2014 Skate Canada Autumn Classic

Didn't see his I spin, but there are very few skaters who can do one and make it look "pretty". lol

What has happened to the live stream? Too many trying to watch?

Of course the stream would stutter during Kevin's skate. :bang: So frustrating...but I liked what I saw, and the costume is definitely an improvement.

I'm kind of sad I missed Patrick, he doesn't look like your traditional skater and I was very interested to see how he did. And I missed most of Kevin's skate too, although I'm getting to see the replay now. I might have to go back and watch some of the videos, at least they are posting them really quickly.

So other people are also having trouble with the stream? At least it's not just my internet.

I like Kevin's program though he didn't jump so well, two footed two of them and kind of popped another.

I will be happy for him when he gets the Canadian Mens title in his resume.

I missed Kevin's score and Jeremy's start. J10 fell on his 3A but he skated a very nice program.

I hope they will all do well by the end of the season.

I also missed Jeremy's score and Ross' start.

eta. I watched Kevin's video. He didn't pop but stepped out.

Much better performance from Ross this time around! HUGE step out on the 3T in 3Z-3T, but he got the 4S. 80+ and into first place!! I think both were surprised by the score!

Wow, the top 3 is not what I expected.

I loved Ross smiling out there. We rarely see any emotion when he skates. Despite the obvious stepout/fall on his last jump, his skate was wonderful.

You have to look at the protocols (once they're available). Purich & Wolfe might have gotten full credit for the SBS 3T, despite her error. They also do a harder throw than D&F, although neither pair's throw was that great. D&F's SBS jumps were both 2-footed and at least one of them likely deserved to get dinged with an under rotation.

I think Calalang & Sidhu's lines match each other better than D&F. Frazier's extension is so different from Denney's (for example, watch the SBS spins). C&S did a harder throw with better execution. D&F's death spiral, SBS jumps & spins were weaker today. C&S also got more height on their triple twist, although Calalang brushed Sidhu's head on the catch, so I might consider them even on that element for today. Overall, C&S were stronger on several elements than D&F were. Unless you really know pairs and all the level criteria, sometimes that's not as obvious without looking at the protocols.

Duhamel & Radford of course were the class of the field. Her 3Lz kept them out of the 70 point range today, but they delivered a quality short program. It was too bad that Grenier & Deschamps had SBS jump troubles as that is perhaps their strongest element. It was a struggle for the Canadian pairs today, but D&R were still quite impressive. Maybe Purich & Wolfe's score was a bit high, but it's hard to know without seeing the protocols.

Calalang and Sidhu had no negative GOEs.

Purich and Wolfe had negative GOE on their twist and jump.

Denney and Frazer had negative GOE on their throw, jump, death spiral, and spin.

Now skating for Argentina, Denis Margalik is/was Canada's 2014 junior national champion.

Oh I didn't realize that, does he have a parent from Argentina?

I loved Ross smiling out there. We rarely see any emotion when he skates. Despite the obvious stepout/fall on his last jump, his skate was wonderful.

His big smile stood out to me as well. His quad looked a bit under rotated, but I think it was big for him to do both the 4S and 3A in the same program with reasonable success.

If Skate Canada was wise, they'd have figured out a way to separate Nam Ngyuen and Brendan Kerry in the protocols. Because 4T, 3Lz-3T and 2A should not have lost to 1Lz, 3A, 3F-3T. That was PCS and that was home cooking all the way.

I was going to say that it's a shame Brendan didn't hit all his levels, because he'd be in medal contention for sure, but maybe it doesn't matter.

Nam's spin levels were quite a bit better than Brendan's, so that hurt him.

-1 GOE for a fall?

Seem there was disagreement on whether it was a fall or not. The tech caller deemed it a fall but some of the judges did not.

I though it was a stepout, myself. But the tech caller must've felt that he put weight with his hands.

If he would got -3 across the board, the -GOE would have been 2.1 instead of 1.54, so his score would have been 79.68.

27 PCS for Daleman is too much even considering the home ice advantage  I would have given her something around 24-25, she needs to work A LOT on her transitions, posture, arm movements and expression, if I hadn't known that it was Vivaldi, it could have been even a jazz piece, basing on her facial expressions :slink: I adore her huge jumps, though

I think if they were going to give Daleman the home ice advantage she would not have been the only top lady to receive an edge call that cost her 3 points.
