Anyone else follows the 2017 Southeast Asia Games in Kuala Lumpur?

When I read the thread title ("Sea games 2017"), I thought that we were talking watersports!

One of those occasions when using capital letters can make all the difference. :agree:

In all seriousness, I didn't realise the SEA Games were on at the moment. So, thank you for letting us know.

Here is the website for Kuala Lumpur 2017:

https://www.kualalumpur2017.com.my/

Here is the schedule:

https://www.kualalumpur2017.com.my/schedule-2.pdf

And for the first time, there will be some Winter Sports included. :cheer:   :party2: :points:

Here is the Ice Skating page on the Kuala Lumpur 2017 website:

https://www.kualalumpur2017.com.my/seagames-sport.cshtml?cid=54

This page covers both Figure Skating and Speed Skating.

The Figure Skating competitions (just Singles) are on Saturday 26[SUP]th[/SUP] (Short Programmes) and Sunday 27[SUP]th[/SUP] (Free Skates).

There is very little info on Kuala Lumpur 2017's own website, but I have been able to gleam a little from the Announcement PDF on the ISU website:

http://static.isu.org/media/517158/sea-games-2017_announcement.pdf

Location: Empire City Ice Arena, Empire City, Damansara Perdana

Saturday 26[SUP]th[/SUP] August 2017

15:00 MYT (09:00 CEST / 08:00 BST / 07:00 GMT): Ladies SP
16:30 MYT (10:30 CEST / 09:30 BST / 08:30 GMT): Men's SP

Sunday 27[SUP]th[/SUP] August 2017

16:30 MYT (10:30 CEST / 09:30 BST / 08:30 GMT): Men's FS
18:00 MYT (12:00 CEST / 11:00 BST / 10:00 GMT) Victory Ceremony

If anybody knows if there is an Entries / Results Page out there, please let us know!

In the meantime, I hope this helps.

Hey there! I'm totally following it! :agree: I've also made a thread here on the figure skating event.

I'm an idiot! I even looked in that forum for a thread, but didn't see it! :drama: :slink:

Thank you for linking to the Event Thread for the figure skating competitions in this thread, and for quoting my post to the figure skating thread.

But, please be aware that the ISU's Announcement PDF may not be totally up-to-date. So, times of competitions may actually be different from what I copied.

All the best to everybody competing in all the sports, and I hope the Games go well!

Caps Lock forgot his duty when I wrote it yesterday. My phone likes to play "I know best!" most of the time. LOL. Sorry for the confusion.

Their official website is pretty useless. No updates. No news. No nothing. The Philippines media has the best coverages so far. I'll let you guys know the livestream info for the figure skate events as soon as I see them.

I look too but didn't find it. Thank you for your link.

I was surprise to see Thai team missing from Sepak Takraw event this morning. Not sure being asked not to enter because they are too dominant is even legitimate. I hate politic!

How do they maintain enough attention for this sport in tropical countries? It sounds interesting.

They don't. There's verrrrryyy little attention to figure skating here. Most South-East Asian nations have 1-2 rinks in the entire country, and most - if not all of them - are in malls. I think it's likely Philippines has the most love, and that's because Michael Christian Martinez was the first SEAsian figure skater to make it to the Winter Olys in 2014.

That's why it's BIG that they decided to include figure skating (along with speed skating & ice hockey) in a traditionally summer games-y regional event like SEA Games. It's gonna give much needed exposure to the sport.

Someone mentioned Jules Alpe to me the other day. I looked him up on YouTube and found this video. I thought about your post regarding Philippines' love for FS.
