I do feel, though, that Sotnikova is not as insular and self-obsessed as many athletes, not just skaters, are who achieve greatness at a young age (I'm thinking of Pete Sampras, Tiger Woods and, of course, Tara Lipinski). It would be impossible for her to be when she has experienced something so heartrending and so far outside of the average human experience.
