Egna Dance Trophy Senior Short Dance: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Angelina and Ilia finished 4th out of 14 in the Short Dance, with a score of 68.99.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Egna Dance Trophy.

Looking at the Protocols, they are beautiful. Not a single negative number. That said, Judge 5 (the Judge actually representing Cyprus!) was giving marks that were considerably lower than the other Judges. But, she was doing that for everybody. (I wonder if she was being extra cautious after what happened the day before, when a gymnastics coach from Cyprus was given a 4 year ban for manipulating scores).

Angelina and Ilia are currently 2.13 points behind 3rd position, Marie DUPAYAGE / Thomas NABAIS (FRA), and 0.51 points ahead of 5th position, Leia DOZZI / Pietro PAPETTI (ITA). Angelina and Ilia are at the head of a group of 4 partnerships cpvered by 4.12 points, stretching down to Giulia Isabella PAOLINO / Andrea TUBA (ITA) in 7th position.

Although they are in 4th position, and only a couple of points away from a medal, they are actually in a difficult position. The three partnerships behind them are all within striking distance. So, Angelina and Ilia need to go all out in the Free Dance to make sure that they do not drop any positions, and instead move up one.

But, it looks like they are in good form. Athough this is not their Absolute PB score for the SP, it is their second highest ever SP score. And by far the highest SP score they have achieved in the 4 years since they achieved their Absolute PB at the Ludmila Mikhailovskaya Dance Trophy in February 2021. And that is something that should be applauded.

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start at 13:30:00 CET (12:30:00 GMT / 15:30:00 MSK / 17:30:00 YEKT). So 6 hours from now.

Angelina and Ilia will be the 11th partnership to start. So, second partnership to go in Group 3 (and second partnership to go after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 15:06:30 CET (14:06:30 GMT / 17:06:30 MSK / 19:06:30 YEKT). So 7h 36m from now.

Angelina and Ilia are due to start at 15:19:50 CET (14:19:50 GMT / 17:19:50 MSK / 19:19:50 YEKT). So 7h 49m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Egna Dance Trophy Free Dance: Results; Protocols
Egna Dance Trophy Ice Dance: Results

No video uploaded yet 😞

Angelina and Ilia finished 6th out of 14 in the FS, with a score of 96.92. This meant that they dropped to 4th position overall, with a score of 165.91.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Egna Dance Trophy.

Looking at the Protocols, it looks like the only issues were with the Twizzles, as this was the only element that had any negative numbers beside it. They got -1.70 in GOE, and -4 from Judge 4; -3 from Judge 3; and -2 from the remaining three Judges. Apart from a 0 from Judge 5 for the Serpentine Step Sequence that they did just after the Twizzles, every other element was completely positive.

Yes, the Judge representing Cyprus was again in seat #5. And she was again marking everybody lower than the other Judges were. So, at least she was consistent.

Angelina and Ilia finished the Free Dance 2.53 points behind 5th position, Leia DOZZI / Pietro PAPETTI (ITA), and 6.65 points ahead of 7th position, Lou TERREAUX / Noé PERRON (FRA).

Overall, Angelina and Ilia were 2.02 points behind 4th position, Dozzi / Papetti, and 1.07 points ahead of 6th position, Giulia Isabella PAOLINO / Andrea TUBA (ITA).

Although their FD score was slightly lower than their highest FD score of the season from the Sofia Trophy, their second highest ever SD score meant that they achieved a new Absolute PB for the overall score!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Oh, if only they had got that SD score a week earlier. Then they would have got doing their Free Dance at their first European Championships.

But, if they continue scoring like this, they will have a good shot at getting to do both segments at their first Senior World Championships.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The day has finally arrived. Angelina and Ilia will be making their Senior World Championships debut today in Boston, Massachusettes.

The Senior Short Dance is due to start at 11:15:00 EDT (15:15:00 GMT / 17:15:00 EET / 18:15:00 MSK / 20:15:00 YEKT). So 10 hours from now.

Angelina and Ilia will be the 7th partnership to start. So, third partnership to go in Group 2 (and penultimate partnership to go before the first resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 11:47:45 EDT (15:47:45 GMT / 17:47:45 EET / 18:47:45 MSK / 20:47:45 YEKT). So 10h 32m from now.

Angelina and Ilia are due to start at 12:07:30 EDT (16:07:30 GMT / 18:07:30 EET / 19:07:30 MSK / 21:07:30 YEKT). So 10h 52m from now.

Senior World Championships Short Dance: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMQw6Z7-EUc

Angelina and Ilia finished 36th out of 36 in the Short Dance, with a score of 49.63.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Senior World Championships on Friday due to there being rounds of both World Superbikes and MotoGP being on. However, I did pop in to watch Angelina and Ilia do their Warm-Up and their programme LIVE.

And the ever helpful @labgoat even posted a friendly reminder to let me know that the Warm-Up was starting, just in case I wasn't ready:

@CaroLiza_fan your dance team is on the warm-up

I love the community spirit here!

Anyway, here is my reply, along with what I wrote about Angelina and Ilia in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Don't worry, I had remembered and had the stream re-opened just in time for the introductions.

Angelina and Ilia just casually walked in holding hands and waving.

Nice new white team jackets.

Next time we saw them, they had ditched their jackets and were in their costumes. Unfortunately for us, when the camera started focussing on them, they were just at the end of whatever they were practicing, and were starting to have a bit of a rest.

Fortunately, they then started doing a section of their programme. But then the camera left them.

Saw them in the background talking to their coach while another partnership was being focussed on.

The camera did focus on them again briefly when they were doing another section of their programme.

And that was it.

Oh, I can't wait to see how they get on. But, in the meantime, back to the bikes.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when they were being introduced:

That is perfect timing. I got World Superbike Free Practice 2 finished just in time for my kids starting.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST ANGELINA AND ILIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about their programme:

Awww, nice close-up of Angelina when they were in their starting position. (Sorry, but I don't like the lipstick. A bit too dark for me).

Loved them miming to the drumming.

As Chris said, a bit of a bobble on the Twizzles.

Eek, Ilia dropped Angelina when they were starting the Curved Lift. Thankfully she wasn't that high.

Chris commented that it took them a while to get back into it after that.

They were really getting into it during "Tragedy".

When they finished, you could see just how annoyed Ilia was with himself.

Big hugs from the coaches.

Chris says they can't expect too much, and are fearing the worst.

They go into 7th and last position.

Why did I come back?! It cursed them. :slink:

But, I still love them!

Now time for me to slip back to Portimão to play catchup on the World Supersport 300 Qualfying.

CaroLiza_fan

My partner in crime in Sicily, @elektra blue, showed her support when they were introduced:

go Angelina and Ila! :hap10::hap10::hap10:

@Seven Sisters appreciated the song that they started their programme with (as did I!):

Knock on Wood—first cool and groovy music choice of the day :)

When the aborted lift happened, my friend in Norway, @norwegianfairytale, exclaimed:

To which @ramurphy2005 replied:

I gasped out loud.

@elektra blue came back at the end of the programme by talking to the stream:

what a shame indeed, Chris, they can say goodby to both free and olympic spot

The next two comments came from long-serving members who joined in the early days of the forum. I assume it was about Angelina and Ilia, but @Doggygirl made a comment that made me smile:

Some of these costumes make me cringe wondering what the heck I was actually wearing back in the 70's!!!!

While @yelyoh said:

Ahh that hurts. Poor kids.

The best comment, though, came from @moonvine:

Tragedy is appropriate for this dance.😢

Looking at the Protocols, they are not actually that bad. There was only one element that had any negative numbers beside it, and they were not that far into the minus scale. The problem is that the aborted lift meant that they only had four elements rather than the required five.

The element with the negative numbers was the Choreographic Rhythm Sequence, which the Protocols noted did not fulfill the full requirements. It got GOE of -0.17; as well as -2 from Judge 8; -1 from four Judges; an 0 from four Judges.

Two of the elements did particularly well. The Twizzles got +1.37 in GOE; as well as 0 from Judge 8; +1 from two Judges; and +2 from six Judges. And the Midline Step Sequence got +1.49 in GOE; as well as +1 from five Judges; and +2 from four Judges. The remaining element, the Pattern Step Sequence, was completely neutral apart from a +1 from Judge 8.

Angelina and Ilia are currently 0.61 points behind 35th position, Katarina DELCAMP / Berk AKALIN (TUR), and 2.24 points ahead of 34th position, Sofiia DOVHAL / Wiktor KULESZA (POL). All three partnerships are the bottom 3 partnerships in a group of 4 partnerships covered by 2.67 points, stretching up to Samantha RITTER / Daniel BRYKALOV (AZE) in 33rd position.

Unfortunately, the Senior World Championships have a cut-off where only 20 partnerships go throough to the Free Dance. And with finishing the Short in last position, Angelina and Ilia were knocked out. They were 18.46 points behind the last partnership to get through, Juulia TURKKILA / Matthias VERSLUIS (FIN).

It just goes to show how costly missing just one element can be. But, pulling out of the lift at the point that they did was totally the correct decision. If they had gone ahead, there was the risk that the fall could have been worse, potentially causing injuries. And after what happened last season with Angelina's broken leg, we don't want them to have to go through all that again.

As it is, they are safe and well, and ready to go into next season fighting fully fit.

And I can't wait to see what they come out fighting with.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Just took my daily look at the Cyprus Mail's website, and found that they posted an interview with Ilia yesterday:

https://cyprus-mail.com/2025/05/16/a-minute-with-ilia-karankevich-professional-figure-skater

It was a very interesting read. He really has his head screwed on.

One of the things I found out that I didn't know before was that Ilia and his family used to live in 🇴🇲 Oman. Another of my kids, Amani Fancy, also used to live there. So, I wonder if they have ever spoken, and compared notes.

I know it is a set set of questions, but I always laugh when they ask young people "What would you say to your 18-year-old self?" For goodness sake, it is only just over three years ago that he was 18!

By the way, Marilena was featured in the same column back in February 2022. See this post for more info about it.

I wonder who the next skater they interview will be... 🤔

Enjoy!

After Ilia was featured in the "A Minute With" column of the Cyprus Mail in May, it was Angelina's turn this week:

https://cyprus-mail.com/2025/08/22/a-minute-with-angelina-kudryavtseva-ice-dancer-figure-skater

It was already obvious from looking at her Instagram over the years, but the main thing that came across in this interview is how important her family is to Angelina.

It's well seeing that Angelina and her family have lived in Cyprus for so many years. She is your typical Cypriot.

I did burst out laughing at one point. It was obvious from her answer that Angelina realised how ridiculous it was to ask a 19-year-old the "What would you say to your 18-year-old self?" question.

This interview just confirms what I have often suspected - that it is impossible not to like Angelina.

CaroLiza_fan

After Marilena and Stefania made the journey to Sheffield two weeks ago for the Robin Cousins Cup, it is now the turn for Angelina and Ilia to follow in their footsteps as they compete in the Bolero Cup in Sheffield, England.

The Senior Short Dance is due to start at 15:20:00 BST (13:20:00 GMT / 17:20:00 EEST / 17:20:00 MSK / 19:20:000 YEKT). So 9 hours from now.

Angelina and Ilia will be the 7th partnership to start. So, third and penultimate partnership to go in Group 2 (and penultimate partnership to go before the first resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 16:15:15 BST (14:15:15 GMT / 18:15:15 EEST / 18:15:15 MSK / 16:15:15 YEKT). So 9h 55m from now.

And that is as much as I can tell you, as there are no Time Schedule PDF's for this event.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

I am afraid that they withdrew from the Bolero Cup.

Hope everything is OK with them, and that they are merely saving themselves for the Olympic Qualifying Event in a couple of weeks.

On the eve of Angelina and Ilia doing their SD at the Olympic Qualifying Event in Beijing, I wanted to take the opportunity of sharing something with you.

A week or so ago, @Jumping_Bean found a couple of posts on Weibo with Bio cards for the Ladies skaters taking part, and posted the links in the Pre-Game thread. I have since found the equivalent posts for the Ice Dancers. Unfortunately, you can't link directly to the individual cards, so I am instead attaching Angelina and Ilia's to this post:

Angelina and Ilia finished 11th out of 19 in the Short Dance, with a score of 60.87.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Here is what I wrote when they were being introduced:

And here is what I wrote about their programme:

The first comment about them from another member came from Canadian member @4everchan, who was posting an alert for my good friend in Sicily, @elektra blue:

I don't agree. The costumes were fine.

@yuumagical was very impressed:

But then @4everchan replied:

Veronica Lake, sorry, @Lamente Ariane was also impressed:

My fellow British member @FlossieH spotted the same thing as 4everchan:

After the scores were announced, @Lamente Ariane returned to say:

Angelina and Ilia are currently 1.24 points behind 10th position, Mariia PINCHUK / Mykyta POGORIELOV (UKR), and 0.83 points ahead of 12th position, Giulia Isabella PAOLINO / Andrea TUBA (ITA). All three partnerships are part of a group where 7 partnerships are covered by 5.05 points, stretching from Mariia IGNATEVA / Danijil Leonyidovics SZEMKO (HUN) in 7th position, 3.71 points ahead of Angelina and Ilia, down to Maria KAZAKOVA / Vladislav KASINSKIJ (GEO) in 13th position, 1.34 points behind Angelina and Ilia.

With four slots available in Ice Dance, and Angelina and Ilia being 8.27 points behind the partnership currently in 4th position, Utana YOSHIDA / Masaya MORITA (JPN), they are out of contention for a slot at the Olympics. However, with being in such a large group, there is the potential for them to mmove up considerably if they have a good Free Dance.

So, let's hope that they do just that!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start tomorrow at 10:00:00 CST (02:00:00 GMT / 03:00:00 BST / 04:00:00 CEST / 05:00:00 EEST / 05:00:00 MSK / 07:00:00 YEKT). So 6 hours from now.

Angelina and Ilia will be the 9th partnership to start. So, fifth and final partnership to go in Group 2 (and final partnership to go before the resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 10:37:25 CST (02:37:25 GMT / 03:37:25 BST / 04:37:25 CEST / 05:37:25 EEST / 05:37:25 MSK / 07:37:25 YEKT). So 6h 37m from now.

Angelina and Ilia are due to start at 11:14:50 CST (03:14:50 GMT / 04:14:50 BST / 05:14:50 CEST / 06:14:50 EEST / 06:14:50 MSK / 08:14:50 YEKT). So 7h 14m from now.

Angelina and Ilia finished 9th out of 19 in the FD, with a score of 95.44. This meant that they dropped to 11th position overall, with a score of 156.31.

Unfortunately, due to the time difference, I wasn't able to watch the Free Dance LIVE. However, I have now started playing catch-up on the archived livestream, so here is the sort of comment I would have written about the Warm-Up if I had been watching LIVE:

Angelina and Ilia walk out calmly holding hands, and each immediately waves to the audience with their spare hand. And then when they reach the camera, they wave to it.

Angelina's jacket is too big for her (and Ilia's isn't far behind either).

We didn't actually see them again until they crept into the background of the shot just before they started to be focussed on.

When the camera did focus on them, they looked like they were heading back to the boards. But then PJ Kwong starting talking, and Angelina realised straight away that she was talking about them. So she told Ilia, and they started doing part of their step sequence for the cameras.

Due to there having been a collision in the Group 1 Warm-Up, Mark and Ted had been spending the Group 2 Warm-Up talking about awareness of what was going on around you. Well, Angelina reacting to PJ Kwong talking about them was the perfect demonstration of that.

Just after this they got the one minute warning. After showing an aerial shot, we switched to a zoomed in shot of Sofiia DOVHAL / Wiktor KULESZA (POL) just casually moving along parallel to the boards. And then in the background, closer to the boards, Angelina and Ilia went across the shot doing the same.

When they got the call to leave the ice, we were again looking at the Polish partnership. And Angelina was behind them. But then when we saw them all at the gate, Angelina and then Ilia were the first to go through it.

Now they have the long wait until they skate at the end of the group.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is the sort of comment I would have written when they was being introduced if I had been watching LIVE:

And now it is time for my first set of kids.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST ANGELINA AND ILIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is the sort of comment I would have written about their programme if I had been watching LIVE:

My goodness! Those are seriously low V's on the front and back of Angelina's dress! (Don't worry, there's illusion mesh).

Both costumes are black, except that Angelina's dress has silver trim.

Beautiful choreography including Stationary Lift at start.

One Foot Turns beautiful. Angelina had an extra turn at the end of the sequence to get facing Ilia.

Rotational Lift very good.

Ach, aerial shot used during the Serpentine meant we didn't get to see it properly!

Twizzles looked well synchronised to me.

Next few elements beautiful too.

Lost them momentarily as camera couldn't keep up with them when they were by the Judges bench during the Choreographic Character Step Sequence.

And a beautiful ending pose. But then weird overhead shot of them.

Boxes completely green. No red at all.

I know people love their uptempo programmes, but I have always felt they are at their best when doing this sort of programme. (I loved their 2021 Free to “Nuvole Bianche” by Ludovico Einaudi) And this reinforces that opinion.

They go into 2nd position in both the FD and overall.

:cheer: WELL DONE ANGELINA AND ILIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

The first post about them in the competition thread came all the way from Chile, where @jorge2912 was wishing them the best:

Canadian member @4everchan was surprised by their music choice:

This got three replies. The first from our resident video archive list compiler @labgoat:

The second from @jorge2912, who joked:

And the third came (much later) from another Canadian, @NanaPat:

About the programme itself, @labgoat commented:

Italian member @bartlebooth simply said:

While @yuumagical spotted a significance that I would never have spotted (largely because I'm not familiar enough with the piece for the title to be in my head):

@auser also enjoyed it:

As did @jorge2912:

Angelina and Ilia finished the Free Dance 3.04 points behind 8th position, Giulia Isabella PAOLINO / Andrea TUBA (ITA), and 0.34 points ahead of 10th position, Shira ICHILOV / Mikhail NOSOVITSKIY (ISR). Angelina and Ilia are at the head of a group of 3 partnerships covered by 1.55 points, which is completed by Carolane SOUCISSE / Shane FIRUS (IRL).

Overall, Angelina and Ilia were 1.34 points behind 10th position, Ichilov / Nosovitsiy, and 2.50 points ahead of 12th position, Mariia PINCHUK / Mykyta POGORIELOV (UKR). Angelina and Ilia are at the bottom of a group of 4 partnerships covered by 2.21 points, which is headed by Paolino / Tuba.

Unfortunately, only the Top 4 go through, and they were 12.52 points behind the last partnership that qualified for Assago, WANG Shiyue / LIU Xinyu (CHN). But, the important thing to take away from this is that Angelina and Ilia skated great in both programmes.

Now, they can focus on the events that they will compete in over the next few months, in preparation for Europeans and Worlds.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Angelina and Ilia will be back in action at the new Challenger event in Georgia, the Trialeti Trophy, in Tbilisi.

Angelina and Ilia will be the 9th partnership to start. So, first partnership to go in Group 3 (and first partnership to go after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 19:12:20 GET (15:12:20 GMT / 16:12:20 BST / 17:12:20 CEST / 18:12:20 EEST / 18:12:20 MSK / 20:12:20 YEKT). So 10h 12m from now.

Angelina and Ilia are due to start at 19:17:50 GET (15:17:50 GMT / 16:17:50 BST / 17:17:50 CEST / 18:17:50 EEST / 18:17:50 MSK / 20:17:50 YEKT). So 10h 17m from now.

Angelina and Ilia finished 10th out of 15 in the Short Dance, with a score of 57.86.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Trialeti Trophy, as I was concentrating on the Junior Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.

Looking at the Protocols, there was only one element with issues. The opening element. You guessed it: the Twizzles. They got GOE of -0.96; along with Judges marks of two -2's; and five -1's.

The rest of the elements got GOE ranging from +0.45 for the third element, the Pattern Step, to +1.46 for the second element, the Midline Step Sequence. The Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE ranged from 0 to +3.

They were fortunate that they skated well, because of the five partnerships behind them, only one had a programme whose Base Value was lower than Angelina and Ilia's programme. In fact two of the partnerships behind them had Technical Elements Scores that were higher than Angelina and Ilia got. Fortunately the Programme Components Score came to their rescue, being higher than all the partnerships behind them, as well as the two partnerships directly in front of them.

Angelina and Ilia are currently 1.24 points behind 9th position, Karla Maria KARL / Kai HOFERICHTER (DEU), and 1.03 points ahead of 11th position, Samantha RITTER / Daniel BRYKALOV (AZE). All three partnerships are part of a group where 6 partnerships are covered by 3.70 points, stretching from Sofiia DOVHAL / Wiktor KULESZA (POL) in 8th position, 1.76 points ahead of Angelina and Ilia, down to Maxine WEATHERBY / Oleksandr KOLOSOVSKYI (AZE) in 13th position, 1.94 points behind Angelina and Ilia.

In short, they could potentially go up two positions, or go down three positions. So, they need to have a good Free Dance to make sure that it is up they go.

So, let's hope they do have a good Free Dance!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start at 12:10:00 GET (08:10:00 GMT / 09:10:00 BST / 10:10:00 CEST / 11:10:00 EEST / 11:10:00 MSK / 13:10:00 YEKT). So 4 hours from now.

Angelina and Ilia will be the 6th partnership to start. So, first partnership to go in Group 2.

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 12:55:30 GET (08:55:30 GMT / 09:55:30 BST / 10:55:30 CEST / 11:55:30 EEST / 11:55:30 MSK / 13:55:30 YEKT). So 4h 45m from now.

Angelina and Ilia are due to start at 13:01:00 GET (09:01:00 GMT / 10:01:00 BST / 11:01:00 CEST / 12:01:00 EEST / 12:01:00 MSK / 14:01:00 YEKT). So 10h 17m from now.

Angelina and Ilia finished 11th out of 15 in the FD, with a score of 86.61. This meant that they remained in 10th position overall, with a score of 144.47.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Trialeti Trophy, as I was concentrating on the Junior Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.

Looking at the Protocols, there was only issue. And, like the day before, it was with the Twizzles. The difference is that rather than opening the programme, this time they were in the middle as the fifth element. They got the only negative GOE of the programme, at -1.02, which was a slightly bigger hit than in the Short. The Judges marks were also worse than the Short, with five -3's; and two -2's.

For the other elements, the GOE ranged from +0.43 for the second element, the One-Foot Turns, to +1.66 for two elements: the eighth element, the Choreographic Character Step, and the tenth element, the Choreographic Spin. Apart from a -1 and two 0's for the One-Foot Turns, all the Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE ranged from +1 to +3.

Angelina and Ilia finished the Free Dance 0.18 points behind 10th position, Maxine WEATHERBY / Oleksandr KOLOSOVSKYI (AZE), and 0.41 points ahead of 12th position, Natalia PALLU-NEVES / Jayin PANESAR (BRA).

Overall, Angelina and Ilia were 2.28 points behind 10th position, Maria KAZAKOVA / Vladislav KASINSKIJ (GEO), and 1.53 points ahead of 12th position, Sofiia DOVHAL / Wiktor KULESZA (POL). The three partnerships are at the head of a group of 5 partnerships covered by 5.97 points, stretching down to Karla Maria KARL / Kai HOFERICHTER (DEU) in 13th position, 3.69 points behind Angelina and Ilia.

Twizzles have a lot to answer for. They have been the scurge of many an Ice Dancer over the years, and they were the only issue for Angelina and Ilia in each segment here.

But, we won't have to wait long for them to be back in action. They will be competing at the Mezzaluna Cup next week. So, hopefully Angelina will get a nice present in Rome ahead of her birthday!

Angelina and Ilia will be the 11th partnership to start. So, third and penultimate partnership to go in Group 3 (and third partnership to go after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 16:15:20 CEST (14:15:20 GMT / 15:15:20 BST / 17:15:20 EEST / 17:15:20 MSK / 19:15:20 YEKT). So 9h 15m from now.

Mezzaluna Cup Senior Short Dance: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Angelina and Ilia finished 4th out of 21 in the Short Dance, with a score of 67.43.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Mezzaluna Cup, as I was concentrating on the final round of the World Superbikes from Spain and the final round of the British Superbikes from Kent.

Looking at the Protocols, there were no issues at all. The GOE ranged from +0.80 for the opening element, the Twizzles, to +3.00 for the final element, the Choreographic Rhythm Sequence. The Judges marks ranged from 0 (from Judge 3 for the aforementioned Twizzles; and from Judge 4 for the aforementioned Choreographic Rhythm Sequence) to +4 (from Judge 5 for the fourth element, the Roller Lift). But the vast majority of Judges marks were +1 or +2.

Angelina and Ilia are currently 1.92 points behind 3rd position, Charise MATTHAEI / Max LIEBERS (DEU), and 1.80 points ahead of 5th position, Amy CUI / Jonathan ROGERS (USA). All three partnerships are part of a group where 15 partnerships are covered by 16.62 points, stretching from Giulia Isabella PAOLINO / Andrea TUBA (ITA) in 2nd position, 3.90 points ahead of Angelina and Ilia, down to Olivia Josephine SHILLING / Leo BAETEN (BEL) in 16th position, 12.72 points behind Angelina and Ilia.

That was using my usual guide of using a 2.00 point gap as defining groups. If we reduce it to a 1.90 point gap, then Angelina and Ilia are at the head of a group where 5 partnerships are covered by 4.33 points, stretching down to Raffaella Adele KONCIUS / Alexey SHCHEPETOV (USA) in 8th position.

Although the win is out of reach, as the leaders after the Short are 8.22 points ahead of them, Angelina and Ilia do have a good shot at the other steps on the podium if they have a good Free Dance. The partnership currently in 2nd position, Giulia Isabella PAOLINO / Andrea TUBA (ITA), are only 3.90 points ahead of them. On the other hand, if they make mistakes, there is the possibility of dropping down, potentially to 8th position.

So, let's hope they do have a good Free Dance.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start at 13:00:00 CEST (11:00:00 GMT / 12:00:00 BST / 14:00:00 EEST / 14:00:00 MSK / 16:00:00 YEKT). So 6 hours from now.

Angelina and Ilia will be the 18th partnership to start. So, second partnership to go in Group 5 (and second partnership to go after the second resurfacing).

The Group 5 Warm-Up is due to start at 16:08:00 CEST (14:08:00 GMT / 15:08:00 BST / 17:08:00 EEST / 17:08:00 MSK / 19:08:00 YEKT). So 9h 8m from now.

Angelina and Ilia are due to start at 16:22:00 CEST (14:22:00 GMT / 15:22:00 BST / 17:22:00 EEST / 17:22:00 MSK / 19:22:00 YEKT). So 9h 22m from now.

Mezzaluna Cup Senior Ice Dance: Results

Angelina and Ilia finished 9th out of 21 in the FD, with a score of 93.09. This meant that they dropped to 6th position overall, with a score of 160.52.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Mezzaluna Cup, as I was concentrating on the final round of the World Superbikes from Spain and the final round of the British Superbikes from Kent.

Looking at the Protocols, there was only one issue, which came right at the very end of the programme. There was a fall on the Choreographic Spin. It had the only GOE of the programme, at -0.88, and since it already had the joint lowest Base Value of the programme (along with the two elements done directly before it), it became the lowest scoring element of the programme. Strangely, it did not get -5 fromm all the Judges. Instead, it got -5 from two Judges; -4 from Judge 1; and -3 from two Judges.

The remaining elements all had positive GOE, ranging from +0.80 for the sixth element, the Straight Line Lift, to +1.46 for the second element, the Twizzles! 😲 Apart from two 0's, which were both given by Judge 5, all the Judges marks ranged from +1 to +3. (I should probably add that one of the three +3's that were given also came from Judge 5).

Angelina and Ilia finished the Free Dance 0.20 points behind 8th position, Vanessa PHAM / Anton SPIRIDONOV (USA), and 0.23 points ahead of 10th position, Maria KAZAKOVA / Vladislav KASINSKIJ (GEO). The three partnerships are at the bottom of a group of 5 partnerships covered by 0.85 points, stretching up to Leia DOZZI / Pietro PAPETTI (ITA) in 6th position, 0.62 points ahead of Angelina and Ilia.

Overall, Angelina and Ilia were 6.56 points behind 5th position, Raffaella Adele KONCIUS / Alexey SHCHEPETOV (USA), and 2.41 points ahead of 7th position, Dozzi / Papetti.

Well that's a turn-up for the books. After being the only issue in both of their programmes a week earlier in Georgia, the Twizzles not only got positive GOE in both programmes in Rome, but got the highest GOE in the Free Dance!

Such a pity about the fall on the final element of the Free Dance. But, whilst it would have meant that they could have been two positions higher in the Free, it wouldn't have made any difference to their overall finishing position. Nevertheless, it would have been lovely for Angelina to go into her birthday week having had two clean programmes.

But, I think achieving their fouth highest ever SD score and their fifth highest ever overall score are pretty good presents! ;)

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:
