Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Last time I got the flu, it ran its course in only 3 days but in those 3 days I lost 6 kilos and was exhausted for a week afterward. Imagine the muscle and weight loss for an athlete after the flu. He'd be in no condition to skate a program.

I sure wish he would do another competition before worlds. We have seen that being off competition for quite a long time usually does not do him good. Maybe because it is as if you would revert to your pre-season state? I don't know, just my guess. And if he goes later, 4CC is far more beneficial than gong to AWG for future purposes.
About NHK, I don't think it is such an issue. Dai did not win Nats at 2012, Yuzuru did, but he is still the invited skater and headliner at NHK in 2013. If he doesn't get NHK, I don't think it is such a big deal too, as long as he got convenient GPs for his assignment (what I meant convenient is not back-to-back or something).
I am guessing he caught the flu bug at GPF? Marin Honda and Kaori Sakamoto got the flu then (for Kaori she said it was fever but I am guessing she caught it too). I am just glad he decided to skip and not forcing himself to skate like he did at 2014 where he is bleeding from his stomach.

whatever. If he goes to some other GP events next year instead of NHK, I won't be too upset. In fact, I might perhaps see him live in CoR then?
This year's flu is a a killer - loads of people I know have been suffering from its complications for weeks. Let him just take time, get a good medical treatment and go back to practice when he's up to it.

Yes, he's in Japan with his family, so that's good. Hopefully he's recovered enough to celebrate the New Year with his family? That would be lovely
And as long as we don't have the WC result and the GP order next season, it doesn't make that much sense to guess his GPs. I just hope he doesn't end up in France or China
He'll be at 4CC though, I'm not worried about that one.

I've been dragging around a 'cold' for three solid weeks now, at least my GP calls it that but if it is, it's unlike any cold I've had before. Most people I know are sick from something and it bloody well lasts, for weeks, whether it's persistent coughing, or worse, in cases of flu. Blah.
Fingers crossed for CoR, no moping!
Yes, same. Didn't he even talk about that? I do think it's maybe even more a mental state for competitions that he has trouble holding, than physical but in this case probably both now. 4CC would actually be ideal, overall.
I am so happy he's prioritizing his health finally! This does sound like Marin's case, she also had a really high fever for days. If he still has a high fever, a good six days after it started, then it would really be insane to try and compete. But yes ...

Yuzu is not going to skate at Japan Nationals this year because of the flu
Woah...did not expect this.
Get well soon yuzu....really happy he's putting his health first. This does change a lot of things for next season though.Woke up to the news. I'm very sad he won't be competing at Nationals, but I'm glad he is really taking care of himself. The flu is very draining, so skating such a difficult program would have been an impossible task, specially if he still has symptoms. And He is getting on the Worlds and 4 CC team anyway due to the GPF.
I just hope he keeps that mentality going once he's recovered and doesn't overtrain himself to compensate like he did after the urachus remnant surgery. I guess there will be no ice shows on January for him either, and if he wants to go to 4 CC I assume he will be going back to Toronto earlier, once he is healthy and the holidays are over. That's relieving since he over trains when he is not with his coaches.
At least he's got time to catch up on schoolwork and play video games

Yuzuru will be on the world team and 4CC team if he wishes to take part.He will go to worlds. And if he wants to go to 4CC, they would send him too. I am saying this without any mean of disrespect, but I don't think they would pick Mura/Keiji/Ryuju over Yuzuru for the 2nd (or 3rd for me cause i considered GPF >4CC ) most important competition of the year? I don't think JSF is that stupid.

What a shame… but if he had to get sick during the season, now is probably the best time. And he’s already in Japan so he can spend the holiday season with his family, watch Kohaku, eat mochi, play games, etc. I don’t know if he’s kuyashii about losing the National title, but it’s not like he’s ever going to break Nobuo Sato’s record (10 consecutive years?) so not big deal to give it up now. He can get it back later. I hope he has a speedy recovery though and won’t lose too much weight. It'll probably be really weird for him to watch Nationals on TV from home.

Not really shocked at the news about his illness. I thought Yuzu looked -- as my grandmother used to say -- somewhat "peaked" in those GPF videos. Remember when he seemed to be almost passing out on Brian after he did that interview? That seemed a bit extreme to me. Poor baby. Sad about his illness but pleased he doesn't have to subject himself (or Brian) to another stressful competition so soon.

They don't confirm until 12/25 I believe? But, honestly, how can it be anything else for Worlds? I'm not sure about 4CC but hoping he could go to 4CC still. Fingers crossed!

Oh nooo my poor baby!
I was really sick too two weeks ago, i had to skip work and i couldn't get out of bed at all. Lots of people i know are still coughing and whatnot because of a nasty flu going around here.
Probably we will get a satellite for Planet Hanyu, his kuyashii level must be gigantic right now.
I am sad that he will not compete but at the same time i'm happy that he will be able to rest a bit, although his physical condition after that worries me a bit but surely he has something planned.
I hope he feels better soon my asthma always made the flu almost life threatening, i hope his isn't as bad as mine was!
