Johnny Weir's Ex Victor Voronov photo with ice-dancer Joti Polizoakis

:jaw:

Before we go any further, are we sure this is definitely a relationship, or just 2 guys messing about together and posting the photos on Instagram?

(By the way, the caption on the other photo Joti posted was funny! Who says Germans have no sense of humour?!)

Of course, if they are in a relationship, I do hope that that it turns out to be a happy one. But, I can't help having concerns. After all, we all know what happened when the honeymoon phase ended with Victor and Johnny.

Let's just hope that it was just incompatibility that time, and that this time it will be very different.

Is Victor Voronov the one on the right?? I forgot what he looked like.

Ugh...I thought Victor's 15 minutes were up already. I don't know anything about Joti, but I sure hope he has better taste than that.

:agree:

I also hope Johnny is not paying Victor's bills anymore either, does anyone know? In general, I think that men's right to ex-spousal support is the most ridiculous piece of legislation in the history of humankind (and that's saying something!).

Well, I had reason to look into Joti a couple of months ago, because I saw a photo of him being KISSED by a GIRL who I care a lot about. And, well, it's always a good idea to know a bit about your competition... :agree:

Little did I realise that he wasn't competition at all! :p

Sorry to disappoint, but bisexuals exist too, so maybe he was... ;)

That's a totally heterosexist comment.

It isn't a heterosexist comment at all. I think that men's right to ex-spousal support is the most ridiculous piece of legislation ever regardless of the man's sexual orientation.

This may be more for the political discussion board, but truly, why?

I'm not so sure I believe in *any* spousal support, male or female. But if the theory behind it (at least in the US) is that a spouse stopped working to take care of family (presumably) children at the detriment of his or her own career, and thus needs support before going out into the workforce. And a man, in a heterosexual marriage, could give up his career just as well as a woman. I'm not saying they do ( a whole 'nother story, these days), but they could.

So who is "Joti" anyway? If he is an ice dancer, who is his partner?

Drat! My attempt to be funny backfired! :slink:

Nah, I knew there was nothing going on in that photo I was talking about. Like, the girl in question has a long-term boyfriend, and it was obvious from the caption (a Happy Birthday message to Joti) that they are just extremely good friends.

Rather than showing something romantic, what these photos may show is that Joti is one of those guys that likes to show affection towards people in general. And, let's face it, there are too many guys that are afraid to do this, for fear that their actions may be interpreted as being romantic.

So, if this is the case, well done to him! :)

As a gay man who knows someone involved in PRECISELY that situation, I will simply stand by my original comment.

Kavita Lorenz. They only got together in May, and their first competition will be the Nebelhorn Trophy. As they haven't competed internationally yet, they don't have an ISU Bio.

However, they do have a Facebook page.

Kavita was previously partnered by Evgeni Kholoniuk. And before that, she was a Singles skater. She has never competed internationally, so does not have any ISU Bios. But, she does have a Stats On Ice bio.

This is Joti's first foray into Ice Dance. Up to this season, he was a Singles skater (ISU Bio).

"Joti" is a contraction of "Panagiotis" (Well, Greek names probably don't roll off German tongues very well!)

I think the idea might have had some merit if this were indeed the argument, but it’s not necessarily so. At any rate, not even having any children doesn’t stop people from claiming ex-spousal support, as in this case. I’ve heard that sometimes the argument is that the lesser-earning spouse has gotten used to a particular lifestyle, and so the other spouse owes him/her money to maintain such a lifestyle after the divorce – which doesn’t really make sense to me. But in any case, I think it’s one thing when a man (in any marriage) stays home to look after the children (whether biological or adopted) and thus indeed needs support before going out into the workforce, as you write, and a whole other story if he’s simply unemployed or makes less money than his ex-spouse, as in this case. So theoretically, it’s not about gender, but about what people do in a given marriage, but as you say, just because theoretically men could give up their careers to raise children doesn’t mean that they actually do (at least in any significant numbers), and I was thinking about real life.

IMO who you are or whom you know doesn't justify applying erronous labels to other people's statements.

...I thought they were trying to work it out?? Guess I'm really out of this loop...

I just went on Victors Instagram and he had also posted some pictures with Joti together + a comment: "thank u, i am very lucky. "
Seems very serious.
