Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

That's what he said in the interview. He's waiting for Brian's email for his schedule. This means he's staying in Japan, or else he wouldn't need to wait for Brian's email cuz he can actually see Brian everyday! I really really wish him to return to Toronto for proper training.

I just looked at the GPF schedule, men's practice is scheduled to start on Wed Dec 10, so I'm assuming that the guys will have to be traveling to Barcelona on the 9th. Since Yuzu attended the NHK gala and the closing dinner on Sun night, Nov 30th, he only has 8 days left until he's on a flight to Barcelona! It wouldn't make sense to get on a 15hr flight to Toronto first, deal with a 14 hr time difference, only to practice for less than a week, and spend another day traveling to Spain and get over another 6 hr time difference... He probably made the decision based on the amount of practice time that he desperately needs, although ITA that it would be nice to at least have his coach beside him instead of just emailing :disapp: How do you train FS Olympic gold medalist thru email?? Just insane.

Unfortunately I have no ideia of how japanese media treats the top athletes in the country, and I have no japanese language acknowledgement (I barely speak english ) I mentioned "attention" because of the way Yuzuru seems all over news and newspaper since Sochi, much more than other men top skaters in Japan, and I think this isn't very healthy; but this is just my general impression by watching media videos etc. Maybe some of the japanese posters can share some information about the media treatment of Yuzuru, if its generaly positive or negative. I'm sad about hearing the media treatment for Lipnitskaya, I'm not an avid fan of her but I very much appreaciate her skating and always watch her performances when I have time, along with other skaters. I think media can strike negative thoughts on the skaters and affect their confidence. However, Julia is a strong young lady, I don't think she will care too much for this hopefully.
Yes, I understood you completely and like many posters I share your view that it is unhealthy. I do think, though, that he has the right(the best possible, in fact) type of personality to deal with it(by genuinely enjoying his celebrity status for the most part - that's the impression I'm under). I'm not talking about the pressure coming from the titles, that's another thing.
Previously I was addressing the Japanese posters in this thread to comment on the matter if they can, not you specifically, I'm sorry if I misled you. :)

Hanyu defied crash warning, says coach

Olympic and world figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu ignored pleas not to compete after suffering head injuries in a sickening collision during warm-up for a competition in China, his coach told AFP. Hanyu suffered cranial bruising and needed stitches in his jaw as well as staples in his head ...

So apparently Borser's first choice for NHK was "Plan A" - do not compete.

I guess you're right on the travel time and time difference he has to face. Having said that, I think he's been coachless for a bit too long in this season if you ask me. :rolleye: In any case, the good thing is that he should have no problem booking private training time in Ice Rink Sendai. I have faith in him. I know he can do it. He has landed quads during practice. It's just that he needs confidence in landing them in competitions. :cheer2:

Tracy Wilson for ABC- Yuzuru Hanyu Report
Wilson- “in fact, the top three men after the short program joked that they were scared that Yuzuru Hanyu would knock them out of their place…

Jeremy Abott even said that he was a warrior, and he doesn’t expect to be on top of him after the free program.”

if anyone has any link for ncb or cbc videos it would be awesome

His EX program was sooo beautiful. -even better, in my opinion, than the one that he did for TV earlier this year. I also like his new gala costume.
Looking forward to GPF...like he said in his interview, even doing badly, though painful at the time, is something he can learn from. :cheer:

Exactly! That confidence comes from systematic training, which he's not getting right now. He has to find a way to change his mindset instead of relying on actual practices/training... and this makes me worried about his condition even in the GPF. If he still doesn't put out somewhat of a Yuzu-level performance (god forbid!), I'm worried that it'll hurt his confidence even more... But Yuzu is Yuzu, and I have full faith in him even though it'll be difficult!

Oh poor Yuzu said in this interview that he was afraid during the 6 mins warm up. He kept looking around even though there was nobody close to him. I guess both Han Yan and Yuzu share the same fear now. I hope they can overcome it soon.

PS: Yuzu also said that he cried after his FP. :drama:

He needs Brian more than ever to put him back into the right mindset.

Thanks for the link! Me during that video: awwwwwww poor baby~
What did he say about having a good unofficial practice (when they showed a fantastic 4T) and something about the next day?

Thanks to smasma for providing this link in a different forum:

Starting from 3:09.
Yuzuru borrowed a Japanese flag from a girl in the audience after the medal ceremony for Worlds 2014, where he and Machida won gold and silver. When they were about to leave, Yuzu told Machida to go return the flag since the girl was a Machida fan (she was holding a flag with Machida's name 樹). The video showed Yuzu pointing the girl out to him, in order for the fan to have some interactions with her favorite skater. Soooooooooo considerate and cute of him to do that!!

I'm also curious about if Brian's not with him, is anybody with him? The whole coaching team incl. Tracy and David Wilson will all be in Canada right? I hope at least Naname Abe-san can stay with him for a bit. Nice to see her there for the gala (which she choreographed).

He said he did good during the unofficial practice, so he thought he can do it. However, on the next day he started to collapse as if he has lost his senses. He worried if he would be fine or not. And then he did good on the following day again. So he thought he was mentally weak.

Oh shoot...I hadn't realized it was coming up quite that fast. So he's coachless again leading up to this competition...not the best for Yuzu right now I'm afraid. All the media hype and attention he receives in Japan is not conducive for getting mentally prepared, let alone being able to put the incident in China behind him.

He will have been away from his training base for nearly 2 months when he begins competition in Barcelona. Certainly not ideal.

I'm not  I really like the one on the 2nd costume and I really don't like the one on the 1st costume. But I'm also not particularly fond of that fluffy stuff around his wrists. On both costumes, but especially on the first one. Overall I like them both very much but I also like to complain about little things

Actually I am unsure about the collars because I should hate them on principle, but he looks so good in them:mad: Analyzing every little detail is totally our duty as fans (I think this is a good enough excuse). I'm trying to ignore that I might also have had tinfoil thoughts if it was another skater. But he totally looks like an ice prince in the new costume.

Brians face also struck me when I watched Firal, I don't know about the saddest thing, but I was actually startled to see it. Yuzu was so great to use the fan's gift bottle cover.

New interview translation, it turns out he only had 5 days on ice for NHK!!! Omg!

5 days O_O he says pretty much the same thing that Han Yan said about feeling hesitation/fear about surroundings, but it's good that he is certain it will go away with time. And as someone said in the Han Yan interview thread, the more he can get out there in competition warmup/practice the more he can recover mentally, so it's probably good he can go to GPF, no matter how he actually does. He never really had nerves of steal, more like nerves of fire.

Everything was so so beautiful in the EX  Thanks for the links. Akiko sounded so choked up, what was she saying?

Team Japan five-ever

Thanks again to ice-kingfisher for another postNHK interview translation this time showing Yuzuru's mindset as to the GPF next month:
NHK Trophy: Yuzuru Hanyu Interview 11/30 #2
He entered the venue with a smile and a “Yuzu Joke”: “This room is hot. (Matsuoka) Shuzo-san must be in the room.”
LOL. I'm really liking Matsuoka I have to say.

Thanks for the beautifully positive posts TuTU9678 and gallavich

(Sorry for cutting up everyone's posts; don't want to take up an entire page is all)

That's what I am afraid. More than ever I dislike JSF and Japanese media. Their attention is suffocating. Yuzuru needs to be away from the media and I hope he will stay under radar for weeks. He should be side by side with his coach now more than ever. Yet they let him to be coachless again. Training through email?? What kind of training is that? Yuzuru is still mentally troubled by Cozc and NHK. He is not a superman. After GPF he still has Nationals to go. Will they let him coachless after that as well? What's the point of having a coach then???

Yeah, I'm still in shock seeing Mura's 4T-4T :jaw: On the other hand, Yuzu has always been a good kid. Also have you seen this clip which talks about Yuzu saving Machida and a bug around 6:18??

I think lack of practice is definitely an issue. He said that he only had one run through of his FP (the morning of NHK FP) since China. I know some fans were worried that his is pushing his body too hard when we hear that he got on ice and started training in Japan without Brian 9 days before they made that official statement, but now it looks like he was taking his time, listening to his body.

However, if you go back to before the accident in CoC, his SP was not his usual form either. That was before the thigh injury and before the subsequent mental trauma. Whether it is true that he has other obligations to keep him away from being on ice, or just his mentality since becoming the champion and becoming the one everyone chases/targets instead of chasing someone, I don't know.

But in the interviews on dailymotion, I see him verbalizing his thoughts now and he is very candid and frank about his mental state right now. He is also keeping a very positive outlook on challenges ahead, saying that it is good that this competition is giving him lessons to think about and there in a way he is looking forward to overcoming these. He said that he does not dislike adversity, and that he will slowly climb the wall, even if it's just his fingertips hanging on the wall right now.

In fact I did see that clip before! Gotta love this kid more and more, cute, adorable, sweet, nice, and always inspiring and amazing!

TBH, I used to be super excited about the amount of Yuzu news clips that get uploaded on dailymotion, more Yuzu vids -> happier I am, right? But in the last couple of days I've been thinking, if there's too many vids out there for me to even watch them all, how much time did Yuzu have to spend doing interviews and dealing with the media? hmm...
