Looks like Julia Sebestyen is back on track.

Gosh, I wanted Emily to win, but at least she held on for a medal. What is going on with BeBe, looks like three falls.

Sorry but this is a hot mess!

Sebestyen winning any event is a joke and at 153. That would have been 5th at SA and SC. They really need to even out these draws. This is embarrassing.

I was up until 3:15am to see the ladies results. It was a shocker to see Julia win this one. I am happy for her, after the miserable year she had.

Go Julia!

Sebestyen certainly deserved to beat Hughes, because Julia only flubbed three jumps, popping her loop and doubling her flip and toe loop.

Whereas Emily doubled her triple flip, her triple toe and both of her triple Lutzes.

BTW, looking at the protocols, some of these jumps are listed simply as doubles, whereas some are listed as downgraded triples. On Hughes' two Lutzes, the first is scored simply 2Lz and the second as 3Lz<, and received the same base mark as a double.

Does anyone know what's the difference?

If Bebe had not fallen 3 times she would have been in 4th, and given the subjectivity of the sport, she may even have placed for the podium. But 3 falls knock the wind out of judges.

The worst was the fall on the triple loop, because it was downgraded to a double AND penalized in GOE. With the fall deduction she earned a NEGATIVE 0.35 for this element.

BTW, she got three deductions but one of them was a time deduction. It looks like she fell twice (3 Lz and 3 Lo) but saved her 3 F, losing only a -1.40 GOE.

Miki Ando's total score of 192 points at Skate America is really starting to stand out as the season progresses.

I was surprised to see Aki Sawada outscoring Mai Asada on the SP. I thought Mai did quite well, and she's much nicer to watch. But apparently Mai made it up on the FS (haven't seen it).

Something occurred to me after viewing Elena Sokolova's long program again...Could she possibly be the only female in history to have ever worn black skates in competition?

I think in the early days of competitions, around the turn of that century, the ladies wore black skates to show the men that they were equal.
