It just means that journalists, advertisers, entrepreneurs and other scumbags... risk being sued if they attempt to use/exploit "Julia Lipnitskaia" for profit, to imply endorsement, etc etc... when they are clearly referring to THAT Julia Lipnitskaia, the skater. It will give them legal options to protect Julia, her reputation etc etc, where they currently have none.

What are you telling? That without reserving someone's name as "trademark", you may, lets say, take photo or name of a person in Russia without his/her permission, put it in an advertisement, earn money on that and get away with it?
And that there are no legal ways for that person to sue unfair advertiser in court?

Many people who don't give crap about figure skating and know nothing about it watch now figure skating just for her. The figure skating world should be grateful to her for that. She is drawing ordinary people into the competition. Yuna couldn't do it, Michelle couldn't do it.

That's absolutely true - including myself. Yulia is the only one who could pull emotional strings, make me think of figure skating, long for the next season. All others are just figure skaters - some relatively better - some relatively worse. Whether someone has just retired, someone still thinks about retirement, someone is catching up - frankly speaking I don't care much. May be will in the future but again thanks to her.

I paid no attention to this sport until Yulia....she really demonstrated how its more of an art than a sport...I mean I've heard about people like Michelle Kwan and Mao Asada...and saw a few competitions on TV when there was nothing else on but I've never cared.

For me Gracie's marketability for Hollywood is a hard argument to comprehend. There are thousands of actresses, dozens of movie stars and a handful of big time celebrities. Even if she passes the first hurdle, who says she can be successful with the second one not speaking of the third? It takes many things to become Angelina Jolie. And if the becomes a B-level actress in B-level movies, who would care? Yulia on the other hand is already a big time super star in FS. Hope, she stays healthy in the years to come.

Gracie appeals to the US hollywood platter and the quintessential American girl next door turned popular
with her classic Hollywood Beauty, blonde, beautiful face and good body type. plus Gracis's American
and living in Malibu and has close Hollywood connections. It will help FS boost in the US

but Im sure ulia will be popular inside Russia and she already is, that's already a huge feat as this hasn't happened since Plushneko
that has evoked a national pride and familiarity in FS

I don't agree with this. They both did it, Mao too.
All these girls were/are Queens in their own country and for many others in different countries. They have a huge popularity.
They also gave a great boost to the FS there, and set some high standarts for generations to come. That's a great legacy, IMO.

You are not alone. It's hard to comprehend because it's just skyfly wishful thinking, although she thinks it's already a fact because Taylor Swift had a kebab (or a picture?) with Gracie.

It's about Yulia and she is unique, like other skaters as well. Thanks god, or whatever, for that.
It's not her popularity which will bring her medals but the other way around.
