I dont understand technically why the circle with Alisa's arms when she sets up for jumps, but I dont skate so...It is just so distracting from the flow of the program, it is like a warm up.

Exactly. And the judges are taking note to some degree. Her PCS were all in the 7's and 8's with the exception of the transition mark, which was 6.86 (still too high IMO).
