Jason Brown

... What's the next comp we might see Jason in after Champs Camp? Does anyone know if he's done Classic before?

No, Jason has never competed at the U.S. Classic in Salt Lake City (which is only two years old), if that is what you mean. (Max won both years. IIRC, Josh was third last year.)

And not to belabor what I was saying earlier, but my main point is that asking/wishing any skater (X) to divulge privileged information about another skater (Y) seems totally wrong to me -- whether in person or via Facebook or whatever. X has the responsibility to keep quiet about Y, esp. if X does not want any scoop about her/himself to be leaked by anyone else.

Politely asking Y or Y's coach directly is slightly less egregious to me -- with the understanding that they are free to decline to answer.

I will add that in her new podcast with Coach Tom Z, Allison Manley asked him what Mirai Nagasu's goals for the season are.
He declined to answer in any specific way -- because he thought that any announcement (my word) of her goals should come from Mirai herself.

No no, I got you the 1st time and I agree with you totally.

Tho this made me LOL:

I instantly got an image of myself as the crazy fan stalker from Blades of Glory, threatening Kori with a sharpened skate unless she TELL ME NOW

He skated at Nebelhorn last year, I think - any likelihood that he will again this year?

Others know much more about how USFS assignments work than I do. But seems to me that USFS typically sends "up-and-comers" to Nebelhorn. IMO, Jason no longer fits that description, having "arrived" in a big way by the end of the past season (Nebelhorn being the first major step in his breakthrough season).

Aug 8 is the U.S. Classic entry deadline, so the competitors should be announced before too long.
Last year, SLC had lots of big names (no less than Davis/White), so within the realm of possibility that Jason will be assigned this year. (In any case, I hope that Max will return to defend his title again. :))

I wouldn't worry about his jumps choice. I only hope he does those 3 A clean (no two feet on landing), and hopefully the same for whatever quadruple. I guess he must be trying 4 S, as his 2S/3S would make no sense as a second jump. But it is too early. This was not exactly the finished program...it is only a summer preview. Anyway thank you for the youtube link!

Jason and Jordan are not the focus of this 2013 training video, but I enjoyed seeing them among Kori's students doing handstands and performing other drills. For the last exercise -- called "Riverdance" ;) -- Jason and Jordan are partners.

Figure Skating Off-ice Training: Off ice class – Part 2 (Kori Ade)

Thx to SkateFiguring for the alert that for a limited time, this video and others are available at no cost.

Thanks for posting, golden411-- that was very interesting. It's always fascinating to see what goes on behind the scenes.
If I were ever in a position to choose a coach (in the next life ), Kori would be the one!

Those walking handstands are really amazing (what strength & balance!) and Jason did a remarkable job. Not surprisingly. :)

Thanks for the links; always interesting to see the skaters' off-ice conditioning routines. Making what they do on ice even more impressive!

el henry, I like your kitty avatar! I see that TMC also has one!
:)
Thank you, Alabhaois! You can add one too, now that you are well over 100 posts. Tuxedo kitties seem to be quite the rage. This is our Locutula ("Little Talker" in Latin, spousal unit is a classics professor), the most recent of our six rescues, and she is my avatar in a variety of forums. You can't go wrong with cats (or Jason, of course)

I think I may do that (post a cat avatar)-- I have four adopted ones of my own: a black female, two of her offspring (torties), and one portly (formerly male) tabby. It's quite a circus sometimes!

Interesting that Jason is not a cat person. I say interesting because he is far more like a cat than a dog, what with cats' incredible strength, agility, and ability to jump seven times (or more) their height-- without running, stretching, or conditioning -- without even training!

I think it was Scott Hamilton who once called Plushenko a cat because of his ability to one-foot-rotate-and-land a jump that was a total mess in the air. ;)

I would call Jason a puppy - bouncy, wiggly, unable to sit still, happy, loving.

I, however, am not a cat person. *sneezes*

Hamilton was right-on.
Makes sense!

You're right-- Jason has more of a "dog/puppy personality"-- he's open and friendly. Cats can be a little... well...enigmatic,
shall we say? (and very unpredictable)

But as far as athletics goes-- well, Jason is very feline-like, reminiscent of a panther.

Sorry to hear you're allergic to cats-- they can be very fascinating, methinks. :)
When they wish to be, that is!

I think they are all very cat-like, elegant, graceful, but powerful.

I've always been allergic. Nothing totally crazy, but I start sneezing right away, my eyes water and get itchy, and it lasts for hours. :( A shame, because I do actually quite like cats.

EDIT:

Holy moly, that handstand walk. The amount of sheer strength on display there is unbelievable.

... Interesting that Jason is not a cat person. ...

Just curious: Has Jason said in an interview that he is not a cat person?

And a separate question: Do we know whether his family has any pets?
(I consider myself a dog person, although I do not have any. :))

http://figureskatersonline.com/jasonbrown/profile/

He lists his favorite animals as dogs (and dolphins)

I have three kitties out here in Colorado who were very sad to read that

Thx, StitchMonkey :). I had read Jason's profile awhile ago, but (oops) had forgotten what he said there.

I bet that Jason would like your kitties (and other cats) as well , although their species is not at the very top of his list.

(At the very least, he would be impressed that your kitties can read ;).)

Well how dare you not have every piece of Jason Brown info memorized and citeable!

http://i.imgur.com/3kBmNyV.jpg they do still enjoy watching him skate.

I can understand how Jason is more of a dog person. His personality does seem very puppy-like, as karne said. But sometimes it's a matter of meeting the right cat - mine is super affectionate, meets me at the door when I come home from work, and loves to cuddle! I think Jason would approve :)
