No huge surprise. Marin honda was sick at GPF and being on planes, buses etc., together, maybe more people got sick too but he has not recovered enough. Glad he keeps eye on the prize and cares for his body now that he has nothing to prove.

I guess Brian will have a surprise Christmas at home this year.

All the international travel is so hard on him. I hope he recovers quickly, regains his strength (and doesn't lose too much weight), and is back to training in Toronto soon. I'm happy for Brian that he doesn't have to spend Christmas Day on a long flight home!

I just read the news:sad21:Poor boy!He has to be really sick to not compete...I think it's the wiser decision. When I was skating and I had to be out several days because I was sick, later I couldn't do anything, even doing a single axel was really hard and I felt dizzy. So doing quads... I can't imagine that.
Now he has to take some rest and everything is gonna be right.

Geez, some of you really need to learn to chill and have a sense of humor. Jackie has just made a little JOKE! Yuzu is a skater he respects and likes very much! He's not the first skater to whom he did this to (after all there is the infamous PogoFall (TM), which unfortunately was true the past 2 seasons for Anna). Don't go and whine because he did this.

I don't think it's funny to joke about someone's illness, making hashtags, and not only in one tweet but over and over again. It's a "little joke" when you do it once, but not like three times.

Anybody realize that Jackie's not making fun of Yuzuru being ill, but of the fact that parts of the fandom can sometimes seriously overreact? .... just saying

And this makes it better? Why can't he be just silent instead of making fun of others? He is provoking such reactions, he is the one who created hashtags, not the fans.
Anyway, I'm sure there are other things to tweet about

You don't make jokes on people's misfortune. Making joke is not an excuse for virtually being mean or harsh; apparently many ppl cannot get the difference (just kidding:p

Actually there's a chance that Hanyu won't do NHK next season there's no need since the GPF is once again in Japan. Remember the 2013-2014 Olympic season Hanyu didn't compete at NHK he did SC and TEB. I think he'll definitely do 4CC especially since he's missing nationals. Plus it's an olympics test event. Now it has yet to be seen if the JSF will honor his request. We do know he'll go to worlds.

"A little joke"? "Sense of humor?" when someone is seriously ill and feels so responsible for his absence ? You totally lacks consideration as a human. Get out of here.

I believe he withdrew after getting JSF's approval and JSF already promised him the spots to 4CC and worlds. Otherwise, he would've chosen to compete to earn the spots even if he is sick. He is someone who competed after the collision in coc and right before his surgery in 2014 national, so he could qualify for GPF and earn the worlds spot after all.

JSF approves of his withdrawal because JSF actually doesn't want to force their top skaters to do Asian games. They only issued that public statement requiring their national champs to compete in Asian games because they are the host and the public expects their best skaters to be at Asian games. But JSF also knows none of their top skaters wants to compete at Asians Games if that means missing out on 4CC next year. (Asian Games has no value to any top skaters or to the skating community. Sorry, but this is true.) If Yuzuru competes in national and loses, and thus not compete in Asian games, or he competes in national and wins and chooses to not compete in Asian games, either way it makes Yuzuru look bad in the public. Letting Yuzuru withdraw is JSF's way to let Yuzuru skip Asian Games and compete in 4CC without making him look too bad in the public.

I think Hanyu did not do NHK at 2013 because Dai is still around though, so JSF prefer to invite him than Yuzu even though Yuzuru is the National champion. You have to take into account that during that period Dai was the Japan's ace and the GPF winner, though Yuzuru placed higher than him at worlds, 4cc and Nats.

....Or maybe since he has an extreme case of the flu + pharyngitis and cannot physically compete, they allowed him to withdraw. Otherwise he might literally collapse on the ice because the cold air will only irritate his condition.

NOOO!
Why did they gave JJ THE outfit :<
I want to scream

I thought that was supposed to be Yuzu. Because of the hairstyle which is very different from JJ's. After all, he Has appeared there before when they talked about the GPF. But he is doing the JJ style pose

It's possible, but I don't think it's likely because he has competed with far worse conditions when he had to qualify for some important competitions or when the competitions are really important.

Just found out :sad4:
Very, very, very glad that Yuzu WD'ed instead of forcing himself to compete.

Oh well, at least he IS there  another point to calm the "Yuuri=Yuzu" fire

I don't see why everything has to be a conspiracy, sometimes things are just clean cut and simple. :palmf: He's matured and knows he has to prioritize things, even if he doesn't like it.
