...

And also thanks to you echotpe. I think it's great how they all seem to inspire and push each other. It's a way more enjoyable and admirable sort of rivalry then just fighting with teeth and claws (there's already enough silly cat fight drama in the world)

Hehe, I did post about wanting a new spin or jump or a skating move being named after Yuzuru. He has all the physical tools to do it: insane flexibility (right now I enjoy his and Jason Brown's spins the most) and dynamic jumping (found this so apt and amusing: Yuzuroo! https://24.media.tumblr.com/ddc04f2d4fa3530772e4a5576e57a9e6/tumblr_n3qfhtccLa1tszb8po2_500.png, credit to hanyusan).

Echoing Pamina's thanks to cruzceleste and echotpe for linking us to these great videos. You two are like treasure hunters for us Yuzuru fans.

I must confess I was quite giddy with delight and anticipation upon reading that the videos also include Tatsuki and Daisuke. both of whom I also love.

Pamina, I also watched through that 40 minute video despite not knowing Japanese! (Unsubtle hint to the Japanese speaking members of the Yuzuru fandom ;))

You are welcome :o: .

I think most of us just watch the videos in Japanese and start noding and smiling without understanding a word of what is being say.

My japanese is limited to those words used most in anime. :slink:

I would like to know if anyone has news about Sapporo exhibition ? Because it happened 8-9-10 april but i don't find videos of this, expect sum up's video or short extracts.
Impossible to find Hanyu's performance in Sapporo.
If you mean a complete EX performance, unfortunately they were not aired at all. Not the Sapporo ones. Only several seconds in the news. But osaka EX was aired completely last Saturday. So you might be able to quickly grab something in youtube.

HanDomi, roxella, nimi and ShootAnonymous, thank you guys so much for your help! I usually learn things very slowly but I will try my best. I guess I still have to count on commentators to tell which is which but hopefully I will master the jumps recognization soon.

I too spent a lot of time understanding and identifying the different jumps. In fact, I just recently learned how to differentiate a loop from a salchow without relying on slow-mo replays. A flip and a lutz still looks the same especially the girls since they have a tendency to flutz. And I still can't count the number of rotations in the air esp bet a quad and a triple unless it is in slow mo. It really takes a lot of skating videos. My advice for you is to watch videos of other skaters as well, not only Yuzu's since you will have memorized his layout after watching his vid many times. Try watching full versions of competitions in youtube to train your eye more on the jumps.

Just a suggestion. But maybe you can consider picking up Japanese language classes, if you have some spare time. I learnt it myself (not for Yuzu though). I found that watching Japanese TV shows, news, animations and dramas helped me a lot. We watch those videos anyway. So it won't be too much extra effort and I found my interest has been my best teacher. Now I still have problems in writing and talking in the correct and polite way in Japanese, but I have no problem to understand 80% of most of the videos. Somehow similar to the case when Yuzu speaks English

I may give it a try, but I still need to finish my tesis for Master Degree ... :S

A question, when you take japanese, they teach you also the writing or just the language?

Some Quick Translation to Yuzu's bit: Not all of it though--and not word-for-word.

Hanyu: Orser helped (yuna) to a gold medal, there were those thoughts, but also I wanted to level up and absorb new skills.
One of the first things Orser concentrated on was the skating skills.
Hanyu: I was thinking that I needed to do better in my skating skills but I had not thought about exactly what to do or how to do it. this was new to me.

About the 4S:
Hanyu: If I had done 2 4T's it may have been easier and it may have made my performance more stable. But if I had done that it would not have connected to the next season and the next Olympics. I can't stand still here.
About the OGM:
Hanyu: If I had lost the gold medal I would have understood. There definitely would have been regret though. If I had tried the salchow, and fallen and lost, then I would know that I need to practice the salchow and improve my performance.
If I had done 2 toeloops and done a no-miss performance and lost, then I would wonder what do I need to aim for? If I don't give it all my strength, then I would always wonder where my limits are.
About the future:
Hanyu:The 4A is 1/4 under. In the official list of jumps, there is a 4Axel listed. I practice the 4A to raise my motivation, I will be come stronger, strong enough to do this jump.
Hanyu: I want to aim beyond a Gold medal. My dream is to be a strong competitor that doesn't lose. That is the image of the competitor that I aim for.

I'm taking japanese and the first thing they taught us is writting (hiragana and katakana) once you know and read this, we started with grammar and kanjis.

^Thank you... Yuzuru looks like a kid and sweet and all but he is quite the tenacious person. I can imagine Borser telling him to drop the Salchow and Yuzuru taring right at him and telling him "No"...

His ambition is possible but would be hard to achieve because many things can happen in the coming quad. I'm just afraid that if he sets the bar too high for himself his disappointments will certainly be big. I'm glad that he strives to push himself further but I hope he can achieve the balance in his thoughts and emotions as well.

Thanks for the translation :) if I understood well he says he doesn't regret having the 4S although it wasn't consistent (?) And about his dream of don't lose that's totally Yuzuru haha

Interesting. I will guess it will take a lot of time to learn?

Well it took me 4 classes of 3 hours each to learn both Hiragana and Katakana, I don't know if that's a lot of time :) but in my opinion I don't think grammar is very hard, I find the vocabulary harder haha

thank you so much for the translation :)

Is it weird that I was pretty much sure he would say something like that? I figured to him the suggestion alone must have seemed like a step back (and the kid doesn't really take steps backwards, does he now)

Idk why but that quote gave me chills. Yuzu can be a bit intimidating in his own, subtle way. He doesn't outright brag or put down other skaters, but his ambition is quite clear. Love that about him :)

Oh thank you newbie spectator! :)

Thanks to the great "Yuzuru bulletin" on this thread, I have gotten to read a lot of his (translated) interviews lately. My impression is that we need not fear that that he will rest on his laurels: he is apparently still as competitive as ever ("My dream is to be a strong competitor that doesn't lose"). However he is level-headed enough to know that his rivals are also getting better and stronger and so in his April 10 interview said that "I don’t want to win at all costs anymore, or become the champion every single year. I just want to show the self that has become stronger to enemies, and win with higher skill."). As he has learned in the 2013 SC and TEB where he (badly) lost to Patrick Chan, in the end what he can only control is his own performance and so should always look for ways to improve ("can't stand still"). Thus barring injury, ill health, or something similar, I look forward to seeing him grow from strength to strength in this quad. :)

Thank you for the translations! You are so nice to spend your free time translating those interviews for the non-japanese fans. We really appreciate this:agree:

I like that Yuzu is so ambitious and competitive and still very fair. He's an ideal athlete.:)

edit: 290 pages? wow:eek:
